bluebit··on The workers have spoken: They're staying home
Cute that you think a person can just move house when they get a new job.
bluebit··on Pleasures by Aldous Huxley (1920)
So he's playing both sides, like a true philosopher. The simple fact is, work for survival sake is often mind-numbing and soul destroying. Finding work you have a passion for that creates a positive impact in the world is something everyone should strive for, even the wealthy trust fund kids that don't need to lift a finger.
bluebit··on It's OK to abandon your side-project
That's called "a good problem to have". Seek monetization, funding, scale - popularity is a difficult thing to achieve in a world of infinite choice.
bluebit··on Riffusion – Stable Diffusion fine-tuned to generate music
And we broke it.
bluebit··on Retro personal computer ads from the 1980s
Is it just me, or do all these photos have some odd sexual tension in them? Perhaps its societal conditioning, but I don't seem to have the same response from modern days ads (even though objectively modern ads are more sexualized).
bluebit··on FB feed is 98% suggested pages and barely any friends' posts
Can we all agree to call them FB friends, not friends.
bluebit··on FB feed is 98% suggested pages and barely any friends' posts
Instructions unclear, piled all available capital into the "metaverse" instead.
bluebit··on The next Google
And boom, we're back to the original problem Google had - how to initially seed authority sites.
bluebit··on A new wave of Linux applications
2022 is finally the year of Linux!
bluebit··on Feds arrest couple, seize $3.6B in hacked Bitcoin funds
There is zero link between a hardware wallet's private key and the original account that purchased the wallet.
bluebit··on How to start a successful freelance business as a software developer (2017)
Honestly it couldn't be easier if you have some degree of skill - register on Toptal.com and the jobs literally flow in ($70p/h + depending on skills) and you don't have to worry about contracts, marketing, management, invoices etc - you literally just do the work.
bluebit··on ImageNet contains naturally occurring Apple NeuralHash collisions
I honestly don't know what people are arguing here - in what universe would a non-CSAM image that has been incorrectly flagged ruin a person's life?
bluebit··on For programmers, remote working is becoming the norm
That's the last thing I'd direct my kids towards. To spend a third of your waking life digging in people's dirty mouths because of the stable income is how dreams die.
bluebit··on The Problem with Ethereum
I'm not sure we should treat the base money of the internet the same way we do tech startups - to "move fast and break things". I would like to know that my BTC is stored in a network backed by code that is secure with slow and steady progress.
bluebit··on Paint.wtf
Terrible app. If you paint solid blocks of color it ranks the picture extremely highly. Actual good art was thrown to the back of the pile.
bluebit··on My Experience at Apple
Original was deleted: https://web.archive.org/web/20210101181528/https://ex-apple-...
bluebit··on Ask HN: What's a side project you built to make money that hasn't?
You do realize that the bull run is back again? Might be a good idea to look into this again.
bluebit··on I no longer build software
Honest question, what is a great career pivot for someone that's been in development all their life? It seems that nothing pays as well as building software, unless you go into management which most developers would enjoy even less than digital plumbing.
bluebit··on I Just Hit $100k/year On GitHub Sponsors
At his current revenue growth rate, he will likely surpass $200k in the next 12 months with very little additional effort.
bluebit··on This isn't fun anymore (2017)
Seriously? Amazon has more filters and categories than I know what to do with, it would be very hard not to find exactly what you're looking for. How would you improve the experience?
bluebit··on Business Models
What's wrong with standard Chrome bookmarks?
bluebit··on Introducing a novel online market research platform - Fuseware Social Insights
It is essentially a self-administered online platform that helps companies and agencies perform market research in real-time. You can enter any keywords of your choice (for example, a brand name or product, or even a market such as “cape town” or “gothic shirts”), and our platform scours the web to bring back researched results about those keywords.
bluebit··on Holy Cow How I Got Over 2000 Hits on this Blog in a Few Hours
Excellent post. Especially like the pic on how to create quality blog content. Very readable.
