dymk··on DoorDash to acquire Instacart
I'm sure it's fantastic, but "It improves the quality of my vacations" is still very much in line with "completely unnecessary"
dymk··on Gemini 4 Carbon
Ah, so the next will be Dubnium
dymk··on Anthropic S-1
Really? The rumors are that their margins on tokens is quite healthy. That doesn't seem like loss-leading to me.

And they all have as many laptops and desktops as the want, too
dymk··on OpenAI and Anthropic cut their LLM prices by up to 80% within a few months. Why?
Plenty of grids have different sorts of net metering ratios, grid maintenance fees, etc. But it's nothing compared to what you'd be paying taking power off of the grid, and there is a break-even period often measured in single-digit years. I still do not understand the point of what the GP was trying to make w.r.t. "taxes".

How do you figure that works?

Solar panels (which continue get cheaper every year) on my house makes charging my low-TCO EV free in 5 years
dymk··on Airbnb bans making guests do dishes and take out the trash
For the last 30 years were they charging a mandatory $150 cleaning fee, even if you're only staying 1 night?
dymk··on Voxtral 3
I think the special sauce of this isn't the STT/TSS (although it does appear to be quite good) - it's the integration of a real-time reasoning model to actually do something with the raw text of the conversation, and whatever they're doing to hide tool call latency if the model needs to search for something.
dymk··on Gemini 4 Argon
The "Explore the latest" section is nearly blank for me - are there supposed to be diagrams or visual aids, or is it one headline and sentence taking up the whole page on cards?

dymk··on Show HN: Giving Opus 5.5 a simulated paint canvas
Not really, if you watch the process videos it's not painting like a human would
dymk··on RIP, vector database
Databases, like filesystems, are one of those pieces of infrastructure you do not want to build yourself unless you have a really good reason. They're complex, and you will not catch all the bugs yourself.

Is it time to get rid of hammers and replace them with swiss army knives?
dymk··on Backblaze drive stats for Q2 2026
I’ve never seen an excel sheet with a sticky header broken in this way
dymk··on Factorio that you can touch
This is such a wild take, I'm not sure where to start. Let's just consider this:

> Barring things like textures and others.

Other than some really expensive stuff, it's not expensive. Who could have guessed?

dymk··on Seattle City Council votes to ban surveillance pricing in sale of groceries
They won't implement surveillance pricing for parking fees, if that's what you meant to say.
dymk··on Comma's hands-off driving tech under investigation after 2 fatal crashes
Over what period of time, and how many miles? How does that rate compare with other LKAS / ACC systems? Were they using the experimental vison-based distance estimation system & comma driven longitudinal control, or the car's stock radar based ACC (which bypasses comma control entirely)?

There's not enough details in the article to say if the comma contributed or not to the crashes.

This is a 45 second vibeslop video that tells me nothing other than “it’s a one shot classifier” which I doubt is the interesting or useful part.
dymk··on There's a 100% Chance AI Agents Are Ruining the Internet
Really? Seems like its goal was to be written about, not from some specific angle. It succeeded.
dymk··on Reverse engineering my e-scooter and rewriting the firmware in Rust
I see them fairly often in Seattle
dymk··on iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max
If they’re spending millions on faking an image, okay fine. That’s clearly not the security model intended for this feature though.
