dddnzzz334··on The Curse of Soldered RAM
Microsoldering is a must to survive in the repair industry in India because of how common it is to get your phones repaired. The second/third hand market is also huge.

As for where they learn it, there are tons of informal institutes, courses teaching people mobile/laptop repairing.

Although I will say, the people doing repairing in India have very little knowledge about basic electronics.

There are companies like Borneo (and other Chinese companies) selling schematics and laptop/phone specific repair/unlock guides doing much of the heavy lifting of distributing knowledge in this area.

As for what tools are involved etc. you can search "Learn Mobile Repairing" on YouTube and you'll get a lot of videos.

Here is a small list of people selling courses on mobile repairing in India alone:

I am so glad that people like Louis Rossmann[1], Electronics Repair School[2], NorthridgeFix[3] and countless others have worked to change that perception.

Chip-level repair SHOULD be the norm.

China has been the master at this stuff for a while with institutes like Wantong Training School, Shenzhen etc.

It is a real shame that much of this knowledge is either on Chinese or Russian Internet forums or buried in obscure and unsearchable YouTube videos.

DIY'ing this is something I would never trust myself with. There are people who do this day in and day out and I would trust them with it.

Searching for "bga soldered ram chip change laptop" on YouTube returns like thousands of results of people doing this.

Although I now realize how skewed my perception of microsoldering and other such skills because such skills seem to be extremely niche in the west.

dddnzzz334··on The Curse of Soldered RAM
It is fairly simple business to desolder the old BGA chip and replace with a new one.

There are specialized shops willing to do this around the world. This is especially common in third world countries, Eastern Europe, China etc.. There are people who would do this change for around 5-10 USD in India (as long as you can find the replacement yourself).

I am amazed at how many people on this forum think of this as some scary dark magic.

dddnzzz334··on Sudo local privilege escalation vulnerabilities fixed
I strongly believe sudo must not be installed on personal user systems. It's attack surface is far too large and that too for features no one other than enterprise is ever gonna use.

How many systems have sudo installed and how many of them are using sudoers config in LDAP or SSSD or the log collector or any of the stupid features like chroot etc.?

dddnzzz334··on Dogbolt Decompiler Explorer
The code is open source and has been looked at by several people over the years. It would be quite hard for the NSA to sneak in a backdoor but it is never out of the question. However, the risk is so extremely minuscule when compared to other alternatives since they are not even open source.

dddnzzz334··on Show HN: Python-Type-Challenges, master Python typing with online exercises
I am unable to do https://python-type-challenges.zeabur.app/intermediate/calla...

I am doing

    type SingleStringInput = Callable[[str], None]
but it doesn't seem to work :(

EDIT:

I got the problem. You need a new line at the end since it seems as if it is concatenating my last line to the first line of the test.

If the government doesn't have problem with criticism, why do they censor people left and right and impose the draconian UAPA on any media which criticizes them? Your linked videos are quite literally propaganda pieces by a well-known propaganda channel. >Akash Banerjee is a leftist. He isn't.

I would disagree. It is nice at the start but it shows the same things on the same search result forever. That is not something that you'd want in a Porn search engine, you'd want it to have some amount of randomization.

China has UnionPay and Russia has MIR. Neither comes close to competing with VISA and MasterCard. The thing is that these cards only work domestically and are literally impossible to pay for things online (unless the payment processor specifically caters to your market). Unless RuPay can be used painlessly internationally, it won't be of much use.
