chadp··on Go East, Young Man
And teaching English is not a dead end job?
chadp··on Living in China, let me tell you what life is like with restricted internet
You are absolutely correct, SOPA is totally different in concept for the blocking of sites.

But there are lots of sites and companies that are not alive because the government doesn't allow it. Want to start a video site? sorry, that is regulated. anything to do with online payments? need a license. social network or any communication website. Yup, need a license.

As a foreigner here in China a blocked or crippled internet is zero effect or relevance on daily life. We just VPN out to the "real" Internet daily.

But if SOPA is approved, there may be no more real internet. Not because facebook or big sites will be blocked however. It will be because the government will have the ability to cut innovation and entrepreneurship off by seizing sites at will.

China doesn't allow social networking sites. What will America and Co. not like and allow?

chadp··on Linode VPS Review
I thought the exact same thing. blah
chadp··on A Note to Non-Technical Founders
Or just write the spec, make the wireframes and hire someone to build it for you.
chadp··on Ask HN: How do you get over the fear of launching?
You are thinking too much.

Paralysis by analysis. Stop thinking about it and just do it. Launch, then find out what users say about your product.

chadp··on Stop Telling Women To Do Startups
Here is someone talking sense. Who cares whether people starting startups are black, yellow, purple, men or women.

There doesn't need to be any equality. Everyone is already equal and can decide to start a startup whenever they wish.

chadp··on If We Don't Let Our Children Play, Who Will Be the Next Steve Jobs?
This article is right on the money and it is up to each parent to let their kids get away from TV and screens and get outside and be kids.
chadp··on ADHD guidelines add Ritalin as option for 4-year-olds
Nice. A reason for parents to have an excuse to tranquilize their kids.

Let the kids go outside and play, spend time with them. They don't need these drugs.

We will soon have generations of zombies if this craziness is allowed to continue.

chadp··on The ultimate startup lesson: knowing what matters
That was a terribly written article.
chadp··on Stop asking me for my phone number
Just put a fake phone number with the right number of numbers.
chadp··on Why The 99% Should Protest Against Y Combinator
Who are you to speak on the behalf of the MAJORITY of hackers, developers and libertarians?
chadp··on Why The 99% Should Protest Against Y Combinator
PG's response is 100% correct. It is the OP moral or religious viewpoint and that is all. One view point.

Find another way to lobby against causes you believe in, don't expect random businesses to boycott a cause just because you believe in it. Others may not.

chadp··on U.S. Government Compels Google To Hand Over Wikileaks Volunteer's Gmail Data
A good (but already known) reason to leave gmail.
chadp··on As Criminal Laws Proliferate, More Are Ensnared
Welcome to the USA, land of the free...
chadp··on Ruxum: Wall Street-Level Security Comes to Bitcoin
That is one thing, some other here https://x.ruxum.com/security
chadp··on Just work hard
I disagree. Dream and want it "so bad you can taste it". Then work hard to achieve it.
chadp··on The World Says China Will Overtake America
can not read this unless you subscribe to wsj.
chadp··on A lesson on the importance of encouraging your children with their projects
This is the best story on HN I have ever read.
chadp··on Give Canada’s visiting brains a boost - Startup Visa Canada
This would be great for canada but then what after they come to canada. Will they tell the budding entrepreneurs of the 50%+ personal income tax that they will have to pay as Canadians?
chadp··on In the US, people will need to pay $6400 per year for health insurance
I would be very happy if I could pay $6400 / year for health insurance for the family.

You don't need a "technical co-founder". Just hire a technical team.

I don't get all these "looking for a co-founder" posts.

chadp··on Berlins new techno beat. why international tech startups should move to berlin.
glaring omissions from the article what are the personal and corp tax rates? (high!) and how easy is it to hire and fire employees (hard I hear).

No one doubts the nightlife and leafy suburbs of germany are nice

chadp··on Please stop asking how to find a technical co-founder.
This has to be the best post on HN for the full year 2011. Just do it. Start something. Scramble and find a way. Hire offshore and just get it done.
chadp··on The healthy future of the web industry maybe short-lived
Seek and source talent globally. Look outside your own borders. Just because the USA or UK is short of web skills, it doesn't mean the sky is falling down for the whole industry. China, India, Russia, E. Europe, SE Asia are some places to start looking. (it is getting harder in those places too but MUCH MUCH easier than the "western" countries.)
chadp··on The Seven Deadly Sins of CEO's
That is a terrible article.
chadp··on Bitcoin Laws Imminent
It is a pure speculation that any law is imminent. There is still no source that says the US courts are "doing more research". Lastly, "we all know" is his own opinion, not the opinion of any group, let alone the bitcoin forum.
chadp··on Bitcoin Laws Imminent
Bunk article.

- no sources - since when do the courts make legislation? - courts are doing research and the courts are "laws from the top"? - search for bitcoin on the uscourts.gov website brings up zilch.

Totally made up and false article if you ask me.

You should be ashamed of yourself and arrested.
chadp··on Is bitcoin backed?
Greece and other sovereign nations "contractually" borrowed money from others yet they may still default.

Where should this universal contract be drafted and who should be responsible to honor and uphold it?

I think that is the point of Bitcoin. There is not one set of legal rules that can control it. It doesn't need contracts, only possession.

If you own them, you can give them to others, trade, or buy things. If not, then you can't. Simple.

Fiat currencies are backed by their governing nation's word. That is it. Like in the case of Greece and others, that word can be easily broken.

chadp··on Deciding not to use Bitcoin - a casino startup's perspective
The 1000 limit is for those that have not provided their identification to the exchange. If you provide your id, you can raise the limits substantially. Understandable, any company that transfers large amounts of money have to abide by KYC laws (know your customer).
