I walk to my pc and type ssh-keygen. If i can’t do that I’ve got bigger problems. “I must be able to recover remotely using a memorised credential” is a terrible requirement.
DNSSEC adoption rate means that this would be insufficient to detect (let alone prevent) that type of tampering for most domains. The correct solution is identified the the first paragraph of the post, which is to use a tamper resistant transport to the dns server (eg DoT, or DoH if you like everything being wrapped in http)
Dear god, the commies are in our software!!! Imagine if those types had a clue just how much digital infrastructure ran on code written by "communists"
Perhaps this is an artefact of how people get rich or the types of people that are able to get rich in our world, not the mere fact that they get rich.
is it integrity to ignore the very clear, direct requests of the person paying me? Like that's a nice idea, and I like what that page is saying, but reality is not so clear cut. If I believe our product is not generally in the public good, is it actually integrity to commit slop to the repo?
Why should any rank and file Microsoft employee care about the long term health of the codebase? I'm struggling to find reason to care about not committing pure slop to my own employer's codebase but it's A) what they want and B) path of least resistance for me
The entire stack described in the post is the stuff of nightmares. ColdFusion, IIS on Windows Server, PHP. Things that make you wake up in a cold sweat.
Personally I've found Zed's agent to be much superior to OpenCode. IDK why but it gets better results from the same model on the same task. Using with GLM 5.3 and DeepSeek 4.1.
They wrote the words right there, in their post, on the page. They use it as a review process. I do too. If it makes it into a commit, I know I've looked at it and at the very least decided "this isn't too awful to commit".
They do that anyway today. You really think authors, book writing being the lucrative industry for writers that it is, are suing Universal/Sony/whoever to prevent their IP being infringed?
I do really want a world however where fans/communities can riff on and make derivative works of culturally relevant material without being legally nuked from orbit. The last few weeks have been amazing in the gaming world, creativity abounds and there seem to be no limits as to what we can redesign to our own whims.
The drug dealer gives you a free hit because it is profitable for him in the long term for you to be addicted to his product, not because he is your friend.
It's absolutely insane to me that more orgs aren't rolling out things like uBlock Origin. In fact, at my bigbrain sillycunt valley job I am forbidden by policy from installing it (though no technical control in place). It's the simplest, highest ROI protection you can use on the web imo.
Don’t let adversarial agents work on your code?? What is protecting an ADR against adversarial agents going to solve if they can just embed a highly advanced, obfuscated ‘rm -rf windows32’ anyway
Maybe. This reminds me of the Asimov short story "It's Such a Beautiful Day". Teleportation became so normalised in this fictional society that using a regular door and going outside is seen as deviant.
Can't speak to the UK experience but in Australia, the nature of in-branch assistance has changed but IMO for the better. No more standing in line waiting for Nanna to get her pension out. I book an appointment online, rock up, get my limit raised or whatever, bam done.
