chrisseldo··on The demise and potential revival of the American chestnut
The novel "The Overstory" instilled a greater appreciation for trees, in general, but in particular for the American Chestnut.
chrisseldo··on Optimal Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwiches
What about halved banana slices? The last image shows some prime real estate for a half of a slice!
chrisseldo··on Writing, Briefly (2005)
A great book that helped me was "On Writing" by Stephen King.

chrisseldo··on How Popular Is “Sign in with Apple”?
Sign in w/ Apple has been a great user experience. Something that always stuck in the back of my head when downloading and signing up for a new app was the stupid email confirmation.
chrisseldo··on The Intoxicating History of Gin
“Martinis are the only American invention as perfect as a sonnet.”

-H. L. Mencken

chrisseldo··on The physical Apple Card is a case of form over function
Has anyone else just ignored the recommendations from Apple in how to store the card?

I keep it in my wallet like any other card and haven't noticed any scrapes/marks on the card or issues swiping.

chrisseldo··on Facebook says new bug allowed apps access to private photos of up to 6.8M users
Facebook's release: https://developers.facebook.com/blog/post/2018/12/14/notifyi...
chrisseldo··on Price Before Product
Dear firstround.com,

Please consider using HTTPS.

chrisseldo··on Google is discontinuing Inbox
> The ios gmail app does not have any good answer to this, though. You have to select each email one by one and then delete/archive.

This is what kills me about the iOS GMail app compared to Inbox. This feature needs to be ported to GMail before Inbox is gone.

chrisseldo··on MacBook Pro with faster performance and new features for pros
I thought this was a top post because they were removing the touch bar :(
chrisseldo··on Facebook abandons Aquila, its internet drone
...don't catch you slippin' now
chrisseldo··on Introducing Git protocol version 2
>"Linus Torvalds said in 2012 that one of his own biggest successes was recognizing how good a developer Hamano was on Git, and trusting him to maintain it."
chrisseldo··on Subscription Hell
This is cousin to what's happening to a large portion of the video game industry: loot crates & pay-to-win.
chrisseldo··on YouTube Is Removing Some Nootropics Channels
It's also a pretty decent album released in 2012 by Lower Dens.
chrisseldo··on Show HN: SpotifyTelevision – easily watch music videos for Spotify playlists
Can I see how it works before signing in?
chrisseldo··on Detecting integer constant expressions in macros
I agree with you - I think I would take it as a compliment as well. Also, I take back my original post on what the best comment is in this post. This is better:

"this will break the minds of everybody who ever sees that expression"

chrisseldo··on Detecting integer constant expressions in macros
"I'm in awe of your truly marvelously disgusting hack. That is truly a work of art."

Ha. How should one take such a comment?

chrisseldo··on Will MySpace ever lose its monopoly? (2007)
Perhaps I should rephrase to what I meant to imply: I find it funny that people think Facebook is going away / will fade into irrelevancy.
chrisseldo··on Will MySpace ever lose its monopoly? (2007)
I hope the posting of this article isn't some insinuation of FB's fate.
chrisseldo··on Facebook spamming users via their 2FA phone numbers
I find it dissuading to read an article when the actual article itself is confined to <1/2 of the browser screen.
chrisseldo··on HomePods are staining wooden tables with a white ring
How was this device never placed on a wooden surface before distribution? Oy vey.
chrisseldo··on John Perry Barlow has died
Nothing to tell now / let the words be yours / I am done with mine.

A champion of freedom. RIP.

chrisseldo··on Show HN: An extension to turn your LinkedIn into a resume
>So you're saving and selling my information, then?

>No. The information on your LinkedIn profile never leaves LinkedIn - except for your email address, which I am saving to use with some features in the future. I won't sell it, and I won't annoy you with pointless emails.

I think it's important to state this on the front page, particularly by the "No strings attached" section. Many would consider collecting their email an "attached string".

Otherwise, I think this is great -- looking forward to more updates!

chrisseldo··on James Dolan, co-creator of SecureDrop, has died
Why is the date of the post "Tomorrow"?
chrisseldo··on Show HN: A New, Clean Geolocation API
What about adding zipcode?
chrisseldo··on Rabbit hole leads to 700-year-old Knights Templar cave
Is anyone going to say it? "That rabbit's dynamite!"
chrisseldo··on Google's CryptoJS CDN down?
Laziness, I guess. Duly noted.
chrisseldo··on Google's CryptoJS CDN down?
Thanks for the heads up -- didn't realize.
chrisseldo··on A Quick Look at PostgreSQL Source Code
Loved this -- more please :)
