golyi··on GOG is getting acquired by its original co-founder
Awesome news really, I've bought countless games from GOG (more than Steam I think at this point) and it's a company I'll always support. Great business decision.
golyi··on Examples are the best documentation
They're not mutually exclusive you know, you can have both example and a proper technical doc.
golyi··on All New Java Language Features Since Java 21
var was introduced in Java 10 not 8.
golyi··on Delta moves to eliminate set prices, use AI to set your personal ticket price
Nice, another reason to avoid this company.
golyi··on “The Traitors”, a reality TV show, offers a useful economics lesson
Just wanted to thank you for the reccomendation, the premise looks extremely interesting.
golyi··on Riven
What a game, the main puzzle which tied all the islands you've visited throughout the story is one of the best in terms of game design, hard as nails too!
golyi··on Design better software abstractions using bipartite composition (2019)
This feels unnecessarily fragmented and complex.

Sorry don't see the benefits of designing your classes in this fashion.

golyi··on How a massacre of Algerians in Paris was covered up
Absolutely awful. I would also recommend watching Caché, the excellent Michael Haneke film which adresses this horrible episode. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cach%C3%A9_(film)
golyi··on The Dig
The art direction of this game is incredible, puzzles were tough though.
golyi··on Ask HN: Have any of you had a similar experience at a startup?
The only valid advice here is 'lawyer the fuck up'.
golyi··on My mindfulness practice led me to meltdown
I believe a lot of people are doing meditation in a similar way as they would do a workout session and it simply doesn't work. It's supposed to be your time off and enjoyable. I've seen a lot of starters that are extremely focused on doing at least 30 mins a day, and it's just incredibly hard. Start small, start with whatever you're confortable with, it could be a minute for all it's worth and increase progressively but make sure that that minute is mindful.
golyi··on Game Programming Patterns (2014)
I love this book and will not only will it help you for game development, but all software engineering in general. Highly recommended.
golyi··on The Mortgaging of Sierra Online
Agreed. I have been revisiting a lot of these old school adventure games and even playing them in their entirety through ScummVM for Android. Haven't had that much luck with ResidualVM which tries to emulate 3D adventure games like Grim Fandango and Escape from Monkey Island, here's hoping they get it to a more stable state.
