duxup··on Elon Musk's nearly half a billion dollars in midterms spending was a flop
The depth of the sweep reaching well past national offices and even state leadership offices and local legislators is pretty amazing.
duxup··on Britain to make salary disclosure in job ads mandatory
Could they potentially just choose to pay more than the disclosure?
duxup··on How Accurate Were Prediction Markets at Picking Midterm Winners?

duxup··on Kemi Badenoch says Africans should apologise for slavery
The apology or non-apology for such things are strange to me. If someone wants to do it I don’t mind but I don’t see any benefit from it.

The reparations concept seems totally disconnected from whatever it is for…. and impossible to somehow resolve long ago historical events.

duxup··on A map of 5000+ midterm ads
Part of the reason for the insane ads is that they’re often (not always) created and paid for by groups who don’t have a name to tarnish. They’re like running into that crazy neighbor who suddenly starts talking politics…. and you’re kinda scared.
duxup··on 'It's just vape, nail, charity shops': Can anything save UK high street?
It’s that way in some places in the US and I’m pretty sure local businesses aren’t taxed to death.
duxup··on Democrats win control of the House of Representatives
The scale of blue shift seems historic. Local news and evens seem like they’ve had no impact. It seems like a national referendum that ran all the way to local races.
duxup··on US voters roundly reject data centers in ballot measures
What is sad is we've been building data centers for decades without problems.

Some near me have wetlands around them and the houses bordering them are very desirable.

Seems like some bad apples ruined it for everyone.

duxup··on Kalshi and its co-founders face felony charges for violating Utah gambling laws
Do it Utah. The rest of us need you to.
duxup··on Google will turn off search for schools that reject AI
I should try that, i can't ever predict what ends up in some promotions folder or not ... it feels arbitrary.
duxup··on AI fan wikis riddled with errors are muddying the waters of games culture
Maybe but at least we fans who know would know…

In some ways that’s the web, everyone posts their stuff. Or at least it was.

duxup··on Casio Watches of the 1980s
Such a neat idea, great design too.
duxup··on MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch
Nobody cares about my windows touch screens / apps.
duxup··on Git for the US Code
Do legislators make the changes piece by piece like code themselves or their staff do it?

I always assumed they negotiated and then some group who made the deals wrote it all up.

duxup··on R/open source bans all solo projects and projects using LLMs
Reddit has a massive software sub spam problem ... i don't know what the solution is.
duxup··on Evolving Threat: http2shell is an RCE in Node, Python, and more
"Oh man, Jan really ruined my weekend."

I actually kinda like how that works.

duxup··on Jared Kushner Hacked Phone Reveals Secret Negotiations, Millions in Transactions
I don’t think they’re “owned” but they are for sale for given tasks … or straight shaking down folks.

Not quite the same thing.

duxup··on There isn't an easy exploit for this PHP vulnerability
>now people are being deluded by their LLMs telling them they have an exploit when they don't

I’ve found that if I’m looking into security issues that if you ask an LLM about a “security” issue… it will find one regardless if you have one or not. Like some over eager security consultant desperate to justify their job / collect more billable hours.

This is especially true if you have a bunch of server logs and ect.

duxup··on Why do we have so many meetings?
I work at a small company these days, the ability to “just fix it / make it” and not have many meetings is an absolute joy.
duxup··on Steam Users Beg for "No AI" Filter as Vibecoders Flood Next Fest
I don’t know how these filters don’t inevitably or immediately become a hellscape of fighting over definitions and enforcement…
duxup··on A Remote Employee Refused 160 Webcam Photos a Day. Her Employer Fired Her
Yup, if they want that, they can buy me a device.
duxup··on How the Elizabeth Holmes documentary “You Can See Everything” is deceiving
That’s wild to me, I grew up going to movies… everyone is pretty much silent.

It doesn’t occur to me as to why I would want to do that…

duxup··on How the Elizabeth Holmes documentary “You Can See Everything” is deceiving
>At one point, people were shouting so loudly at the screen that I couldn’t hear the dialogue. I heard a woman yell, “Criminal!”

I’m not sure this is some data point that supports the article.

The article seems to indicate that the film is some special event in the idea of deception, but i honestly couldn’t figure out how exactly. They just describe conflicts that might occur with any film….

duxup··on Steam Client is now faster than Epic's new vibe coded launcher
Misc speed improvements, security updates on old applications… I’m doing a lot of that lately, quite quickly.
duxup··on Iosevka is an open-source, sans-serif and slab-serif, monospace font
On iOS, Firefox the text on the page overlaps in places.
duxup··on Apple HomeView
I bought it.

Low enough price for me to be speculative. I go hunting for my iPad to frag it in the kitchen… often.

duxup··on Cartographers of North Korea (2019)
My impression was that abandoned children sort of live in bands, the folks sneaking across the border brought them food and money. They were in pretty rough shape visually. It wasn’t clear how long they last.
duxup··on Cartographers of North Korea (2019)
I recall a PBS documentary that had video of people who snuck across the Chinese border to film. I remember them meeting a 5 year old boy living on the street who said his mom moved away for work and “she didn’t come back”.

Heartbreaking.

duxup··on IRCv3
Apps that seemed to recognize that you’re probably doing something else.

Meanwhile today Teams seems to think that it needs a whole screen dedicated to itself… a place that I get nothing done.

duxup··on A Remote Employee Refused 160 Webcam Photos a Day. Her Employer Fired Her
I’ve had that situation too. I just didn’t do it.

I am not necessarily opposed to putting things like messaging or email on my personal phone but I’m not going as far as allowing the company to administer my personal device.
