esikich··on Ask HN: What in the world is taking Ubuntu so long?
Nothing really. Ubuntu is just a wrapper around Debian. If you are familiar with Ubuntu, it's basically exactly the same.
esikich··on Ask HN: What in the world is taking Ubuntu so long?
I switched back to Debian.
esikich··on Residential proxies detected on White House network
There's nothing in the article that suggests it's not just the guest wifi. Which wouldn't be monitored. Why would you? The whole point is that it's segmented and can't actually interact with anything important.
esikich··on Guerrilla bike lanes: San Francisco makes illicit infrastructure permanent (2016)
Have you ever heard of the sprawling Midwest?
esikich··on Guerrilla bike lanes: San Francisco makes illicit infrastructure permanent (2016)
No one wants to. Great plan you have.
esikich··on Guerrilla bike lanes: San Francisco makes illicit infrastructure permanent (2016)
Not everywhere is San Francisco. Where I live, it's below freezing almost half the year. No one wants to add bike lanes that will only get lightly used 3 months a year.
esikich··on Distinct cellular and genetic differences in colorectal cancer in young patients
If you took that as an insult, you are the toxic one. Ew.
esikich··on OpenAI seems to be silently re-enabling model training on Codex chats
They already do. Outside of tiny companies the norm is block all AI across the board if they have the IT staff that knows how. From what I've seen, large enterprise companies are still testing the waters outside of dev/IT use.
esikich··on Resisting Cognitive Surrender
It's funny that I'm reading this while rewatching Chernobyl. Never underestimate the ability of bureaucracy to completely fuck things up.
esikich··on Show HN: NES Contra (1987) port (ASM –> C and then C –> WebAssembly)
I'm so glad that things being hard has never been connected to my self worth. Maybe someday you'll be able to enjoy just playing with technology rather than using it to prove how verysmart you are. Work smarter not harder.
esikich··on Show HN: NES Contra (1987) port (ASM –> C and then C –> WebAssembly)
Yep. Fire up a new project, give it the two ROMs and the emulator to use and tell it what you what. I had to guide it a little bit about the sprite size and collison logic, but it was extremely painless.
esikich··on Show HN: NES Contra (1987) port (ASM –> C and then C –> WebAssembly)
100% AI I'm sure. I played around with this kind of thing a month or so ago and Codex had no problems mashing games up from just the ROMs. In about 30 minutes I had the contra guys running through SMB 1 shooting enemies.
esikich··on Azure's Weakest Link – Five Full Cross-Tenant Compromises
Yes, it's triage. They do the basic steps, get relevant info, and try to figure out the right team to send it to. This is how support everywhere works.
esikich··on Azure's Weakest Link – Five Full Cross-Tenant Compromises
What do you mean "even get attention from someone"? Enterprise contracts have support included. You can get an engineer on the phone within 24 hours. As long as you are competent enough to answer their questions, their support has been fairly good in my experience.
esikich··on We ran AI agent swarms in Minecraft and Mindustry
Codingame.com has a few fun arenas.
esikich··on DoorDash to acquire Instacart
It took 15 minutes.
esikich··on DoorDash to acquire Instacart
Yes.
esikich··on DoorDash to acquire Instacart
I just paid $20 for a $15 McDonald's order with the annual subscription. It all depends on the restaurant too. I also haven't gone grocery shopping since 2020.

I literally order from all of those companies as do 10s of millions of people if not more.

esikich··on Claude Code regularly sends each background agent’s transcript to its model
You're telling us there are frequent scheduled summary calls to agents that burns tokens like this is common knowledge. Is it? And is this documented somewhere?
esikich··on What Is Gridifcation
Parents want a nice recording of their kids because they've been paying to rent their instruments. This isn't some profound type of artistic expression.
esikich··on Kentucky man becomes the first humanist granted religious exemption from AI
We all seemed fine with machines replacing telephone operators and spreadsheets replacing computers (the people).
esikich··on Google AI gets cagey when asked who won the 2020 elections
I asked multiple different ways and it said Joe Biden every time.
esikich··on Kentucky man becomes the first humanist granted religious exemption from AI
Sure, be less productive, see how that works out for you. Your attitude in 2026 is crazy to me. Maybe you're just using chat, I don't know, but it saves me hours daily and saves my brainpower for situations that truly need it. Work smarter, not harder.
esikich··on Evidence of a spying operation by ICE against left-wing social movements
Family. Imagine if the state next to yours was no longer the US.
esikich··on US agency approves Amazon Leo’s $11.5B acquisition of Globalstar
Maybe you're not aware, but if you notice people pulling away from you in conversation or it's difficult for you to maintain longterm, deep, relationships, it might be partly because of the way you express yourself. And it probably comes from a good place, you might just want to warn people to not go through whatever bad experience you had. But it is a very one way type of communication. It doesn't allow anybody except those that agree. But those that agree won't agree on some other big statement and you'll still resent each other.

Just something to think about as you navigate the challenges of social interactions. The best to you.

esikich··on Evidence of a spying operation by ICE against left-wing social movements
The point is that families didn't just evacuate when it turned into US territory. There are very strong ties to Mexico in the southwest that will never go away.
esikich··on Evidence of a spying operation by ICE against left-wing social movements
It's almost as if the entire southwest used to be Mexico.
esikich··on An examination of lost firefly species of the US and Canada
It's native. Just considered "icky".
esikich··on US agency approves Amazon Leo’s $11.5B acquisition of Globalstar
Do you have experience in satellite Internet? I do, and he's not wrong. Your snarky comment is off topic and isn't adding anything here, imo.
esikich··on An examination of lost firefly species of the US and Canada
That's easy to say but anyone with a lawn is typically bound by local ordinances. I don't even live in a particularly nice area and I got a warning citation for some cool looking thistle I decided to let grow this year.
