bwag··on Happy New Year 2025
Same. I've been a lurker since 2008. Been hitting this site practically every day since. I've learned so much in the process. Thanks for everything hn, happy new year!
bwag··on 13ft – A site similar to 12ft.io but self-hosted
With iOS 17.4 they allow other rendering engines for users in the EU.

bwag··on Show HN: Tall Sandwiches
No! It wasn't my intention to get the puppy sandwich removed. Isn't this the whole point of art? To invoke an emotional reaction? I vote to bring back the puppy sandwich, and add in a kitten sandwich for balance ;)
bwag··on Show HN: Tall Sandwiches
The random dismembered paw in the puppy sandwich makes me sad.
bwag··on Moonwalkers: Shoes that make you walk faster (pre-order)
I was wondering how they could traverse rough terrain like gravel. That video explains how the overlapping wheels makes that possible. Why not go with a "tank tread" type design? Maybe in a future hiking version.
bwag··on Before buying a NYT subscription, here's what it'll take to cancel it
This. I've been using privacy.com for all my online subscriptions. I just cancel the card I used to sign up and call it a day.
bwag··on Show HN: Browsh – A modern, text-based browser
Ah, that makes sense. Cool project!

> Its main purpose is to significantly reduce bandwidth and thus both increase browsing speeds and decrease bandwidth costs.

How does it reduce bandwidth exactly? It still has to grab all the html/css/js for the site being rendered.

bwag··on #deletefacebook
Dude. Just delete it already. Once it's gone you'll quickly realize how much it doesn't even matter.
bwag··on Mailgun Security Incident and Important Customer Information
To be fair, Mailgun is in the practice of sending email. It just happens to be that email is one of the main conduits of spam.
bwag··on CSS and JS code coverage in Chrome DevTools
I meant, of the lines that are green, what line in what html file is causing that line to be green.
bwag··on CSS and JS code coverage in Chrome DevTools
Also a "git blame" type view that shows which files use which lines of css/js.
bwag··on Smartwatches Are Dying Because They Are Worthless
I can't agree more. I use mine for the same reasons. I'm hoping the remaining pebbles will drop in price so I can buy them all up.
bwag··on elgooG
They really should have purchased the tld elgoog just for this prank.
bwag··on Your wifi shows me where you live, work and travel
Does Starbucks use WPA2? The last one I was at was open, I just had to click through a terms of service page.
bwag··on Pints in the sun
I guess this is a UK thing? I typically look for shaded beer gardens here in the Midwestern United States.

Edit: Plus, direct sunlight can skunk a hoppy beer in minutes.

bwag··on How to Drink All Night Without Getting Drunk
I go to many craft beer festivals just to "taste" new beers. My main goal when attending beer festivals isn't to get drunk, but to taste a diverse list of new beers. It would be a big win for me if I could sample more and get drunk less.
bwag··on Dear Newsweek: RTFM
Because anyone could do that and send the photo to Dorian who then tweets it as Satoshi.
bwag··on 5 years C-pound experience (2004)
I've always preferred C-octothorp.
bwag··on Lego Finds Discontinued Set For Boy Who Saved Up For 2 Years
Kudos to Lego. I think the majority of us agree their product is full of awesome, and to see them providing this level of customer service is awe-inspiring.

That said, I think we're missing the crux of the story here. These parents let their child save every penny for two years. There's something to be said for teaching your children to save money for something they want, but to let it go on for two years seems overly cruel. As a parent, you need to make sure they get enough money in birthday cards, allowance, etc. to cover the total in a reasonable amount of time.

bwag··on Still running strong after 1,532 days without a code change.
Apparently he showers with Siri. So naughty.
bwag··on The phone with a projector
Am I the only one that thinks their use case of leaving the phone in your child's room projecting a unicorn on the ceiling to help them sleep is just pure nonsense?

bwag··on In 1951 there was a children's U-238 Atomic Energy Lab playset for $50
"...waiting to be shipped to rosy-cheeked little scientists?"

Or whatever address those rosy-cheeked little scientists decided to put on the form. I remember sending ants to unsuspecting neighbors using the refill from that came with my ant farm.

bwag··on Undeletable Cookies
Interesting. Wikipedia references two add-ons written back in 2007 for this purpose. No idea if they still work on more recent versions of FF.

bwag··on Hacker Monthly #2 is out
I wonder if its just coincidence that the cursor is on column 42 of the first line in the image?
bwag··on Show HN: Mocksup, my mockup prototyping & review webapp
Funny how "Not written in Flash" has become a feature. http://mocksup.com/compare
bwag··on Study: Frequent password changes are useless
I've always thought the reason behind changing your password frequently was to thwart brute force attacks? Is that not the case?
bwag··on Gizmodo paid $10,000 for "lost" iPhone 4G
I keep waiting for this headline: "Gizmodo Digs Deeper: Reveals iPhone Prototype to Actually be a Nexus Two Prototype"
bwag··on Fav4.org Is a Dead Simple but Very Attractive Start Page
"Third, its on the web. Safari, firefox and chrome start pages are in your local browser, but we dont all use the same machine everyday do we? I switch between 2 or 3 as I'm at work, then at home or at a friends."

Except that it uses cookies. So, no.
