explodes··on Flock cameras spread through government deals that bypassed public scrutiny
Could it be related to politicians and police officials incentivized by the contractor payments from the Public Safety Strategies Group?
explodes··on Show HN: Gemini 4 Argon plays StarCraft
The video shows GLM but it's not in any graphs. Are there more complete charts anywhere else? Ones that include the 45 LLMs?
explodes··on Rusty thoughts on "Parse, don't validate"
Thanks. This had me thinking to myself some. I found this https://cliffle.com/blog/rust-typestate/ too, which others may find useful..

Limit the codepoint to the number of atoms in the universe (less than 32 bytes).
explodes··on Learning another language may be one of the best ways to keep your brain healthy
Learning over Zoom with a real person using a service like Fiverr or something was a great way for my wife and I to start learning Indonesian.

Learning sign language was lots of fun in VRC with actual people. I'm actually going to visit a friend I made doing this, in his country, this weekend.

They are coroutine state machines in rust and kotlin, and perhaps others.
explodes··on Running out of money': Kraft, McDonald's, Whirlpool CEOs flag consumer concern
> The company behind brands like Heinz, Kraft and Philadelphia is now cutting prices (2) on some products that have grown too expensive, increasing promotions and rolling out smaller package sizes at lower price points.

This reads as if they've found an approximate limit to shrinkflation and need to back pedal a little bit? However buying smaller packages more frequently is surely, ultimately, more expensive anyway.

Not to mention results in more plastic use per ketchup used, or whatever, on top of it all.

explodes··on Students prefer Gemini over ChatGPT and Claude for AI essays in blind tests
My settings are similar. I also added to be very concise without losing important information. It's output is so slim now that I can ask yes or no questions. Asking for a code snippet gives me just a snippet without an accompanying paragraph of explanation that I would just ignore anyway. Of course I can still ask follow up questions, but it gets right to the point. No filler is a dream.

explodes··on GPU Offload in Rust: Portable, Safe, and Fast
The onus isn't on them to correct your incorrect generalizations. It is on you as a person to guide yourself. You can do it, I believe in you.
explodes··on Flock updates privacy, accountability, security, and transparency safeguards
I mean, you wouldn't mind if I followed you everywhere then, right? And waiting outside your home when you're inside. They call that stalking. Doing that systematically to everybody doesn't make it ok.

Plainly, I think it makes sense to not be constantly in view of a single entity when in public.

explodes··on Flock updates privacy, accountability, security, and transparency safeguards
> More than one-third of our customers have voluntarily adopted Audit Assistance.

Looks like they don't actually give a shit. These safeguards should be the required bare minimum.

explodes··on How Did Rogue Generate Its Random Dungeons?
Qud is legit incredible. Compared to nethack and ADOM, it might be considered "easy", as I've never beaten those two, but have finished Qud a few times. It is still a really deep game.

Hah! Useful for me today, to get rid of some hacks. Good stuff FFmpeg. It truly continues to be a pillar supporting the world in so many ways.

It's an ad to spend more money for your pixel, and not an ad for 3rd party services, but will it stop here?
explodes··on On Strings in Rust
This is great, thorough, and taught me a lot about Rust and not just it's Strings.

One nit is to explain what the hell the lightning bolts mean in your code samples. I interpreted it as the assertions failed and got really mixed up when reading half way down the page.

Actually, I'm still confused, and on mobile. > The potentially surprising thing here is that the resulting string is "WÖRLD", instead of "WöRLD". > ... > Since we cannot change which memory location the slice spans, ..., we can generally not perform this operation.

These seem to conflict. Maybe a typo. Maybe it's me. Maybe it's maybelline.

explodes··on Oh-my-pi: A coding agent with the IDE wired in
Benn trying this out instead of open code with Z.ai and it was dead simple to start. I've had a generally positive experience so far. It feels like a power-user edition of a TUI agent, yet to get up and running didn't require any tweaks beyond setting a model to use.
explodes··on Oh-my-pi: A coding agent with the IDE wired in
For macos, the mention of a brew installation is pretty a dead giveaway. Right under the headline.
explodes··on US Supreme Court rules geofence warrants require constitutional protections
From what I've been able to research on the good faith exception, it's not in the Constitution but the Supreme Court first outlined this exception in the landmark 1984 case United States v. Leon .
explodes··on Flock cameras track more than your license plate, and they're spreading fast
There is a difference between one or even twenty pictures being taken of you, and hundreds or thousands of pictures. One is "public privacy" and the other is "dragnet stalking".
explodes··on Flock cameras track more than your license plate, and they're spreading fast
An individual setting up a network of 200-400 cameras throughout a city would not be lega because of property usage I would assume. Not necessarily because of the recording. A llone person doing this would definitely raise more eyebrows.
explodes··on Flock cameras track more than your license plate, and they're spreading fast
How many people here are YC people? Using Google doesn't make you a Google employee.
explodes··on window.showDirectoryPicker opens up a whole new world
Looks like these safeguards are in place:

* System and root directories cannot be selected. * Can only being activated after user action. * Requires https. * Double-confirmation for write access.

No API like this could ever be bulletproof, but it's a start I guess.

Very cool API though, and it really does open up a whole new world of possibilities.

explodes··on window.showDirectoryPicker opens up a whole new world
First time I've heard about this. I'll have to look into the security model around it. I'm curious what safeguards are in place to prevent click jacking. I know showing a file picker """should""" be enough of a warning to users to be careful, but it's not hard to imagine a world where a couple of fish accidentally bite the bait of an allow-button, or because they followed instructions they incorrectly trusted.
