etcetcetcetceta··on Palestine Action Supreme Court Hearing Day 1
I think you're remarkably naive if you came to that conclusion from what I've said, or you want to ignore/downplay the reality of it. There is abundant documentary evidence of these individuals calling for the death of jews, or the persecution of jews, openly in the streets of London. There has been a significant and objective rise in the number of antisemitic attacks here.

Not antizionist, openly antisemitic, are you looking to excuse the latter by means of the former, or blur the lines between the two such that the latter is acceptable.

Criticism of Israel is not inherently antisemitic and is fine, but this is not that.

I didn't say it was did I?

But backtracking on this will be perceived as sanctioning antisemites and antisemitic beliefs, the UK has had worsening antisemitism especially within the ranks of the PA and those they choose to align themselves with publicly.

etcetcetcetceta··on Why Don't We Live in an Art Nouveau World?
we've reached meta-ornamentation, our structures can now do without their own adornments as they themselves become ornamentation for a city, there is no shortage of striking and breathtaking architecture, but it is certainly true that modern low density residential leaves much to be desired, and that it is a great shame that we have left the 1830s-1930s so far behind.

I find it all the more disturbing that a patronymic surname has become a forename.

Counter point: the (super) yacht industry employs a huge number of skilled workers who take immense pride in their craft (pun intended).

this is principally why banking exists at all, farmers needed to borrow against a harvest that hadn't yet been planted.

I'd suggest some controls or limits to it, but the lenders assume the risk ( except for all the times the public has had to bail them out) and they're grown up corporations who can decide for themselves.

I should add, that the money they borrow does get taxed when it is spent on the indulgences you make reference to.

Writer doesn't appear to know the difference between income and wealth.

Every year there are fewer povvos in the world, and we're just getting started.

Tax on wealth - or in reality tax on unrealised gains is absurd, it's a tax on a cat in a box.
etcetcetcetceta··on Websites Should Be Printable
Printable does not mean it will be printed, if a page is printable one can assume the creator hasn't fucked with the scroll wheel for example, or forced you to sit through unnecessary animations.

I think you can generate html from latex, I use latex for my CV and render it as a pdf for circulation.

I had a quick browse and found some mispronunciations on there.

my kids have a personal music/story player (Yoto portable for those curious, it can be loaded with your own recordings if the cost of the licenced cards is too much).

The big one (5) has a camera, we also play guessing games (like the classic "animal, vegetable, or mineral" but usually specific to their interests such as animal, instrument, etc).

They both like books and will sit with them for upto an hour uninterrupted despite the younger one's inability to read.

After that, a switch, or a heavily curated selection of videos might be available.

I think screens are fine in moderation, almost all parents do it, but it's far from the only option.

etcetcetcetceta··on Birdwatching rewires the brain and slows cognitive decline
look, look! A millenial father observing bird species in an effort to stave off cognitive decline, rarely seen away from his burrow and demanding offspring, we can see from its markings that this one was once a hipster, note the foliage pattern about it's left radiocarpal.

I would say the quality might be high for an american car but here in europe it's absolute dogshit tier.

etcetcetcetceta··on Apple broke an essential presentation feature of iPads
if I could have macos on an ipad pro I'd stop using my macbook forever, it would be the perfect device, until then it's just a big phone, and since I replaced my iphone with a watch I don't need either pad or phone.

I suppose the very reason why we haven't seen ads yet is that they're trying to figure out how to prevent exactly this.

most people's exposure to philosophical concepts is through narrative abstraction, you may be an exception but if you want to interact with laypeople this is inevitably going to be your experience.
etcetcetcetceta··on The Brain Sandwich
the latter only exists because of this misunderstanding.

Besides don't most people refer to the croissant in substitute for sandwich "ham and cheese croissant"?

etcetcetcetceta··on The Brain Sandwich
>Your brain, and then

>AI, and then

>Your brain

I'm sorry but this is not a "brain sandwich" this is an ai sandwich...when a slice of ham is between two slices of bread do we call it a "bread sandwich"?

etcetcetcetceta··on Software engineers don't get to be Luddites about AI
I'm not sure what industry you're in but professionally when we talk about one instrument's relationship to an underlying asset we describe it as tracking or following it, even if that tracking/following is some function of the underlying rather than a direct linear relationship, rarely in life is anything directly proportional.

"Kept pace with" is fine, consider using this in future.

etcetcetcetceta··on Suicide rates highest ever among middle-aged men
true but the pieces we value are also being pried from our hands.

I also don't think it compares to the industrial revolution, these are primarily sociological conditions - these suicidality figures predate the current AI implications.

etcetcetcetceta··on Suicide rates highest ever among middle-aged men
those things are evidence of that societal pressure relaxing...they simply weren't an option before.
etcetcetcetceta··on Software engineers don't get to be Luddites about AI
on the contrary "not tracking" implies no relationship.
etcetcetcetceta··on Software engineers don't get to be Luddites about AI
2. They have, there just isn't a linear relationship, which should've been obvious from the start.
etcetcetcetceta··on AI is a tool and using it well takes skill
I have and the guy you're replying to is correct.

If you find yourself in that position it's a skill issue, or a job issue.

etcetcetcetceta··on Secret of Orange Cats Revealed After 60-Year Search
I agree but I don't think it's related to prejudice against redheaded humans, wrt the cats I think it's some sort of confirmation bias.

etcetcetcetceta··on Why were Victorian elites so effective?
there's nothing wrong with indirect rule, everyone benefitted in the long run.
etcetcetcetceta··on Why were Victorian elites so effective?
>Some of that is unavoidable tragedy, but quite a lot of it is direct mismanagement (especially fervent devotion to a "work sets you free" mindset and free market capitalism).

It was all going so well until you spewed propaganda, believe it not the provinces administered by the British were least affected by disease and famine primarily because of the infrastructure and institutions that'd been established in them. Additionally, we have a better insight into those regions because of the record keeping again introduced by the bureaucracy forced upon them...
