Know what's good for AI? everybody (people) having access to RAM and GPUs

Yeah I try not to make predictions but we really are watching some petty maniacal bullshit play out aren't we

You have to understand that little errors compound very quickly, vibecoding is super iterative.

> after the current memory crisis

It strikes me that if it were up to Sam Altman, Eliezer Yudkowsky, Bill Gates and Dario Amodei, this crisis would persist indefinitely. If it were up to them I wouldn't be surprised to see them destroy the GPUs just them to keep them from the plebs.

I picked those names not to be hyperbolic, but because of very specific things I've seen them say.

Too expensive at scale
blurbleblurble··on Sam Altman Thinks You're Wasting DRAM
Maybe what's really inefficient is sam a and other billionaires unilaterally deciding to capitalize and productize technologies imminently slated to get 100x more energy efficient, rather than distributing hardware in a way that would surely motivate and accelerate efficiency breakthroughs, even if more slowly.

People shouldn't own books or printers either
blurbleblurble··on Sam Altman Thinks You're Wasting DRAM
Sama flagged it

If only poverty were so simple
blurbleblurble··on Northflank Breached
This is much more akin to books than it is to nuclear weapons. In my view you're proposing to tightly control access to something akin to the next generation of books. Is knowledge power? Yes it is and it's much more dangerous concentrated than distributed.

I wonder how many breaches are going undetected/unreported
blurbleblurble··on Northflank Breached
You should assume any of those are possible. And by that I mean: it's not physically possible to "control the technology" without instituting total surveillance and even that's just false security.

Defense is the only way.

You don't realize it, I imagine, but you're essentially advocating for the contemporary equivalent of requiring a license to print text on paper and distribute it.

blurbleblurble··on Breaking the open web won't stop the bad bots
The legislators are way out of their depth and oligarchs are preying on them at this point.
blurbleblurble··on Northflank Breached
Sorry but how in the world would that help with anything? You can't control an adversary, that's not how adversaries work. So that makes what you said a literal cop out.
blurbleblurble··on Herdr has released native app
It's such a good experience. Try it out, later we fork if they pull anything funny.
blurbleblurble··on Qwenputer: A functioning, deterministic RISC-V CPU inside Qwen3.5
This is cool but it'd be way more useful if they had made a GPU, seeing as how expensive those have gotten
blurbleblurble··on The EPA Is Quietly Killing Its Web Archive
This is so disingenuous. We all know where the money goes.
blurbleblurble··on Neural chip decodes interactions between brain regions
> Our work is based on the growing body of research suggesting that psychiatric disorders arise more from disruptions in communication between brain regions than from dysfunction of any single region

Reductionism falls apart once again and I love it every time. This is very exciting to hear.

blurbleblurble··on The foolishness of "natural language programming" (1978)
That's exactly what I mean, compilers are more important than ever
blurbleblurble··on The foolishness of "natural language programming" (1978)
I think you're missing my point which is more or less that compilers are these original harness and will continue to anchor human-computer interaction as they have always done.
blurbleblurble··on The foolishness of "natural language programming" (1978)
The LLMs don't replace compilers, they challenge the next generation of compilers. And they don't replace software engineers, they shift them into yet another metasystem.
blurbleblurble··on Gemini 4 Argon
I tried it out and ran out of weekly usage on a $200 plan within a day. Not impressed.
blurbleblurble··on Do dentists know what they're doing?
I had a great dentist once who gave me an x-ray and said "look, you've got a small cavity but it's really not worth filling, just keep it from getting infected". And I have.

They're buying out RAM and consumer GPUs too.
blurbleblurble··on Banks are now trying to offload the AI data center debt they just underwrote
You sound exactly like the people who didn't understand personal computers because mainframes existed.
blurbleblurble··on Banks are now trying to offload the AI data center debt they just underwrote
They should offload the overprovisioned, hyper concentrated GPUs back to the people
