Who cares
And it's infected the whole web so that even free blogs use the same voice
It feels good but you are still alone
It's never been a good thing, it's been a time sync and it's why birth rates are down, depression is up, loneliness is rampant, and everyone is addicted to narcissism machines
The lack of local community as everyone moves to a global gray sameness is the grossest thing to happen to this world.
Using it as a crutch to fool yourself into what you think is normal is not healthy and it's not a solution to real problems.
Omegle disappearing is neither surprising nor sad, and it's nothing personal against them specifically.
I expect to get down voted to oblivion because no one likes to hear harsh truths, but the internet has been a net negative for us all
He's not wrong
It's called my imagination...
The point being made is that your increased speed to market comes at a cost
Yes there are many applications that probably just don't need to exist but you can make a living cranking out
Not everyone should do any one thing all the time. But we have to be careful not to always discard hard work in favor of speed and convenience.
Jon Blow and Casey Muratori are reminding people to take responsibility for what we're doing. Learn how things work and be ambitious.
I know things are more complicated
You, however, need a mirror. Everything you just said is a wonderful display of willful ignorance. Your head in the sand does not protect you from the world
Big Tech, in 2023, is effectively a governmental body. I mean all 7 (or whatever) of the largest companies. They operate in a wildly anti-competitive and anti-free-market way, rivaling even the Railroad tycoons of a bygone era.
I'm not anti-corporation, but there needs to be some effort put into correcting this. It's not going to fix itself.
Our country would be a lot better off with a lot of small businesses rather than a few gigantic businesses.
I would like to see the government break up a lot of these mega corporations, but it's not a great solution
Our global economy just means overseas companies will buy them, or they will move offshore and compete where we can enforce anything
I don't have any answers, but I think we can all recognize something's not working here
I'm arguing it's destructive long-term by creating a Goliath no one can compete with
Or several Goliaths in this case
Consolidation leads to stagnation
Edit: However, I will concede that I think nuclear annihilation is more likely. So in that case you would be correct by accident
I'm not even anti-corporation, but to pretend everything is fine seems silly
That video and Casey Muratori's "The Thirty Million Line Problem" video
Similar theme, and really a call to action.
We, as an industry, need to fight entropy and chaos. Not through regulation or authoritarianism, just every one of us needs to take the responsibility and try to make things better
Edit: just a passing thought, I don't advocate for any of these ideas. Just complaining, I have no answers
There are two truths:
1. It is forbidden by law in many places (including the US).
2. They will get away with it regardless, in nearly every case. So often that practically speaking it's allowed
And it's not just a current events thing
The system sucks but this is how it works
They just want the fun of experimentation and a payday
And like that's fine whatever, live your life, but it's creating a really crappy feedback loop of monopolization and buy outs
It's a feature they aren't afraid of ignoring
They are stagnant because they outsource almost all real R&D to startups they can buy only after they've done the hard work of proving success
I know it's not a monopoly per se, but it's anti-competitive and there's too many walled gardens
You know...for our own good because we can't be trusted to read
