blarg1··on Every novel is boring until it isn't
The beginning of The Count of Monte Cristo was extremely boring, but gets so good once you get past it.
blarg1··on We found a division by zero bug in FFmpeg with a vibecoded fuzzer
> rather a checkbox than a brief CPU-intensive hashing session.

oh is that why my raspberry pi 5 can't browse websites anymore without freezing for a minute.

blarg1··on Why Target Common Lisp for Code Generation?
hopefully in 20 years we'll get another
blarg1··on Cyberscript
oh behave
blarg1··on How to stop Claude from saying load-bearing
I noticed I'd been doing the "Not X, but Y" thing. Kinda annoying to keep having to stop myself from doing it.
blarg1··on Solitaire simulator for finding the best strategy: Current record is 8.590%
my brother who never really had much interest in computer games, could always get the high score in any game I was playing eg pinball, racing

I'd spend ages to get a point above his score, and he'd come back and get an even higher one.

He did the same thing to my dad with solitaire, my dad plays it everyday and was proud of his high score. Then my brother who was just visiting, beat my dads highscore by a huge margin, and years later my dad is still annoyed he can't beat it.

blarg1··on IDF killed Gaza aid workers at point blank range in 2025 massacre: Report
> The British Army was very upset that ragtag riflemen in the American colonies kept running into the woods and shooting from behind cover instead of standing in a Proper Formation

didn't skirmishers always do that though?

blarg1··on Will Americans Get over Their Fear of Eating Animal Blood?
The idea of eating pudding made out of blood sounds gross to me, but I love dipping chips in the juices that pour out of a cooked steak.
blarg1··on Man accidentally gains control of 7k robot vacuums
i dont want any smegging toast!
blarg1··on How Lewis Carroll computed determinants (2023)
That explains Major Zero and his organisation Cipher in the metal gear series
blarg1··on Jonathan Blow has spent the past decade designing 1,400 puzzles
What did you think of the puzzles?

> women were a huge population of programmers

wasn't that there were a lot of women working as operators, but that job went away along with the punch cards.

blarg1··on Steam Machine
> You still cannot play a game C from my library while I play the game A from my own library.

I just tried it, and I could.

blarg1··on Yt-dlp: External JavaScript runtime now required for full YouTube support
I started after channels started removing their own videos because they either didn't think the videos were good enough or they had a mental break and deleted their channel. So good stuff just gone.
blarg1··on Pain Points of OCaml
A recent one I had was needing to include lifetimes to having to atleast specify the anon lifetime with the underscore. I forget what the actual circumstance was.
blarg1··on Over $70T of inherited wealth over next decade will widen inequality, economists
I wonder what would happen if your parents didn't leave the house to anyone, and you don't claim it but squat it.
blarg1··on Four-year wedding crasher mystery solved
I was going to my cousins wedding, and accidentally went in the wrong building hosting a different wedding party, and a bunch of people near the entrance looked like slightly off doppelgangers of my cousins and uncles. Like I walked in on an alternate reality.
blarg1··on Shallow water is dangerous too
Even without the board, it's just understanding the water, and knowing all the tricks for swimming in the surf.

Like you hear people become exhausted and drown, when it is just so easy to relax and float around, even with waves washing over you.

blarg1··on Show HN: Ten years of running every day, visualized
I started walking everyday 1-4km, and then switched to jogging 1-2.5 km everyday. It built up the muscles in my back so I no longer slouch, also fixed constipation issues I was having.
blarg1··on Is an Intel N100 or N150 a better value than a Raspberry Pi?
Currently with the latest pi os version, moonlight streaming's video hardware support doesn't work.

While it's the the fault of the moonlight devs (also you can compile it yourself to get it working), the binary package version has been broken for 2+ months now.

If I was using archlinux on x86 I wouldn't have problems like this.

blarg1··on The 90% Gravity Problem: Why We Tend to Quit Right Before the Finish Line
Solving problems even if it's not fun seems to motivate me, but once they're solved, I find it hard to finish the implementation.
blarg1··on Ovld – Efficient and featureful multiple dispatch for Python
Makes naming functions easier, eg multiply(mat3,vec3), multiply(mat3,mat3), etc

If the language is dynamically typed, you can use it for polymorphism.

blarg1··on How a hawk learned to use traffic signals to hunt more successfully
I once threw a tennis ball straight up, just as a bird happened to be flying past, it rolled right and dodged it by a cm.
blarg1··on Sleep apnea pill shows striking success in large clinical trial
> 3) Losing weight — YES, sleep apnea is worsened by excess weight

That solved it for me.

blarg1··on “There are people who can see and others who cannot even look”
same, here in Australia
blarg1··on Coffee for people who don't like coffee
Depends on the beans, if you can find some that don't have all those weird "flavour notes" nor tastes too concentrated (dark?), also have the amount of water so it isn't strong but also not diluted, then black can be really nice.

Coffee shops don't make them like that though, I used a vietnamese coffee maker and had to experiment on how much grinds to use and how much water to put through.

blarg1··on She was chatting with friends in a Lyft. Then someone texted her what they said
or use the cone of silence
blarg1··on Why young parents should focus on building trust with their kids
The skin might be dirty, so cutting a knife through it will slightly contaminate the insides
blarg1··on US and UK refuse to sign AI safety declaration at summit
computer says no
blarg1··on Firing programmers for AI is a mistake
It would be cool seeing non programmers using it to automate their tasks, maybe using a scratch like language.
