The same EU that still hasn't ratified CETA; 10 members still blocking it.
Did I say there were?
The US has higher thresholds in every state and no federal sales tax, and buyers pay the duties.
There's also strict country of origin rules so if too many materials are sourced outside Canada, even if its made in Canada it can be subject to tariffs. Not to mention needing to adhere to EU standards.
Emacs Lisp...
> I'm not actually convinced at this point on the value of a lot of the extant elisp out there.
I agree but lots of people probably don't.
Because investors have pumped hundreds of billions into AI and real consequences put that money (and growth) at risk.
This is trying to be compatible with GNU Emacs.
In general fair use pretty much always requires it to be transformative and/or point to the source. Simply scraping it to prevent people from going to X isn't free use in any definition I've heard.
Linux follows international sanctions in not allowing citizens of certain countries to be involved in any way, why isn't Anthropic following the law?
Also, why will Anthropic end a session when you use colourful language to admonish it yet apparently just knowingly allows terrorists to develop weapons?
They one-shot tasks for which there's a git clone one-liner, except worse.
My experience with them one shotting tasks is that it usually doesn't work if you try anything ambitious. You need agents iterating. And agents iterating isn't an LLM improvement. I did say tooling got better...
How often do you hack on actual LLMs? Or do you just use the chatbot or API for your agents? An LLM without internet access or tools is just as useless as a year ago.
If Anthropic and OpenAI were still seeing exponential or even linear gains from scaling they'd be doing it because the rewards to reaching AGI or SGI before everyone else are basically infinite. If both are talking about slowing down it means there's no known path to AGI so they're both going to push the safety angle as an excuse to slow down training new models and take profit.
It does mean they tried to eliminate inflation as a factor. In my experience though the basket of goods used for inflation calculations do a poor job representing the majority of consumers' and businesses' costs.
AMD has powered 2 generations each of Sony and Xbox consoles, Steam deck and shops a ton of GPUs especially if you count APUs. And then Intel literally ship more GPUs than Nvidia and AMD combined.
The gaming market doesn't need Nvidia. Especially as AAA is cratering.
You tell me. Median household (+ individuals not in an economic family) income went up $5k from 2015-2024. Given what you've experienced inflation wise in that time period what do you think?
US median household income went up $15k in that time period ($22k CAD), so >4x more.
I live in Canada. Under the current government, business investment cratered, 40% of our 1% earners left and our GDP per capita relative to the US dropped by 40%.
Keep in mind that LLMs were basically invented in Canada and we've captured next to none of the economic activity.
Elon Musk, Ilya Sutskever, Andrej Karpathy and Geoffrey Hinton are all Canadian citizens lol...
