doomroot··on Stoop Coffee: A simple idea transformed my neighborhood
I doubt you'd have much of an issue rejoining the group.
doomroot··on Doge Social Security Closures: Recipients Need to Visit Offices to Get Benefits
The title is clickbait, in the article it says they can verify online. The change is to stop verification over the phone.
doomroot··on Show HN: Agents.json – OpenAPI Specification for LLMs
The resend api has around 10 endpoints.
doomroot··on San Francisco homelessness: Park ranger helps one person at a time
> but noone is framing that situation as the problem.

I think yimbys are framing that situation as THE problem.

doomroot··on Introducing deep research
It looks like the moral high just came more in demand.
doomroot··on No one is disrupting banks – at least not the big ones
There are pros and cons of cryptocurrencies as money, just like gold, which cause people to speculate on the price.
doomroot··on No one is disrupting banks – at least not the big ones
There are other banking models that are needed. Look into Custodia Bank’s model (SPDI). Full reserve system meant to backstop high risk (but legal) businesses. They went through a multi-year lawsuit around the start of 2020 with the fed who didn’t want them to exist, ultimately lost.
doomroot··on Decentralized Syndication – The Missing Internet Protocol
My thought as well.

ps When is your SC podcast coming back?

doomroot··on Ask HN: Why don't companies make applicants pay a fee to apply to a job?
You probably mass apply to jobs you aren’t remotely qualified for.
doomroot··on Ask HN: Why don't companies make applicants pay a fee to apply to a job?
If it guaranteed that you got a phone screen, I imagine a lot of SWEs would take that deal.
doomroot··on Ask HN: Why don't companies make applicants pay a fee to apply to a job?
$50 is a common application fee for a rental apartment in a city in the US. I would imagine no one would be interested in paying $5k to apply to 100 jobs.
doomroot··on The PlanetScale vectors public beta
applying to yc with this idea.
doomroot··on Ask HN: What are you working on (August 2024)?
It's possible they aren't talking about code at all.

"This team member, and this other team member are both filing a particular kind of report but are doing so in very different ways, is one of them more effecient?"

I like it. Seems like there could be lots of ways to automate the creation of SOP for many businesses. I do wonder how high level of tasks it could pick up on. Though maybe that gets better with a bigger context window.

doomroot··on Show HN: If YouTube had actual channels
There is a youtube video id on the remote :)

I personally love the minimalism.

doomroot··on React 19 almost made the internet slower
Hhmmm not sure how react helps here. I would love to see your code if you could share a gist?
doomroot··on Effect – Build robust apps in TypeScript
This takes 0 reasoning. You’ve given it an exact map to follow to the answer.
doomroot··on Merging Remix and React Router
I wish this were true. In the modern JavaScript ecosystem you either pin everything or pin nothing.
doomroot··on Startup Idea: Reverse Amazon
If you live in a semi-dense population, put it on the curb then post about it on your local facebook group and it will disappear in minutes.
doomroot··on A proposal to add signals to JavaScript
I believe memory leaks to start
doomroot··on Airbnb is banning indoor security cameras
I've seen this before too. Clearly shady.
doomroot··on Google is embedding inaudible watermarks into its AI generated music
To sell a product. “Look at what our tool can produce.”
doomroot··on Oxide Hiring Process
It’s over your head. You wouldn’t understand.
doomroot··on Good LLM Validation Is Just Good Validation
Zod
doomroot··on Anything longer ago than yesterday should just say the actual date
Because oftentimes you think in chunks of time not dates. If a meeting is in 3 hours in instantly know what kinds of things I can do before that meeting. If a meeting is at 4:45pm. I have to know the current time, calculate the difference then I can start planning my time.
doomroot··on Discord as a filehost will no longer be possible by the end of the year
One has to think the ungodly amount of images being shared from midjourney has something to do with this?
doomroot··on Y Combinator CEO Garry Tan’s War on San Francisco Politics Has Only Just Begun
Increasing any amount of supply will decrease prices while demand stays constant. Do you have reason to believe demand will grow at the same rate as new housing is built?
doomroot··on Programmatic SEO
If I'm not mistake google doesn't get paid for ads unless you click on them. In other words google doesn't charge Ads customers for impressions, only clicks.
doomroot··on Bitcoin is not a store of value
No, this was very different than ETH/ETC. Bitcoin cash was a minority of people forking away from the BTC chain to increase the blocksize. ETC was the original chain that was forked away from to reclaim stolen funds because of a smart contract hack.

Generally when people are talking about “hard forking” they are referring to the majority making a backwards incompatible change that leaves little activity or economic value on the original chain. Bitcoin never forks like this, because who would coordinate it?

Bitcoin core maintainers tried to fork it and were not successful (See bitcoinXT).

Miners and community leaders tried to fork it and were not successful (see bitcoin cash).

Bitcoin exchanges and businesses tried to fork it and were not successful (see segwit2x).

And many more will come, I imagine a PoS fork will inevitably come and not be successful.

doomroot··on The Ethereum merge is done
Not really the same. Mining pools simply point their capital at an api while those staking with exchanges literally give them their capital. With stratum V2 on the horizon (allows miners to construct their own blocks while in a pool) the similarities will be even less.
doomroot··on Crypto Is Not Here to Stay
This post makes a call to action and a lot of claims while providing no evidence. Seems like click farming to me.
