dankohn1··on Abstract Wikipedia
Because Cyc is not seen as having been successful, so comparing a new project to it implies that Abstract Wikipedia won't be successful either. And, of course, all new approaches in each discipline fail, until sometimes they start succeeding.
dankohn1··on Abstract Wikipedia
Sorry to be the typical pessimistic HN commenter (e.g., Dropbox is just ftp), but this seems ambitious enough to remind me of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyc.

dankohn1··on Show HN: Instant search of 200K+ SVG logos from 100 sources
I'm glad to see you're pulling from the CNCF landscape, where we have 1,400 individual curated SVGs. There are another few thousand across the other Linux Foundation landscapes referenced at https://landscapes.dev/.

(Up-to-date list is https://github.com/cncf/landscapeapp/blob/master/landscapes.... .)

dankohn1··on Show HN: Instant search of 200K+ SVG logos from 100 sources
While collecting over a thousand SVGs for https://landscape.cncf.io, I found that the SVGs often needed cropping and other optimization. So (with a colleague) I wrote and open sourced svg-autocrop, and made it available at https://autocrop.cncf.io.

Try it out for optimizing your SVGs.

I'm not totally clear why this article enrages me more than anything else I've read this week. Maybe the short-sightedness on top of the injustice.
dankohn1··on Traders Seek China's Masks to Help U.S. Hospitals Battle the Coronavirus
"In the former French Concession neighborhood of Shanghai, some of the traders who handle masks gather several nights a week at a Western bar that specializes in grilled-cheese sandwiches."

It feels like we're living in a cyberpunk movie.

dankohn1··on Correlation between BCG vaccination policy and reduced mortality for Covid-19
Nice that they've already begun a double-blind trial https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2020/03/can-century-old-tb-v...

"the wholesale price was US$0.16 to US$1.11 a dose in the developing world.[6][7] In the United States it costs US$100 to US$200." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BCG_vaccine

dankohn1··on Correlation between BCG vaccination policy and reduced mortality for Covid-19
What if we already have a partial COVID-19 vaccine?
dankohn1··on Health-insurance premiums could rise 40% or more next year
The uniquely terrible US healthcare system succeeds in privatizing profits during most years but socializing losses, just like the finance industry in 2008-09.

dankohn1··on Ask HN: What automation tools have you used to replace mundane activities?
If you travel regularly, Tripit is a great service for organizing your flights and hotels on to your calendar (Google Calendar also does this with Gmail but it doesn’t work reliably, especially if you book some of your travel via your personal email account). You can set up a free Tripit account and either forward your receipts to it or let it look into your email for them automatically. Add the calendar of your Tripit trips to your work Google Calendar. These now show up in as a second calendar but are not visible to your co-workers. Create a free Zapier account and use a Zap to automatically copy all events from your Tripit calendar to your work calendar, which your colleagues can see. If you want to be shown as available while traveling, you need to change the multi-day event that Tripit creates from busy to available. And if you change your flights, you need to manually delete the old ones. But, people will no longer book you into meetings when you're on a plane.

dankohn1··on Founders share the challenges of running a tech business
I would encourage you to try to find a low-cost developer in the developing world (perhaps via Fiverr) who could serve a QA function for you. It might take you 4 or 5 tries, but you might be able to find someone very low cost who would be able to work with you on QA and debugging.
dankohn1··on Where are all the animated SVGs?
CNCF now administers one of the larger collection of SVG logos at https://l.cncf.io. We've also rolled out other landscapes like for motion picture animation https://l.aswf.io and AI https://l.lfai.foundation.

In the process, we've built a tool to autocrop and optimize SVGs so that they are as small as possible and work correctly in Illustrator and all other readers. The tool is open source and available at https://autocrop.cncf.io.

dankohn1··on Was the containers hype an industry/tech media propaganda?
The clearest path is to become a Certified Kubernetes Administrator. There are a number of companies currently hiring CKAs.

Disclosure: CNCF, which I run, manages the CKA and the job board. But I really have seen many people get great jobs by becoming a CKA.

dankohn1··on Kubernaughty: A collection of documentation, how-tos, tools for K8s
You can use affinity to assign pods to nodes. https://kubernetes.io/docs/concepts/configuration/assign-pod...

But if you want several containers to always be deployed together, you want to put them in the same pod. You do this in the deployment yaml.

dankohn1··on Kubernaughty: A collection of documentation, how-tos, tools for K8s
Have you tried just putting the images in the same pod? You might want to search and read about the sidecar pattern.
