collaborative··on Show HN: Oblivus GPU Cloud – Affordable and scalable GPU servers from $0.29/hr
That page is not mobile friendly FYI :-)
collaborative··on Server-sent events
Not really related, but this is GAE's missing feature IMO
collaborative··on Bard API
I mean, this "API" is free whereas an official API could be charged

I guess it's only fair that we may scrape Bard just like Bard scrapes us? I think it's called "disruption" :-)

collaborative··on The Leverage of LLMs for Individuals
This is starting to sound like a debate, but I feel that the burden of proof lies more in that LLMs are anything more than a blurry representation of the data they have been trained on than otherwise. I personally don't feel like I've brought Frankenstein to life each time I load a LLM into memory..
collaborative··on The Leverage of LLMs for Individuals
Also got a couple decades, a ChatGPT Plus subscription on top of running my own local instance of Vicuna and access to Bard.

Enjoy it while it lasts. The training set (Stack Overflow) will dry as people move away from it, resulting in model degradation, resulting in not having a useful AI AND not having a useful SO

I admit to using AI, but only for what I was using SO before. Which is 0% of the work I actually get paid for (maintaining existing software that requires expert knowledge). For personal projects, sure, it's useful. Want to code something in a new language? Great. You'll still be a beginner, and will have contributed nothing to the body of knowledge that has trained the model you are using

AI tools are absolutely useless once you get past any initial stage in a software development cycle

They just can't comprehend what needs to be done even if all that's required are 2 lines of code

However, we keep seeing posts from people who don't know html or how to create a chrome extension paternalizing about how we can be much more productive with AI tools. Last I heard a CEO was demanding dev increased productivity or firing some devs because he saw a Youtube video about how easy it is to create a website now

The only usefulness I see is in AI replacing SO. Once SO dries we'll have neither

collaborative··on Please don’t upload my code on GitHub
It's hype for suckers intentionally created by the mega corps (remember "Sparks of AGI"?). The real goal is to get away with theft long enough until the regulators give up and accept their right to be above the law (aka "disruption"). And then there's the army of intentionally misguided youtube creators that want to get views by showing how they created a website without knowing html

collaborative··on The Commission for Stopping Further Improvements
Those engineers hire lawyers that retain such vagabonds when needed. You'd be suprised to know how many corrupt lawyers there are

If you haven't met any that's ok

collaborative··on The Commission for Stopping Further Improvements
It's common practice to retain vagabonds that can sign legal papers. Any criminal entrepreneur knows this
collaborative··on Competition authorities need to move fast and break up AI
No, still only indexed data. But MS now says you can't use an AI to inspect the returned URLs (as if they owned the actual content)
collaborative··on Competition authorities need to move fast and break up AI
In the past, search engines such as DuckDuckGo have utilized Bing's index, primarily because Microsoft was eager to challenge Google's dominance and welcomed the participation of smaller players.

However, as the linked article suggests, if Microsoft now plans to close off Bing's API (potentially sensing vulnerability in Google), it seems that the influence of monopoly power remains strong and prevalent.

collaborative··on Community is the future of AI: Blog post and community discussion
Funny thing I just realised I have contributed absolutely nothing to SO since ChatGPT came out. I wonder if others have done the same. I also wonder if open source zealots are enough to keep these regurgitators up-to-date or if their quality will decline as the dead internet approaches
collaborative··on MiniGPT-4
So OpenAI ostensibly owns "GPT4" according to your argument. But does it own "MiniGPT4"? I hope you see the absurdity of this.

Let's not discuss the amount of copyright licenses OpenAI has already infringed, too

collaborative··on MiniGPT-4
At this point the letters GPT make more sense than "AI" or "LLM" in many peoples minds
collaborative··on Samsung considers moving to Bing as default search engine
Don't hand them money. Ads only makes sense for companies with money to burn (mega corps)
collaborative··on Samsung considers moving to Bing as default search engine
I created AISearch.vip but honestly I am now going to open source it and make it a locally run stand-alone AI search engine because it's absurd having to call OpenAI APIs in the backend when I can let the user run it with their own API keys

There's no moat in anything AI, but MS gets OpenAI access at a discount and therefore will win

collaborative··on MiniGPT-4
With fp8, would 4GB be enough or is 6GB more like it?
collaborative··on MiniGPT-4
Adding GPT4 to anything now increases marketing x4. So many AI news coming out lately that not adding it risks drowning in a sea of info.. even in the case of a good project
collaborative··on Show HN: GPT-4-powered web searches for developers
[Shameless plug] I was partially inspired by phind.com to develop aisearch.vip

It flags results containing ads or seo results, uses gpt to summarize rather than cite, and gives an overall ai gpt summary

It's prepaid (first search is free) and has a login wall

collaborative··on A search engine for your personal network of high-quality websites
Are you saying that you would abuse users' data if given the chance?
collaborative··on A search engine for your personal network of high-quality websites
I recently came up with aisearch.vip (similar concept) and frankly, there is no way around this

A future is coming where everything that isn't behind a login wall will be widely abused. ToS mean nothing in the era of AI. Quality searches will stop being free and cost actual money because the alternative is to drown the users in ads and, yes, monetize their data

If you can't learn to establish trust with non-AI entities then..

collaborative··on He who submits a resume has already lost
Yeah if the interview ever comes there'll be plenty of time to actually be interested
collaborative··on He who submits a resume has already lost
That's because you're smart enough to look for key information and make assumptioms

Most HR people prefer the 5-page, write-down-everything-you-have-done resume. I know because I have tried both routes and because of the feedback I got I have ended up maintaining 2 versions (long and short)

collaborative··on SearchGPT: Flags SEO results, ad-ridden sites, and removes click-bait
Hi,

I posted this some time ago but didn't get any traction. I get that it's behind a login wall, but this is necessary as running costs are high and usage needs to be tracked

An initial credit is given and then it becomes pre-paid. The price is a bit ridiculous atm (10c per good result) but I plan on halving it soon (I am being paranoid about going bankrupt)

Bing + ChatGPT + Custom code = search without SEO junk, sites containing ads, and with summaries instead of click-bait
