Gen Z & A value uniqueness and authenticity. I think the customization options will resonate a lot with them.
Hit the weekly limit on my 20x plan last week trying to do a full front end rewrite of a giant enterprise web app, 600+ html templates, plus validating every single one with playwright.
In my mind, a senior engineer knows what needs extra attention and where it’s ok to cut corners.
I’d love to hear more about your workflow if you have time to share!
Buying a rig is accepting defeat.
Except this vape ran out faster than I expected. I have a big week at work coming up and I can’t afford the dip in energy level and productivity that comes with withdrawal. I’ll buy one more just this once and then I’ll quit for sure.
Amazing the hoops my mind jumps through for an addictive molecule.
This is a great start! You’re already doing what most people find the hardest: making the first move.
Grabbing coffee, and even going out to dinner, aren’t good activities for making deep connections. They’re too short and too routine. They can work, it’ll just take longer, and you will have to work harder to make sure conversation is meaningful.
I think the best way to make real friendships is to go on a weekend trip somewhere together. First of all, you’re spending days together instead of hours, but more importantly, you’ll have a shared experience to remember. You get to see what someone is like not only during activities and meals, but also during downtime.
Weekend trips could be awkward if it’s just one on one though, so if you don’t have a group, the next best thing is doing an activity together. Figure out a shared interest, then invite your new friend to do something you’d both enjoy. Maybe it’s a concert, talk, hike, whatever. Do that a few times and your new friend will associate you with that activity. Next time they’re going to a concert/talk/hike or whatever, they’ll invite you to tag along.
Manual saving files with different version names is the easiest solution that would probably work for most use cases. That’s what I do for music production. Every time I start a session I save my project with a new minor version, e.g. Epic Banger v0.4, in case I need to revisit older versions. I wish there was a way to include change log messages though.
Why bother with blockchain?
For example, if you had three monthly payments of $5, $10, and $10, you might book something like:
Cash (5) Expense 8.33 Deferred (3.33)
Cash (10) Expense 8.33 Deferred 1.67
Cash (10) Expense 8.33 Deferred 1.67
All three of those blocks of entries balance, but the sum of expenses is 24.99 instead of 25.
I’m not sure there’s a way around this issue if you’re forced to use two decimal places. Luckily the discrepancy is immaterial. I’d love to know if anyone else has encountered this problem.
The best use I can think of is for undercover agents to drink heavily and avoid intoxication!
I bet way more people would try Android if they could fully participate in group texts.
Or at least I did before I switched to writing on my Kindle scribe. I do miss the analog experience sometimes though.
And the website is amazing. “Finally, a command line shell for the 90s”
It’s definitely possible to reduce this threshold too far! If you do you’ll end up jumping into the first project you come across and tackling it with gusto, whether or not it’s high value. Having too much caffeine with Adderall makes this effect much worse for me.
A little bit of laziness is good! You need to be able to power through the tedious stuff you have to do in life, but you never want to stop thinking, “this is tedious and boring, do I really have to do this? Is there a better way?”
It’s easy to lose the forest for the trees.
I think it’s ridiculous to make a blanket statement about how kids are raised in America vs France with zero evidence to back it up. There are plenty of strict parents in the US, and I’m sure there are plenty of lax parents in France. Plus, as the article states:
> The American psychiatrists believe that ADHD is a disorder based on biological issues.
So the way a kid is raised has nothing to do with whether or not they have ADHD.
According to the article, the real reason “Why French Kids Don’t Have ADHD” is because the doctors avoid that diagnosis:
> Basically the French community has decided to focus more on fixing the underlying causes of the problem behavior instead of giving it a wide range diagnosis.
Looking for underlying causes and fixing problem behavior sounds great, I just feel like the article is confuses having ADHD and being diagnosed with ADHD.
Despite my problems with the article, I actually do think that ADHD in children is over diagnosed in the US. And even if the disorder itself isn’t over diagnosed, I think ADHD medication are over prescribed to children. Those medications have can have negative side effects, like reducing appetite and therefore growth, but that’s not even my main problem with it. As other posters have described really well, ADHD medication can reduce creativity and problem solving skills. If a kid is medicated too young they might obey the rules a little too much and develop into a less creative, interesting, and dynamic person as a result.
I never considered motivation and willpower to be separate, but I think your breakdown makes a lot of sense.
The euphoria is a negative side effect in my opinion. That’s what leads to abuse and addiction. Don’t chase it!
I’m sure you’ve heard all this before, but make sure you’re getting enough sleep and exercise. Also, avoid acidic drinks in the morning like coffee and OJ when taking your medication. The acid can break down some of the medication before your body has a chance to absorb it.
