heedlessly2··on Costco gained a cult following by breaking every rule of retail
It's probably similar to PlanetFitness.

People get the Costco membership but barely go to it because Walmart or Kroger is closer.

Plus some companies buy loads of Costco membership for employee benefit.

heedlessly2··on College Students Just Want Normal Libraries
Sounds like the ugli at umich
heedlessly2··on Women are struggling to find men who make as much money as they do
There are also a good amount of men who make lots of money. However, they are not attractive. They might by chubby, scrawny, bad hygiene, and don't dress well.
heedlessly2··on Women are struggling to find men who make as much money as they do
The problem is that women who make a good amount of money cannot always land a man who is financially successful.

A 30 year old man with a good career and assets will try to date the 23 year old who looks like a fitness model. That's not to say women who make money cannot look like fitness models. There are just few of them because time is a limited resource.

The other part is that men are not on a certain timeline. A man can could spend his 30s and 20s casually dating, then get married at 45 and have kids. Whereas women try to get married before 30, so then she can have a kid or two before it's too late. Sure 35 year old women can get pregnant, but it's common to have miscarriages at that age.

heedlessly2··on The Highest Suicide Rate in the World
My guess is that during the summer and spring, you see other people outdoor enjoying activities. If you are a lonely person, this can be discouraging that everyone around is having fun but you're not.

In the fall and winter, you have an excuse to stay in. Everybody else is doing the same, so you're not missing out on much.

Plus part of it is academic. For k-12 and university, you see your 'friends' and 'acquaintances' very often. During the non-academic season, you don't see people as much which can be isolating.

Plus summer and spring, has the expectation of "you're supposed to be happy". So if you're not, then this can be devastating. Winter everybody has this "we're all in this gloomy mood together".

heedlessly2··on A recent study of Harvard’s admissions practices
If I am a child of a Harvard administrative staff member, then I have an advantage when getting into Harvard. So that would not be a merit advantage. That's just called luck.

Here's the big difference between the upper-class kids and everyone below when it comes to admission's fairness.

Everyone else says "I worked hard as an individual, therefore i deserve to get into a good college."

Upper-class kids says "MY FAMILY worked hard, therefore i (as an individual) deserve to get into a good college."

The emphasis is WHO worked hard. Upper-class kids tend to ride on the coat-tails of their parents and grand-parents.

heedlessly2··on Bike crash left Spokane man unconscious, so his Apple Watch called 911
My girlfriend has an Apple Watch. We wrestle and practice jiu-jitsu in bed sometimes. When I was squeezing her wrists, the watch buzzed and asked if she wanted to call 911.
heedlessly2··on Where you are born is more predictive of your future than any other factor
This is partially why some parents put their kids in private schools. Because their classmates will become other important figures in life. Plus soccer moms can mingle with the other wealthy parents as a networking tactic.
heedlessly2··on Investigators who know you’ve faked your death
Anne Darwin only received half the life insurance money because no body was found. But a death certificate was issued
heedlessly2··on Palantir forced out of job fair after outcry over ICE contracts
Sounds like a PR stunt by this this organization holding the career fair. They knew what they were getting themselves into when they accepted Palantir's money to hold a table their. This ICE reputation by Palantir isn't some new revelation.

if I took money from Trump, am I going pretend to act shocked when he did something controversial? No, I knew the whole time

heedlessly2··on 15 states are trying to make the electoral college obselete
No, at the end of the day. People are humans and are affected by face-to-face interactions. Communication via television and internet feels impersonal. When a candidate visits your city, they discuss how your local and state politics tie together. So candidates can personalize their speeches towards a specific region per visit. Some people might not care about this, but many others will
heedlessly2··on Facebook lost more than Tesla's market cap
Facebook is good for loosely connecting with acquaintances.

But for real friends, you will always keep in contact no matter the medium.

heedlessly2··on Facebook lost more than Tesla's market cap
for Facebook to really die, the users will need to move to something else.

They need to move toward Snapchat in droves or another social media alternative.

MySpace died because of Facebook.

Digg died because of Reddit.

AOL died because of ATT, Verizon, Comcast, TWC/Charter, etc..

heedlessly2··on Facebook lost more than Tesla's market cap
Travis Kalanick resigned because his mother had recently died. The media frenzy was just noise.

heedlessly2··on Guide to Slack import and export tools

heedlessly2··on Self-driving Uber car kills Arizona woman crossing street
Homeless people tend to be in poor mental health and possibly under the influence of drugs/alcohol. All 3 of these things can contribute to bad judgement when she got hit.

It's unfortunate that this happened. But we do need take into context the situation and all factors involved.

heedlessly2··on China to bar people with bad 'social credit' from planes, trains
you only prove my point further because you've forgotten that Theranos raised $700 million and her board of directors was a list of very respected researchers, physicians, and businesspeople.

If she was a black women, it would never have gotten to that point ever without a legit product.

Holmes was the perfect posterface for Silicon Valley's version of "progressiveness" that caters upperclass white folks, without care for people of color. Google "white feminism"

heedlessly2··on China to bar people with bad 'social credit' from planes, trains
because if black people get accused of a crime, most people believe they actually committed it.

If an upper-middle class blonde hair, blue eyed woman gets accused of a crime, a higher degree of people would at least give her the benefit of the doubt

heedlessly2··on Airtable gets $52M in funding
because the answer is obvious, and someone already replied with it
heedlessly2··on Stephen Hawking has died
can we just give his family some privacy? Jeez...
heedlessly2··on Developer Survey Results
there's a lot of students.

Students and younger devs need to ask more questions, so they have a more active presence. While an older dev may still need to ask questions, they can just google, and find the answer without needing to create an account.

so the other person's point is that although you have a family, you're not spending a lot of "quality" time with them
heedlessly2··on Lyft says its revenue is growing nearly 3x faster than Uber’s
the funny thing is most people criticized Uber for destroying the taxicab industry and displacing jobs, yet don't do the same for Lyft.

The other stuff such as Uber's sexual harrassment, i get, but the above boggles my mind

heedlessly2··on Lyft says its revenue is growing nearly 3x faster than Uber’s
Travis Kalanick is still Chris Sacca's boy
heedlessly2··on Lyft says its revenue is growing nearly 3x faster than Uber’s
they're becoming the "Buzzfeed" of tech
heedlessly2··on Making $60k a month from a podcast on software engineering
so with your schedule, you would be away from your family from 7:30am to 10:30 pm, 6 days per week.

I doubt your spending any more than 30 mins per day with your son on weekdays.
