giarc··on Tesla Roadster
Imagine if he had just come out to introduce a common sense minivan, shipping in 2027 and lower cost than the Sienna and Odyssey. There are nearly half a million minivans sold every year, I wonder if Tesla could quickly take 30% of that market with regular Tesla look (not cyber punk style).
giarc··on Waymo in Toronto
You can see their planned locations on the map here https://waymo.com/

Includes St Louis, Chicago, Detroit, Pittsburg, Minneapolis etc.

giarc··on E Ink Kaleido 4
My kids have Clara's and they love them for graphic novels. They had b/w kobo's before but would never go back (unless they stopped reading graphic novels).
giarc··on Apple HomeView
I think it does/will? There's an image of it showing the Pluribus image an S1E1 listing. Unless that is acting as a remote for an Apple TV?
giarc··on Google Playground: Create and play custom games
They have updated the link now.

>Not available in your region Playground is expanding to more regions soon. In the meantime, you can explore other experiments today.

giarc··on Google Playground: Create and play custom games
For the main page or for the playground.google link?
giarc··on Mike Tomlin spent 12 years building a Minecraft city
One of his star players posted this in response.

For those without X, "we were tryna win super bowls and coach T was on minecraft building cities "

giarc··on Apple Pass Designer
Tim Horton's allows reward card in Apple Wallet, but not Scan And Pay (which gives rewards and pays for order at same time). I wonder if the addition of the payment creates a dynamic QR code controlled by the app, and therefore not allowed in Apple Wallet for some reason.

EDIT - I think this is the case. When I open and close my Scan and Pay QR code it is changing each time whereas my Reward only card (in Apple Wallet) is static. Must be due to security.

giarc··on Apple Pass Designer
That is really neat! I've made 3, however they are all grouped together in my Apple Wallet, even though they are completely separate. Any idea why?
giarc··on Apple Pass Designer
I have a few apps on my phone for which the only purpose is to open and bring up a barcode (ex. Tim Hortons Scan and Pay). I'd love to delete the app and only have an Apple Wallet thing.
giarc··on Dots: Always-on agents
The muse character is cute, muse the name is not.
giarc··on California farmers are struggling to sell grapes as demand for wine drops
Yes, but many of those wineries import their grapes from California (or other places). My wife and I participate in this boycott and were drinking a sparkling white from Mission Hill Winery which is one of the biggest BC wineries. We noticed the label said something like "Produced in Canada" and then listed grapes imported from California.

Wines that are produced from 100% BC grapes are labelled "BC VQA" and only 19% of the wines in BC are BC VQA.

giarc··on Meta Blocks President Lula's Facebook Page, Campaign Ads 2 Weeks from Election
"created a pro russian candidate from thin air 2 weeks before the election"

The way you phrased this made it seem like the candidate didn't exist. The candidate was a real person, but just wasn't well known or polling very well before winning.

giarc··on I'm the mom in that viral Giants clip. Let me tell you about my husband
I was thinking of this recently. I "dogsit" for many families and had one recently that wasn't great on leash. She would do this thing where she would lay down and try to eat something off the ground (sticks, garbage, animal/dog poop, dead mice, dead birds... whatever she could find). Much of it would likely make her sick and therefore I would have to quickly pull on the leash to prevent her from eating some random thing she found. Being an 80lbs dog, I had to tug quite hard to quickly get her away from whatever she had found. If someone saw me in that moment, they'd probably think I was a terrible dog owner. Without the context that I was actually trying to prevent harm, someone could take a video, post online with the caption "Identify this dog abuser!" and ruin my reputation.

Toggle the Geothermal Heat Flow button in top right and you'll see why.
giarc··on Montreal adopts bylaw banning insults against police, municipal employees
I think these are the key sentences in that article (below). This bylaw is probably targeted toward citizens that come in and berate staff because they find out they have an unpaid parking ticket from 2 years ago that they have to pay before renewing their license (for example).

