dokem··on Why do cats knead?
Only tangentially related: when I was a kid we let a couple stray female dogs sleep in our garage during the winter. One of them was pregnant and ended up delivering like 11 puppies in our garage. Both the mother and the other stray dog began lactating and both dogs would breast-feed the puppies.

We gave away all the puppies around the neighborhood. We took one, so did our aunt and a family friend. It was an interesting experience to get to see how different dogs from the same litter and different environments grew up. When they would get together you could tell they remembered/knew each other. I still miss that dog - literally experienced his entire life :(

dokem··on 240W USB-C PD chargers are nearly here, says Framework CEO
That doesn't mean you have any less heat to dissipate.
dokem··on Army tested 'germ warfare' on NYC subway (2015)
It has to have gotten worse since the whole JFK thing.
dokem··on Scientists Guide Lightning Bolts with Lasers for the First Time
I think the problem is you'd have to put the laser system on the area you want destroyed. Lightning can really only kill someone or light stuff on fire - and we already have weapons that can achieve this more easily that mounting a laser system in person. So it doesn't look like this is really forming an effective weapon unless you can direct the lightning, ideally stealthily, to a third location. Maybe it could be mounted to a drone that flies over? I'm still having a hard time imagining a scenario where this provides new leverage.
dokem··on Dell in hot water for making shoppers think overpriced monitors were discounted
We were going out of business, but the sale was so successful we're doing ok now!
dokem··on What hallucinogens will make you see
The replication subreddit has had some really impressive content also.
dokem··on Deadly heart attacks are more common on a Monday
A case of the Mondays?
dokem··on Snowden Ten Years Later
It really is guillotine time.
dokem··on How Wittgenstein Watched Movies
This will solve literally nothing.
dokem··on 'Guilt Tipping': Pressure to tip has gotten out of control
Holy shit man grow some balls. Yes, this is a constructive comment. You cannot let yourself be pushed around and extorted by such petty 'fears'.
dokem··on Pneumatic Antenna Launching Systems
In reality this is not much of a concern at ~100psi. The bigger concern is to make sure that you get a good clean glue seal at all of the joints. That is the most likely error and point of failure. Also, don't drop it.
dokem··on An Excel error led Austria's SPÖ to announce the wrong candidate as the winner
Does Excel have version control and diffing? I know Word does.
dokem··on George Takei recalls his childhood in an internment camp
The camps went away and the guns stayed. Seems effective.
dokem··on George Takei recalls his childhood in an internment camp
There's no more people in camps in the US because we actually have power.
dokem··on The decline and fall of the hit instrumental song
I recommend Sithu Aye.
dokem··on India calls for all mobile phones to include FM radios
Didn't one of the old iPhones or iPods have a FM receiver that used the headphones as an antenna?
dokem··on Fakespot Is Acquired by Mozilla
I use firefox everyday at work and home and can't think of a single thing that 'needs' to be fixed from a user perspective. It loads up the internet and is fast. So I don't think defining Mozilla's vision as 'fix a bunch of random issues' is very wise. Gnome key-ring support and porting to rust? How is that going to grow the user base?
dokem··on Ask HN: Project ideas for a Linux kernel module
Write a simple USB driver for interacting with some arduino widget. I'm talking actual USB not serial emulation. For instance, when you plug in some microcontroller/arduino with a small LCD screen you can `echo Hello World > /dev/my_lcd_screen` and it will appear.
dokem··on PornHub blocks users in Utah, cites state’s age verification law
Yea go tell that to someone actually living in a third world country. How out of touch and spoiled can you be?
dokem··on The Struggle to Make Lab-Grown Meat
Yea, I'll give up real meat when the elites do.
dokem··on Steven Spielberg: ‘No film should be revised’ based on modern sensitivity
It says here in this history book that luckily, the good guys have won every single time. What are the odds? -Norm MacDonald.
dokem··on Religious Faith Is Surging Among Young People
It's the opposite for me personally. While I still wouldn't say I believe in a tangible god or higher power in any meaningful way, I have come to grow more of an interest and appreciation for religion, specifically christianity, as I've gotten older. I'll never be a bible freak but I would like to, one day, be able to say I honestly believe in (a) god. I'm not sure what that means exactly, and it could be wrong, but if it's all the same I'd much rather be the person that believes.
dokem··on US could soon approve MDMA therapy
You did 5 minutes of internet research, think you know what you're talking about, and now think I owe you something. I can't help you.
dokem··on Farmers ‘crippled’ by satellite failure as GPS-guided tractors grind to a halt
Everything is already complex. The rubber in the tires, foundries for the metal in the tractor, machining tools and welding equipment, the processes and tools to develop insecticides, water infrastructure. Why is a far away radio a bridge too far? It already takes a nation to build tractors at scale.
dokem··on US could soon approve MDMA therapy
That's the thing. Tripping and self reflecting isn't edgy. It's been made to seem edgy. Someone died while doing drugs? Guess we should only sell beer at the psych office too so they can save us. And cut your self righteous bullshit about internet comments being uncalled for. Trauma and overcoming, i.e, the human experience, isn't new. These mega institutions sticking their whole fist up our ass is. I'm not against the idea that there needs to be 'the man'. But people are sold the idea that it's only ok or 'safe' to trip in a doctors office I think we need to get a grip. Might as well fuck in front of them too.
dokem··on Imgur Updates TOS, Banning NSFW Content
Replace 'hate' with "things I don't like" and you'll see why your comment provides no insight. Hate is subjective and political.
dokem··on US could soon approve MDMA therapy
Or just do drugs by yourself or with friends and not around some stranger who guides you to state approved answers. Also do mushrooms, not this shit. Only reason they're pushing this brain-melting stuff is because they can make a buck.

'actually drugs are good now. Just give us your credit card and insurance info and step right this way'. Fuck off. Do drugs in the woods and sort your shit out like we've been doing for thousands of years. Get out of here nerd.

dokem··on Twitter's Hateful Bots: Search Results for “As an AI Language Model”
My claim is that 'mean things' have to be true. Claiming a false belief isn't mean or an insult, that's just being wrong.
dokem··on Twitter's Hateful Bots: Search Results for “As an AI Language Model”
lol is that the best you got? I'm still waiting to hear how 'mean things' don't have to be true or atleast a generally agreed upon belief for subjective matters. I just spent 3 days in the woods too and if I had to guess you've not spent much time outdoors. I can tell because your views are completely artificial and detached.
dokem··on Twitter's Hateful Bots: Search Results for “As an AI Language Model”
Aren't mean things only mean when they're true? No one gets hurt by insults that aren't believable. Seems like a losing battle trying to make the world be 'nice'. As they say, 'touch grass'.
