Result? inner peace. It is so calm here, and everything is so familiar and fast.
And the MBP hardware seems to be getting shittier too :/ have trackpad issues on both my latest personal and work M4 MBPs.
I would hope React buttons work when people click on them though.
Thank you @dang, and everyone else!
Of course they still do it, of course they will use this golden opportunity to improve what they think of as "health" of the organization.
Yes, they probably overhired during the pandemic, but people laid off will not necessarily be the same ones.
* How to Solve it by Polya https://www.amazon.com/How-Solve-Mathematical-Princeton-Scie... and How to Prove it by Velleman https://www.amazon.com/How-Prove-Structured-Approach-2nd/dp/... helped strengthen that understanding.
* This year I am trying to master https://www.amazon.com/Methods-Mathematics-Calculus-Probabil... which focuses on how to "connect the dots".
* I am using Geometry and the Imagination by Hilbert https://www.amazon.com/Geometry-Imagination-AMS-Chelsea-Publ... as an attempt to "immerse" myself in Geometry. I just love this book.
xargs -P maxprocs
Parallel mode: run at most maxprocs invocations of utility at once. If maxprocs is set to 0, xargs will run as many processes as possible.
Does it add work compared to setting up a VM with Docker and Watchtower? - for sure..
But does it add work compared to setting up something that gives you all the same benefits of k8s without using k8s? - imho definitely not.
But as a counterpoint to the rest, web technologies have been free to achieve said parity on the desktop for a long time now. Have they? Do they provide _better_ experience for the user? or do they neglect the user whenever they can in return for _faster_ and _easier_ cross-platform development and ability to leverage existing web developers?
Why is that so shocking? The moment when users stop caring about how stuff works you get the very situation the article is complaining about.
>The web offers a native experience in most cases, sometimes even better. Besides, giving PWAs more abilities doesn't remove native apps.
Why are you telling me what my experience is like?
Do I think that you should have a fair chance at experiencing apps in your preferred way? Yes.
Do I think that your way is actually better based on the points made in this article? No.
That is speculation on user behalf, isn't it? I am a user and I care.
> ..than having to learn all of the platform specific stuff..
It is a rational argument. However, Chrome is a platform too. More and more of the web only works (well) in Chrome. More and more of the web is what Chrome says it is.
I am providing critique here, the burden of proof is on whoever wrote the bold claim that application development is web development (speculation) and it is a better way of development (speculation).
> I am glad for you that you don't need them. But we'd like to at least have the choice.
I would not have a gripe with the article if it were the only thing it alluded to.
Since when does application development equal web application development? this is a narrow-minded view.
> stalled innovation for the past 10 years and prevented Web Apps from taking off on mobile.
I may be in the minority but, as a user, web apps on mobile is the last thing I need. Also, as a developer web apps as a preferred way of developing for mobile is the last things I need.
> Web Apps if allowed can offer equivalent functionality with greater privacy and security for demanding use-cases.
This really needs some sources. To me, it reads like something akin to a snake oil ad piece right now.
In my personal experience a good mentor will never patronize but will still manage to convey their, usually higher, expectations for kind and quality of your work.
The best mentors I've had were also extremely good at receiving and processing feedback themselves because they honestly loved learning and wanted to be better as much as I did.
I'd had number of mentors, and myself almost a decade of experience teaching technical classes and 1:1 private lessons before I got into mentoring other SDEs at work and was amazed by how much I learned even just from first few relationships.
Coaching and mentoring really are so different.
I have definitely seen organizations where either the culture or the "climate" all but prevented effective mentor / mentee relationships no matter the effort. Really don't miss working at those places, probably the most burned out I had ever been in my career.
They tried to get that stuff working with existing IDEs multiple times [0][1][2][3], but they are all broken in their unique ways.
Whenever I see them announce something new in the remote development space I always jump in right away and try it out, discover it is broken too, and then go back to using VS Code remote dev features.
For local dev I still use JB stuff, but it is simply too broken and awkward for remote.
