egeozcan··on The Hackintosh Reborn
Came here to say this. If this thing ran Windows, it'd be a dream computer!

I'm kidding of course. Really looking forward to the days of the liberated mac hardware though!

egeozcan··on MS Paint Remote Code Execution Vulnerability
I guess it's time to finally bite the bullet and migrate to jspaint.

This is absurd.

egeozcan··on Just a little AI resistance, as a treat
> But using an AI to reply to a human is just disrespectful. It says the organisation values their customer's time at less than their own.

The alternative before the LLMs took over was getting a machine response to tell you that someone will look into it, then getting no response at all.

At least today, they spend a few cents to generate the same lousy response, which is much more respectful /s

egeozcan··on My Favourite Laptop
I find the thinkpads extemely cool, and I envy the customization / repair options soo much.

That said, I switched to a macbook pro last year and these machines are like from another world. I want to get things done instead of fiddling with the machine and, famous last words I know but, this thing just works.

Yes, it'll be e-waste the moment a small thing breaks, and costs like a years wage in some parts of the world, so it's no competition to the thinkpad.

I hope framework eventually delivers the best of both worlds.

egeozcan··on Show HN: Subvocal – Talk to your computer without making noise
Yes, I'd estimate the vast majority of people speak faster they can type. Not sure about the thinking part because I usually have 20 threads going parallel in my head and can't imagine what normal thinking would be like.
egeozcan··on ChatGPT and Codex usage limits merging
In the plan it says 10x weekly usage instead of a general "20x" statement (which was confusing, admittedly)

https://x.com/JesusIsGod/status/2116228727059411248 am I misinterpreting? Or was it always 10x? Everything is so vague, no wonder they call it "vibe-coding" :)

edit: A lot of people on twitter say it has always been 10x for weekly so what do I know

Claude Max x20 became x10 and now this? I think the demo period is ending.

So happy to have the open models!

egeozcan··on Gemini 4 Carbon is the new #1 on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index v5
I was having immense fun wit 2.5 Pro. Going as far as copying the whole repo into context with repomix.
egeozcan··on Gemini 4 Carbon is the new #1 on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index v5
They can release even Jambon and Jargon, why should I care when I cannot test it?
egeozcan··on GitLab Security Incident: Attempted Exploitation of CVE-2026-97229
As far as I know the ultimate (as in, when you follow the chain) holding company is from Delaware.
egeozcan··on GitLab Security Incident: Attempted Exploitation of CVE-2026-97229
Atlassian is a US-parented company and this means that CLOUD act can affect it. Even this only can make it unsuitable. Then there are questions to data-in-transit. Also nothing is legally tested. Vibe-coding an alternative is much safer if you have sensitive customer data (even simple support tickets).
egeozcan··on GitLab Security Incident: Attempted Exploitation of CVE-2026-97229
> This person is just posting absolutely baseless claims

You don't need to be so hostile. I know about the EU requirements but many EU companies have sensitive data on hosted JIRA / Confluence that simply cannot be in the possession of a non-European company. I know because I'm working for one. I cannot even remote-work from outside Europe. Some stuff cannot even leave the VPN. There's also the CLOUD act.

egeozcan··on The 'else' keyword is probably a literal translation from German (2020)
"Unless" feels like adding come-from (next to goto) to a language. A statement/flow should not change its meaning after being declared/written IMHO.

edit: My criticism is for the suffix version to be clear. Unless / else is actually cool.

egeozcan··on GitLab Security Incident: Attempted Exploitation of CVE-2026-97229
I know a lot of companies vibe-coding alternatives. I'm not an expert but it's perhaps even illegal for most European companies to migrate any customer data to Atlassian servers.

This made me remember the DHH and the 37signals drama, showing how hard it is to go against the management: https://www.theverge.com/2021/5/3/22418208/basecamp-all-hand...

Got the numbers on a spreadsheet. Of course this is a super simplistic version assuming equal yearly commitments.

egeozcan··on Microsoft Decision-1: 9B Qwen Model Launch Explained
Bikes with integrated decision models deciding which pelican needs a ride the most.

This made me realize it's been a long time since I did some brainstorming and how I missed it.

egeozcan··on Today, we hacked what we'd set out to hack: the iPhone
Also in Germany: The company I'm working for has a business support deal with them. I'm working remotely, so every time the company laptop dies (happens at least yearly), someone comes to my flat and literally fixes it here, replacing the motherboard and doing all sorts of repairs. Also every time, the laptop starts acting weirdly (freezing, random restarts, blue screens etc.) and they come another time, and on the third time, they finally replace the thing whole. All of them overheat and have standby issues (doesn't matter Windows or Linux). These things are like engineered to be unreliable. And yes, even the higher-end ones like XPS.

It's a night and day difference with mac.

egeozcan··on Removing Next.js Got My Blog to 100 on Every Lighthouse Category
Sentiment needs sentience, direction we're heading is the average of what exists, which works but is senseless.

egeozcan··on Today, we hacked what we'd set out to hack: the iPhone
Yes, but many, including me, find apple hardware better with great support, battery life, long life, etc.

I still have my linux desktop when I want to tinker.

egeozcan··on Today, we hacked what we'd set out to hack: the iPhone
The magnificent hardware. That's why I bought a macbook and that's why I'm planning to switch to an iPhone.
egeozcan··on Kimi K3.1 Pro and K3.1 Pro Highspeed
In my experience, the difference between your 1 & 2, and your 2 & 3 are huge, and I don't find Argon to be usable for any big tasks because it really does a big mess every now and then (which Astra also does but much less frequently and not in a "I just implemented something else with unusable code" way), and Placing Kimi after it seems like a very low evaluation.
egeozcan··on DeepSeek-v4.1-Flash-1017
Opus 5.5 is, generally speaking, a much better model than Sol 6.1. But I usually see that sol can discover much more edge cases than opus, and it's much cheaper (as in, subscription usage as well as token costs).
egeozcan··on Plex laid off the whole player team
I don't agree. There's a limit on how much you can influence things, and as a dev (or product owner or whatever) you need to pick your battles.

How a decision is made, what gets released etc. are all opaque processes and blaming the devs from the outside is not productive.

That said, I'm all for it for devs becoming more responsible for the end result, evaluated within the org boundaries. Especially these days when people tend to cop out with "oh cloude did it / didn't catch it" responses (before, it was "oh I had to come up with something quick and couldn't check everything").

egeozcan··on Tsrs: A Port of TypeScript to Rust
I think we'll see TypeScript ported to minecraft ported to rust ported to typescript before GTA6.
egeozcan··on DeepSeek V4.1 Flash 1017 (Max)
I use only providers because I don't have the hardware, but if, and that's a big if, the only moat left for humans is our ability to steer and make bigger picture decisions with our personality, I think it makes sense not to want to send all that conversation data to a 3rd party.
egeozcan··on DeepSeek-v4.1-Flash-1017
That's the total cost of a task across all models. DeepSeek going above 2-3 dollars is actually rare because of the very low cache costs.
egeozcan··on DeepSeek-v4.1-Flash-1017
I use Opus for planning, through API on medium thinking, it doesn't cost anything significant and the rest can be happily done with deepseek or glm flash. Using sol 6.1 for review loops at the end. All running on pi.

A very complex task tends to cost like 10$ max. It's comparable to a subscription with enormous flexibility.

It's a steal.

egeozcan··on Thank You, Deno
Thank you deno!

You are added to the list of projects I thought would really become essential to my work but slowly faded away. Another one, for example is rethinkdb.

At least Deno actually caused some movement in the node world, just like io.js.
