holoduke··on Tailscale SSH: Investigation and remediation update
By coincidence i heard about tailscale for the firsttime today. I tried to understand what the benefit are. seeing people having all their devices accesible from their phone. I am using plain ssh for this for decades. Still not convinced of using tailscale.
holoduke··on OpenAI and Anthropic cut their LLM prices by up to 80% within a few months. Why?
Not DeepSeek themselves, but their open models are run by third-party companies in a profitable way. The unsustainable interference theory has been debunked.

I don't get why people think Chinese models could bring openai and anthropic to their knees. There are zero signs of such a scenario. In fact the market is still growing at a gigantic pace. Quality of American models is still AAA. Chinese will have their place. But they are unmatched by their American rivals.
holoduke··on Serbia's Vucic concedes election defeat in historic win for student movement
The replacement party isn't any better though. It will not change anything in Serbia. Just like Hungary which might look like it's changed , but it's not. The political layer isn't remotely controlling those countries. Powerful institutions are. And they are not chosen.
holoduke··on Why I Am a Programmer
Jobs come and jobs go. Sure that engineering will become even bigger, but the job as a literal code types is becoming obsolete.
holoduke··on A 10-year-old CNN outperforms frontier LLMs for skin cancer diagnosis
The only real usecase I can see for jev style like models are processing long lists of items. i.e server logs or financial transactions or sensor data in robotics.
holoduke··on We are all living inside of an obscure sci-fi film from 1970
A certain degree of socialism like for example in Sweden works out quite good or not?
holoduke··on It's still ok to enjoy programming
I think the fun part of stuff you could do is setting up dev environments that are augmented. Not only the code creation part. But also the reviewing, testing , quality benchmarking and more. Arranging this is not easy and definitely an engineering challenge.
holoduke··on LittleJS is 2D and 3D now
In the end you are moving a bunch of electrons. With or without AI. You are just annoyed by AI. But creativity has nothing to do with AI or no AI.
holoduke··on Gemini 4 Argon
They are all very slow at the moment. Some tasks are taking hours to even days. These are DevOps related tasks in which I create hundreds of servers in an agentic way. It works. But it's slow. That's still annoying.
holoduke··on Gemini 4 Argon
The dashes reveal AI generated text. For me a trigger to further ignore the text.
holoduke··on AI coding agents generate more code, but not more software
Creating code is free now. Maintaining it is not. At least not at this point. The amount of slop we need to maintain is becoming very big. There is no other way than to use ai to deal with this. But that creates even more slop. Hopefully slop will be dealt with at some point.
holoduke··on Artificial Insanity
LLMs are like a static snapshot of a brain. Inactive till you run one tick with it. I expect AI models becoming much more dynamic. The model needs to be live updating itself. Then it will become a living thing. But hardware wont allow for that yet. Maybe first small dynamic LLMs are possible.
holoduke··on Artificial Insanity
What is exactly "actual understanding" . If it tells 1+1 = 2 it can perfectly explain why the result is 2. Or do you mean the actual transformer work during the 1+1 question?
holoduke··on The RAM shortage is bringing back DDR4
Oh of course thats certainly also gonna happen. But i believe there its still useful to have local dedicated AI with low latency. For example regulators that need constant adjustments. Also in cameras local AI could be extremely useful. Same for audio processing and other sensor processing. Cloud solutions wont work in those cases.
holoduke··on The RAM shortage is bringing back DDR4
In 5 years from now every device. Even your oven or washing machine has somekind of local LLM running for sensor reading and smart decision models. I can already think of quite some useful use cases for those devices. So I do believe that AI becomes magnitudes bigger than today. It's a logical step in our digital journey.
holoduke··on Why isn't the industry freaking out about DeepSeek 4.1 Flash?
That's only temporary till production meets demand again.
holoduke··on Why isn't the industry freaking out about DeepSeek 4.1 Flash?
He doesn't ruin the cost of memory. Advances in memory size and speed are now in full speed mode. Expect drastic increase in the upcoming years. Big factories are in the making and planned. Gigalab in the US and many others in the east. Since 2010 we have computers with 16gb as being normal. Finally we are moving into a new era where the standard will be 64gb next year and 128 in 2028. Hopefully we reach 1tb in 2030.
holoduke··on Meta and Microsoft take steps to reduce employee usage of Claude AI
Talk to the emulator community. Huge leaps being made there. Or binary decompiling topics. Huge leaps there. There is more than web applications
holoduke··on Paramount Skydance has completed its $111B merger with Warner Bros. Discovery
Ai is the ultimate form of art made by humans.

But why Hollywood?
holoduke··on Paramount Skydance has completed its $111B merger with Warner Bros. Discovery
In 1 or 2 years AI movies will be better in everything. From acting , to camera work to environments to story telling. Check out the quality of some of work already out there. There is a massive shift going on. China is going full speed mode. The film industry will be reshaped. Warner Bros should have used those billions to purchase products like seadance. Otherwise they are out
holoduke··on A sustainable web career, for when all this blows over
Frontend development will be the first that will be completely replaced by agentic development where nobody needs to see any code at all. Its already possible and many companies are having this way of working quite succesfully. The quality is already better than 99% of what frontend engineers can achieve. Speed is just insane. I can create any ui. Whether it's web or platform specific. There are hardly any limitations. Frameworks are still useful. But I expect them to become less important. What remains important as a dev is system knowledge. Understanding of how systems are tight together. The principles of distributed systems, security, prompt engineering, agentic automation. And that kind of knowledge. Code syntax is from the old era. Maybe there is a niche for it. But not for the majority.

holoduke··on U.S. may have overthrown Venezuela due to chat with Grok
Same as Saudi Arabia. People there are still getting beheaded. And its government is under full control of the US. Same thing in Venezuela. Nobody cares about it citizens. Oil is what matters.

holoduke··on GLM-5.3 and the spread of advanced cyber capabilities
It's impossible to ban them. I would eat my shoes if Australia really bans open ai models.
holoduke··on Explaining to business people why building software is still hard
On the other hand. If his tool does the job why not. If you asked a 90s engineer how javascript triggers millions of cpu instructions for just a few code steps he would call you crazy.