>The new Montreal bylaw would ban insults, harassment, threats, abuse and intimidation, as well as offensive and aggressive behaviour.

>It also includes provisions saying city employees could refuse to provide services to someone who misbehaves. However, the bylaw doesn't define what could be construed as an insult.

giarc··on AI-generated posters don’t have to be horrible
>If the sign was simple Comic Sans

I remember the days when people would make fun of a sign like that. Then people would make fun of Wordart, then Canva. It appears that unless you spend $1500 on a graphic designer to create your poster, people will shit on your effort.

giarc··on Astra for Law
>are pretty good at surfacing some stuff without having to pay lawyers

They are also really good at making stuff up as evidenced by the many, many, many examples you read in the news about actual lawyers using AI to write briefs that are full of errors and hallucinations.

In civil courts, you'd likely get more sympathy from a judge if you represented yourself and admitted your lack of understanding, rather than try to appear as someone you're not because you wrote some prompts and copied the output.

giarc··on iPhone Duo
Well when you put it that way, it doesn't sound so bad (somewhat tongue in cheek). In all honesty though, when you look at usage patterns, paying $2000 for something that many people use 5+ hours a day, it almost seems cheap.
giarc··on 'You Can See Everything' Review: Nathan Fielder's Doc About Elizabeth Holmes
Read the article then.
giarc··on 'You Can See Everything' Review: Nathan Fielder's Doc About Elizabeth Holmes
If you read the article, you'll see that they do have someone else play her in the second half. But that's kind of by design...?
giarc··on Doomscrolling ourselves to death
9 and 12. They've been reading like this since the day they could read. My wife wants to keep pushing my older daughter away from graphic novels (to regular novels) but to me, doesn't matter what they read, as long as they are reading.
giarc··on Household Laser Cuts
Can you not just cut a 1" square, measure it accurately then use that as the kerf correction (option to add in software like Lightburn).
giarc··on Doomscrolling ourselves to death
Here's my n of 2 story, but my young kids read all the time and it's likely for two reasons. My wife and I read, and still read to them every night, and second, they both have Kobo Clara Colour e-readers. They love graphic novels and the colour screen keeps them engaged (we had black and white e-readers before and it just wasn't the same). We get 100% of our books from the public library and they probably read 5-20 graphic novels a week. Best $120 investment we've made.
giarc··on Mom gets 6-month suspended sentence for letting 5-year-old walk to the pond
I understand ponds can be dangerous, and every year kids drown in various bodies of water, but you're probably more likely to get hurt by a vehicle crossing the road... so should the limit be "the road". Can the destination change the verdict?

giarc··on U.S. State Department pauses immigrant visa applications
Podcaster Scott Galloway puts it best. The US is like a sports team that gets to draft the best players in the world and yet they are doing their best to stop that. Top talent from almost every country wants to come live and work in the US, producing incredible companies and advancing tech. But because most of them are not-white, the US wants to stop that.
giarc··on Microduck
Or can it dock itself on a charger?

It appears to have a battery pack so a docking station is unlikely but hopefully can design and open source something.

giarc··on Oceans hit highest temperature on record
I fell in the same trap "So it'll be 25C in summer instead of 23C!". Sometimes it's small things that make you realize how small changes make big impacts. For example, I was watching a documentary about caribou in Northern Canada. A whole herd starved and died because of a slight warming during winter. Normally they dig through the snow to find food in the winter. But a slight warming meant the snow fell as freezing rain and left a thick layer of ice on top of the snow. The caribou couldn't dig through it and therefore couldn't eat and they died. A tiny change in temperature wiped out a huge colony.
giarc··on Canada will match US tariffs 'dollar for dollar' as trade talks break down
Motor vehicles is funny - tariff the vehicles owned by American companies (GM, Ford, Stellantis). I wonder how the CEOs of those companies react or communicate with the White House their feelings on this.
