eliaspro··on Stalwart v1.0: The Fastest Mail Server on the Planet
Just yesterday I bought an enterprise license for my personal use because I felt like supporting a project that's doing many things just right!

Stalwart is a really impressive piece of software.

eliaspro··on Why Sweden is abandoning its cashless society
Usually, tap to pay triggers randomized PIN requests too, which is even worse for elderly - entering a PIN only once every 100 transactions than every time.
eliaspro··on I asked Meta’s Muse for its filesystem and it sent me 6.8GB
The fundamental issue is, that "we" somehow decided it would be a good idea to throw all the fundamental ideas of computing (determinism, context, separation between data and execution,...) away and try to solve the issues by running a probabilistic/stochastic word generator on top of deterministic circuits instead at 10 magnitude worse efficiency.
eliaspro··on Show HN: Ax-check.com – Can agents use your product?
Which then again should provide me a detectable behavioral pattern, sufficient for an IP-ban.
eliaspro··on Show HN: Ax-check.com – Can agents use your product?
Nice! This should help in making my stuff as inaccessible as possible to agents.
eliaspro··on Jemalloc 5.4.0
"Yes, it is written systemd, not system D or System D, or even SystemD. And it isn't system d either. Why? Because it's a system daemon, and under Unix/Linux those are in lower case, and get suffixed with a lower case d."

eliaspro··on Worst-case glacial lake flood scenarios in a transboundary Himalayan basin 2022
In Germany we just rebuild everything in an area (Ahrtal) devastated by one of the worst floods in local history...
eliaspro··on Record heat is drying up Europe's major rivers, as these striking images show
Ships in European rivers are usually not container ships, but bulk carriers, for which the number "1 ship == 100 trucks" is roughly right AFAIK.

But around half of those bulk carriers are transporting fossil fuels, so while they suffer under the climate crisis-induced drought, many of them are contributors to their own (and our collective) problems.

It sucks for those transporting essential, not climate-destroying goods, but when it comes to the other ones, I just hope it helps to speed up independence from fossil fuels.

eliaspro··on LEDs’ potential to save our night skies
OK, looks like I misunderstood what you were trying to say.

Therefore I fully agree with you!

eliaspro··on LEDs’ potential to save our night skies
This is not only about being able to see a nice night sky (although I admit I love seeing one), it's a very much more fundamental issue.

Light pollution has dramatic negative consequences for wildlife and thereby our ecosystem we so heavily depend upon.

eliaspro··on StreetComplete: Fixing OpenStreetMap, one tiny quest at a time
Feel free to unclutter your view by disabling quests you don't want to answer in the settings, maybe just start with only 3-4 very basic ones.
eliaspro··on Nearly half of LG smart TV apps contain residential proxy SDKs
Via KDE Connect, you can also use your smartphone as touchpad to control the cursor or to act as remote keyboard.

eliaspro··on A scoping review of bicycling interventions’ impacts on well-being
If they had proper infrastructure, they wouldn't have to choose between "being cars or pedestrians", they could simply be cyclists.
eliaspro··on New York to tax luxury second homes in NYC
Among a few ultrarich which amplify their voices by screaming through their media mouthpieces to make them sound like they're of any importance to society, from which they leech their wealth in the first place.
eliaspro··on HDMI 2.1 Display Stream Compression (DSC) Ready for Amdgpu Linux Driver
But wouldn't this break the HDCP chain and therefore render many use-cases (playback of DRM-protected streams) broken?
eliaspro··on PyInfra 3.8.0
I wouldn't call it heavy, but more complex instead. Salt is astonishingly lightweight (at least before they started vendoring everything and I stopped using it) and extremely fast - due to its execution model it doesn't really matter whether you target 10 or 10000 nodes with a job.

eliaspro··on OpenGridWorks: Electricity infrastructure, mapped
Thank you!
eliaspro··on OpenGridWorks: Electricity infrastructure, mapped
I could've sworn it wasn't there before - but maybe I also just missed it since it is covered by the half-transparent panel (on mobile) and all the other stuff around it distracted me.
eliaspro··on OpenGridWorks: The Electricity Infrasctructure, Mapped
The map uses OpenStreetMap as data source.

If you're not using the OSM API, there are also full exports of the complete dataset available at https://planet.openstreetmap.org/

eliaspro··on OpenGridWorks: Electricity infrastructure, mapped
The map is missing a proper attribution as it is required by OpenStreetMap when using the project's data: https://www.openstreetmap.org/copyright/attribution-guide/
eliaspro··on Obsession with growth is destroying nature, 150 countries warn
It's not so much about which countries actually grow that much right now, but which mindset underpins the political and medial discourse, trying to get those countries "back on track for continuous growth" or whether there's some realization, that infinite growth as fundamental principle just isn't what we all should be aiming for anymore.
eliaspro··on Easy-to-use solar panels are coming, but utilities are trying to delay them
This won't simply dump power into the grid (unless the used inverter would violate codes right and left), since those inverters need to sync to the grid first before allowing for any output. So if the grid is down - nothing will happen.
eliaspro··on Mount Mayhem at Netflix: Scaling Containers on Modern CPUs
grahamc wrote down how to optimize this (within the constraints of max 128 layers supported by OCI) to categorize/prioritize packages by popularity/dependencies which lead to dramatic speed-ups for pulling updates or related images.

eliaspro··on GNU Pies – Program Invocation and Execution Supervisor
systemd is not a monolith.

It's a collection of losely coupled components and services of which basically every single one can be disabled or replaced by another implementation.

eliaspro··on EU countries green light Mercosur free trade deal
There's a huge difference between checking packages addressed to individuals vs checking bulk goods.
eliaspro··on Show HN: Automated license plate reader coverage in the USA
Small nitpick: you're writing OpenStreetMaps instead of OpenStreetMap (no trailing s) everywhere.
eliaspro··on Terranova is lifting land out of flood zones using terraforming robots
Because then there's no VC money to be made. It needs at least robots. And I bet they were better off, if those robots were "smart" and AI-powered!
