danjc··on The Best Monopoly Strategy, Tested on 300M Games [video]
It's surprising that a content creator would put this much work into a video and then use an AI narration.
danjc··on AI models can provably hide arbitrary capabilities
Thank you for calling this out. It annoys me to no end that the default mode is to ascribe intent to a function.
danjc··on Reverse engineer anything with agents, from app behavior down to native binaries
There's no obscurity anymore. Best you can do is keep as much as possible server side. Curious if anyone has experimented with LLM's RE'ing obfuscated code. I suspect they handle it just fine.
danjc··on AI coding agents generate more code, but not more software
We're going to need to start putting the month in brackets after the article title, not just the year!
danjc··on OpenAI "rogue" agent activities found on Wikimedia projects
Kudos to them for consistently putting "rogue" in quotes.
danjc··on Apple Pass Designer
In the limit, this could compete with Ticketmaster
danjc··on Tests of the New AI Siri
A lot of that list sounds like the "ai, please press the order me pizza button" meme.
danjc··on Salesforce Global Outage
It's dns isn't it
danjc··on AI researchers debate how close we are to recursive self-improvement
Are you a visitor from the past?
danjc··on Splash-free urinals (2025)
Worth noting that this study was partially funded by the university of Waterloo
danjc··on Bug Blindness
This hits. Ive had an annoying issue with Codex VS Code extension for weeks if not months when queuing up a follow up. Often it just disappears, I think it's just a UI glitch is actually queued but I can't click steer if the UI doesn't update and I find myself automatically going CMD+A, CMD+C before sending a follow up message.
danjc··on Claudette: Make Claude stop talking like a BuzzFeed article
People who say things like "please could you" to the model probably have less of an issue with this.
danjc··on Cosine similarity is dead. Long live cosine similarity (2025)
(2025)
danjc··on OpenAI’s accidental attack against Hugging Face is science fiction that happened
Thank you, I'd assumed they'd restrict egress at layer 3/4 although I guess then it might just have found an exploit on the http server of an endpoint it was able to access.
danjc··on OpenAI’s accidental attack against Hugging Face is science fiction that happened
The part I don't understand is how a model can break out of a sandbox. It should be fairly easy to make a sandbox that sandboxes.
danjc··on Terence Tao's ChatGPT conversation about the Jacobian Conjecture counterexample
Seems important that the breakthrough conversation with Fable that led to the counter example should be shared too.
danjc··on GPT‑Live
It would be great if we could have AI that wasn't trying to emulate a human. When it expresses emotion, we should see that as a bug that needs to be fixed.
danjc··on Statement on US government directive to suspend access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5
Even if they could practically restrict access to US citizens only, I would expect them not to - it would be hard to regain that once lost and they need a global market for growth.
danjc··on Cleaning up after AI rockstar developers
As much as it's true that a novice will generally use AI to build a sloppy mess, I've also had success unsloppifying through some careful prompting.
danjc··on OpenCV 5 Is Here: The Biggest Leap in Years for Computer Vision
It's not just annoying, it's tiring
danjc··on Ex-Apple engineer says Apple deliberately slows older phones via updates
Plot twist: Apple PR team created this video to make claims that they slow older devices seem less credible.
danjc··on At least 25 Flock cameras have been destroyed in five states since April 2025
A browser plugin that scores webpage content based on how likely it is to have been AI-generated would be quite useful.

Browser vendors can't build this.

danjc··on Don't trust AI agents
I've been waiting for someone to say this. An agent will generally produce far more code than technically necessary for the task. It's a kind of over engineering which makes it increasingly harder to wrap your head around the codebase.
danjc··on Trains cancelled over fake bridge collapse image
The issue is provenance. We need cameras and phones to digitally sign photos so we can easily verify an unadulterated image.

You also want to be able chain signing so that for example a news reporter could take a photo, then the news outlet could attest its authenticity by adding their signature on top.

Same principle could be applied to video and text.

danjc··on We saved $500k per year by rolling our own "S3"
I'd it's processed in 2 seconds, why not just process it immediately in memory?
danjc··on Claude Skills are awesome, maybe a bigger deal than MCP
It's all jit context
danjc··on Meta Ray-Ban Display
It looks like true 0-temperature (i.e. determinism) will happen. Here's some good context: https://thinkingmachines.ai/blog/defeating-nondeterminism-in...
danjc··on You’re a slow thinker. Now what?
You can just call yourself a reasoning model now
danjc··on OpenAI’s latest research paper demonstrates that falsehoods are inevitable
This is written by someone who has no idea how transformers actually work
danjc··on ChatGPT Developer Mode: Full MCP client access
I think you've nailed it there. OpenAI are at a point where the risk of continuing to hedge on mcp outweighs the risk of mcp calls doing damage.
