ccnafr··on YouTube “Let's Play”s are preserving video game history
Depends on the "Let's Play" quality. Most I've seen are just garbage. Only a handful of channels are actually playing these games without curse words or social commentary
ccnafr··on New secret-spilling flaw affects almost every Intel chip since 2011
DUPLICATE MODS

DUPLICATE

For every major story, there's always a TechCruch blogspam at the top of the index, sometimes with less votes than the actual sources they're duplicating.

Just add "sponsored" in front of it and get it over with.

ccnafr··on WhatsApp voice calls were used to inject spyware on phones
I like it how Facebook doesn't mention anything in the WhatsApp changelog about this.
ccnafr··on Fxmsp Chat Logs Reveal Hacked Antivirus Vendors
So basically every AV vendor denied getting hacked
ccnafr··on Google launches new “portal” HTML element
No, you're right. Portal is effectively iframe without all the security protections.
ccnafr··on A hacker is wiping Git repositories and asking for a ransom
Search results don't include private repos.

Wonder how many of those got hit.

Lots of security people will be up tonight reviewing logs.

ccnafr··on Game of Thrones S8E3 Is a Major Disappointment
You can say that again
ccnafr··on Hacker Finds He Can Remotely Kill Car Engines After Breaking into GPS Tracking

Hope the guy doesn't get an Upwork account now. He'll be really screwed then.

The article doesn't say, but is the teen black?
ccnafr··on Bug in French government’s WhatsApp replacement let anyone join Élysée chats
I see ArsTechnica did everything under its power not to link to the researcher's report. You can't hide blog spam from me, ArsTechnica editors!!!

ccnafr··on EU votes to create gigantic biometrics database
The article links to a design document that clearly states that this is a new system. Modern journalism still way better than some random guy commenting on HN. qed
ccnafr··on Security researcher MalwareTech pleads guilty
Yeah. As a minor. Isn't everyone given a pass for crimes committed at that age? Why the indictment then?
ccnafr··on Security researcher MalwareTech pleads guilty
All of this smells like a prosecutor wanting a big case hit so he can advance his career.

All cyber-security firms said they never got hits for Kronos or UPAS-Kit.

The first Kronos detections came after his arrest. Go figure that! How do you charge someone for developing malware that never infected anyone?

ccnafr··on Malware researcher Marcus Hutchins, known as ’MalwareTech’, pleads guilty
Duplicate: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=19702872
ccnafr··on Security researcher MalwareTech pleads guilty
I have a feeling this guilty plea is not actually a "guilty" plea, and more of "let's get it over with."

The guy has always called the charges "bullshit" and was asking for donations to keep up with legal costs.

This isn't how a legal system is supposed to work. You don't take a guilty plea because you run out of money.

ccnafr··on Report deems Russia a pioneer in GPS spoofing attacks
To be fair, the report is authored by an US entity. I'm sure if they could have studied US operations without losing their funding they would have found similar deployments by US forces, albeit, I think not as widespread. The US has always seemed to have better tech, and GPS spoofing is cheap, from what the article states, which makes it ideal for the cash-bootstrapped Russian military.
ccnafr··on Contract Cheating: Colleges Crack Down on Ghostwritten Essays
I'm actually making a good living from writing other people's works, btw.
ccnafr··on Mysterious safety-tampering malware infects a second site
Here's the direct link to the report: https://www.fireeye.com/blog/threat-research/2019/04/triton-...

Article spends too much time FUDing "plant explosions" for my taste

ccnafr··on Hacker from Russian crime group jailed for global blackmail conspiracy
You don't get to keep criminal proceeds unless you're a politician these days.
ccnafr··on Hacker from Russian crime group jailed for global blackmail conspiracy
This is clickbait... yes, clickbait on BBC

The guy was a ransomware distributor who used malvertising campaigns to hijack traffic from all sort of sites, not just porn sites.

Geeh, I wonder why the Chinese hacked one of the biggest companies in the world.

Maybe for ... let's take a guess... trade secrets and IP?

Wouldn't mind that legislation heading over to Europe, tbh

ccnafr··on What Ruined Hanna-Barbera? [video]
tl;dw: they got lazy at the end of the 70s and started copying their own hits over and over, putting out the same type of shows. Toy companies got involved and created their own toons, with a superior quality, and they were done after that. Cable also hit, and they couldn't keep up with the demand, so also lost additional market share.
