fmbb··on Emacs Turns 50
Erlang the runtime sure. But Emacs is an application with these properties. There is no editor like Emacs for Erlang (some small clones I am sure) and no other user application utilizing this feature.

Smalltalk is a development environment and an applications platform. The development tools are as extensible and user customizable as Emacs. And like Erlang it is also a runtime you can package software for. Any GUI or server software. For Emacs you can probably do the same, but I’m not convince many users would find the GUI familiar.

fmbb··on Getting ready to operate GNU Taler in Germany
You seem to be conflating price increases with the money supply increasing.
fmbb··on Getting ready to operate GNU Taler in Germany
That incentives not participating in the economy instead of participating in the economy.

I already started manufacturing 100 shipping containers of left pad machines. Taking orders.
fmbb··on How to make System 1 LLMs show System 2 competencies?
I have never heard of ”System 1” and ”System 2” thinking before.

Wikipedia implies it’s just some pop-sci (psychology even, so extra pop) book from a few years ago. A book heavily criticized for relying on shoddy science. Why are the terms used to describe anything by anyone trying to sound serious or scientific?

fmbb··on I love software rendering
The author likes the look of the tradeoff made due to the limitations CPU power imposed on the rendering model for real time 3D games 30 years ago.

Yeah you can hack configurations or create your own game to mimic this look.

If you read the post you will see it’s not only about the texture sampling, but also the color depth.

OP picked a good headline. You are fighting for semantics nobody cares about, and picking a more complicated synecdoche.

Yeah hopefully there is a bug. But negligence causing troubles for users due to useless anti features is not much better.
fmbb··on Turn off Apple Intelligence on macOS 27 and get its disk space back
Disk space is there to be used.

Are these files particularly hard to clean out if your disk is getting full and you need the space?

fmbb··on Micron CEO Says Memory Supply Will Be Much Tighter in 2027 and 2028 Than in 2026
Supply is severely limited and there is not really any competition making RAM chips, so it is kind of not a commodity and not a market.

But you are right someone will arbitrage the price, like scalpers selling concert tickets.

fmbb··on OpenAI breaches Medicare, Albanese reveals
From where are you getting this post-it note nonsense?

Media reported it as a spear phishing attack from a Russian hacker group: https://www.vice.com/en/article/how-hackers-broke-into-john-...

fmbb··on Did OpenAI solve the wrong Navier-Stokes problem?
Is it really impressive, or just kind of interesting?

If they spent about 10 GWh solving the problem (was it solved?) then that is much much more than 500 lifetimes of a human brain working.

fmbb··on Can we stop with the uptime percentages?
No lag time for popular services. Always faster than e.g. GitHub’s or Chat GPT’s status pages.

A ”software design” document does not optimize for either of those.
