frouge··on Apparently Google hates us now
I can even tell you that Google hates us all
frouge··on Skip is now free and open source
I'm interested in the subject but I've never heard about someone actually using Skip. Can someone share his experience, like how long it takes to get an Android app from a working iOS project. What kind of work is needed here?
frouge··on Roc Camera
To me it sounds like someone is trying to create a problem and sell it to me. Who needs to create images with proof of reality?
frouge··on I've been advocating for RSS support, and you should too
I agree that to succeed RSS must be properly managed right in the browser. The problem is that it was not properly implemented inside Firefox, so I personaly didn't want to use that system.

What I want is a simple counter that show how many new posts there are of the RSS, and that's it. I only click for new content.

Check out the Factory in horn of the abyss : https://heroes.thelazy.net/index.php/Factory
frouge··on Ask HN: What apps have you created for your own use?
I've created an app to quickly launch timers on my iPhone. I frequently use timers during my day: for tea, naps and for my morning routine, so constantly changing the duration on the default app became a pain. I created Enchant to be able to launch timers using iOS widgets or Siri, and it's really fast and fun to use :)

I've published the app a couple of month ago: https://apps.apple.com/app/enchant-amazing-timers/id64460937...

The hacker news title is also the opposite of everything we want: nothing to do with the article's title.

Which is: The first Android is 15 years old, and it is the opposite of everything we want in a smartphone today

frouge··on Google was founded 25 years ago today
It was dead the moment they let investors in
frouge··on Google no longer automatically indexes websites?
Yes, Google is an ad-engine
frouge··on Cloudguy says we should log out of Amazon
Put all your amazon devices into the garbage, trust me...one day you'll thank me :)
frouge··on Coworking from Home
In France a small startup named Cohome has tested the concept several years ago. It unfortunately didn't last long but the idea is great. I've had the chance to use it and it was very nice. The issue is that freelancers can't pay much on these kind of services as they often have limited means. The other issue I believe is that there are more people willing to go to someone's place than people willing to share their place.
frouge··on SpaceX's Texas Rocket Is Going to Cause a Lot More Damage Than Anyone Thinks
In case you missed it, there is a global climate emergency on planet Earth. Governments and agencies are letting it happen. So you can argue that they are doing their jobs and solving the problem as it's their job, but it's also possible that they're not doing it. And do you think Elon Musk will throw away millions in investments because of birds?
frouge··on This is the year of the RSS reader?
What we need to revive RSS is have a true integration into browsers. Your bookmarks would display the numbers of unread posts and there is probably more great stuff to do.
frouge··on Hi, hello, I’m back at it
Would you explain how was it transformative for you?
frouge··on Stadia died because no one trusts Google
This: "To be honest I would be relieved if they screwed up Gmail so badly that I had no choice but to switch"
frouge··on EU moving closer to Facebook ban
Fingers crossed!
frouge··on Entropy Is Fatal
And more complexity in laws and many more things increases inequalities in our society. The more stuff (i.e. laws) the more you need people (lawyers) to understand them, the more intelligent people you also need (i.e. cryptos). All this creating a larger gap between social classes.
frouge··on UST “Stablecoin” at $.43
ELI5 Why stable coin are a thing when I can trade bitcoins to USD?
frouge··on Things we did not do while reaching $2M ARR
We did not get humble
frouge··on The web starts on page four
Lucky you!
frouge··on The web starts on page four
Let's go back to the old glory of RSS.

I was so frustated to see Facebook/Twitter using the fundamentals of RSS to their advantage whereas everybody should have started to use RSS for the greater good.

frouge··on The web starts on page four
I've became so used to ignore useless stuff on pages that I sometimes don't even know what I came for originally. The modern web makes me totally mindless.
frouge··on Google Is Forcing Me to Dump a Perfectly Good Phone
There are many alternatives available for Google products but you gotta to look for them and take time to switch, it sure ain't easy but we gotta do it.
frouge··on Google Is Forcing Me to Dump a Perfectly Good Phone
Guys, we're all frequent readers of HN here and it's pretty clear Google is not a company that we can trust. Data privacy, product stoppage, advertisement collusion, their search engine becoming an ad engine, obsolescence, monopoly, we're talking about a company that collects huge fines every 6 months. There is nothing good in Google World, so please, let's all change the world together and stop using the services of inhuman companies.
frouge··on Twitter Home made me miserable
Twitter (social media) goals and your (our) needs won't ever be aligned you (we) should use something else.
frouge··on Building Generative Glitch Art Tools
I personally use Glitch Lab for Android that has a sick depth of use, loving it.
frouge··on RSS is wonderful
It didn't keep the unread counter of posts which is crucial for a good RSS experience
frouge··on RSS is wonderful
That's where I think browsers are failing us (slightly). For me the best way to use RSS would be directly along bookmarks. The browser would should next to the title the number of unread posts and that's it! That would be amazingly simple to use and efficient.
frouge··on Did iOS 15 kill Google AMP
I'm an AMP noob but why would someone block AMP pages?
frouge··on WhatsApp will progressively kill features until users accept new privacy policy
