boldlybold··on Omnii-1: a leap toward general biological intelligence
This model was used to generate the first AI-designed phage therapy used in a human patient: https://www.nytimes.com/2026/10/20/science/ai-virus-bacteria...
boldlybold··on I turned my unused Kindle into a photo frame with GPT-6 Astra
Hell yeah. What instrument?
boldlybold··on VSCode's SSH Agent Is Bananas (2025)
I have looked for mosh support for a while and not found anything. It would drastically improve the connection experience in VSCode. My terminals never disconnect anymore, but the Code popups about your sessions needing to be restarted has drastically reduced my usage.
boldlybold··on Border agents can search cellphones without a warrant or reasonable suspicion
They let you in and keep your property. I've never had an issue at a border, but I still keep my devices encrypted and powered off when crossing.
boldlybold··on The August 17 outage
It used to be, and buying a few servers was a cheap way to get off the cloud (if you can manage them efficiently). But with RAM and other costs these days... I've had to rethink it a lot.
boldlybold··on Ask HN: GitHub employees what's going on? Why?
It certainly looks at the commit history more than I ever have. I find it quite cool when it points out interesting hints from the history.
boldlybold··on Every new car sold in the European Union must include a driver monitoring camera
Same place (and only place) I've driven one. Easy stick shift, a bit underpowered for the more mountainous highways, but it was a good ride.
boldlybold··on GrapheneOS has been ported to Android 17
Ebay? A friend to ship it? I agree on the de-google part but putting graphene on a used pixel is aligned!
boldlybold··on Ask HN: Is Claude Opus 4.8 broken?
Ended up here with the same problem, 200k output tokens burned on these errors after one prompt!
boldlybold··on We're testing new ad formats in Search and expanding our Direct Offers pilot
Is this any different than current search ads (as far as people ignoring them)? I think this is a lot better for Google. It's always at the top of the page, harder to block with an adblocker, possibly more trusted (we'll see...)
boldlybold··on The main thing about P2P meth is that there's so much of it (2021)
That's all correct, and nobody seems to care. Nobody is ever going to improve the system, and us law abiding citizens are left with the consequences.
boldlybold··on Removing the modem and GPS from my 2024 RAV4 hybrid
I've been saying this for years! I agree.
boldlybold··on eBay Rejects GameStop's $56B Takeover as Not Credible
I frequently buy project car stuff on Ebay. You can find OE stuff with the part numbers scratched off that must have "fallen off the assembly line" pretty easily. Easily a few items per month between that and computer parts!
boldlybold··on Higher usage limits for Claude and a compute deal with SpaceX
Illegal is a strong term here. While the wiki link you included indicates there might be some permitting nuances, I've seen nothing claiming the power is "illegal."
boldlybold··on How Monero’s proof of work works
How can you have proof of work without consuming large amounts of power?
boldlybold··on Show HN: GeneGuessr – a daily biology web puzzle
Great work! I really like the interface here, I think you put a lot of taste into the way this all came together. It's quite hard (appropriately so!) I would love to see a experienced structural biologist go at this.
boldlybold··on A day at Hetzner Online in the Falkenstein data center
Video didn't display for me even after turning off content blockers, here's the url: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gIjdKIMQh4s
boldlybold··on Nearly all UK drivers say headlights are too bright
I knew before clicking this was going to be a Saab, I miss mine!
boldlybold··on GPT-5.1: A smarter, more conversational ChatGPT
Just set it to the "Efficient" tone, let's hope there's less pedantic encouragement of the projects I'm tackling, and less emoji usage.
boldlybold··on Australia has so much solar that it's offering everyone free electricity
If you're already down there, set up some geothermal!
boldlybold··on How I bypassed Amazon's Kindle web DRM
This is a beautiful solution to a tedious problem that shouldn't exist in the first place! Great work.
boldlybold··on People regret buying Amazon smart displays after being bombarded with ads
You are an absolute legend, nice work!
boldlybold··on How I bypassed Amazon's Kindle web DRM
Comics need a full "image" for the page, so this is unlikely to work. Can you inspect the requests and see what you get?

Or to the author: what happens to images in the ebook?

boldlybold··on People regret buying Amazon smart displays after being bombarded with ads
"Good" TVs are so cheap these days, that premium wouldn't be acceptable in my mind. The fix the other posters mention about banning it from the internet and just using HDMI works well enough for me.
boldlybold··on People regret buying Amazon smart displays after being bombarded with ads
Buy the ebook, then download a beautiful DRM-free and guilt-free version from Anna's Archive? win-win.
boldlybold··on People regret buying Amazon smart displays after being bombarded with ads
Damn, that's an impressive obfuscation and debugging. If you get around to releasing it I would be interested.
boldlybold··on Founder sentenced to seven years in prison for fraudulent sale to JPMorgan
Between this and the other compression scams mentioned in the thread, is there any connection to the show Silicon Valley? I haven’t heard of this genre of scam before but it sounds a lot like the premise of pied piper!
boldlybold··on I built Foyer: a Rust hybrid cache that slashes S3 latency
Same. Hit escape shortly after the page loads to stop loading whatever modal is likely blocking scroll. I don't see the modal so it's likely blocked by ublock, but still stops scroll.
boldlybold··on ChatGPT Pulse
I agree - the ability to lower activation energy in a field you're interested in, but not yet an expert, feels like having superpowers.
boldlybold··on Valve confirms credit card companies pressured it to delist certain adult games
We need to change this perception. Setting up a hot wallet on a phone only takes a few minutes and is perfect for holding a small amount of crypto.

Projects like monero (https://www.getmonero.org/) ensure privacy and fungibility of the crypto you hold.

It should still be easier, but let's not pretend this is technology only available to those with deep tech experience.
