isnotchicago··on An “incident” with the James Webb Space Telescope has occurred
I have never heard of User Acceptance Training. I have heard of User Acceptance Testing (UAT), which is about users testing the software, not training users on the software. The goal of UAT is to work with the user to verify that the software's functionality and usability are "acceptable". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acceptance_testing#User_accept...

By default, AT&T also throttles video playback to 480p, but it is an option that can be disabled: https://www.att.com/offers/streamsaver.html (instructions listed in the middle/FAQ).
isnotchicago··on Peek Behind Bret Victor's Lab at YC HARC
This is the first I had heard of Limn, and it looks like a really interesting magazine. What other great non-mainstream tech/design magazines are out there?
isnotchicago··on El Capitan and Homebrew
If I have already installed a bunch of packages, how do I move everything to something like ~/.homebrew? (1) Change the HOMEBREW_PREFIX (2) move the existing aliases from /usr/local/bin (3) add the directory to my path (4) ???

Do you know if the design position is remote as well?

isnotchicago··on Windows 10: Re-Crappifying Windows 8
There is a lot more to good design than big click targets. Even infinitely large targets are useless if the user does not know where they are.
isnotchicago··on Nexus 6
A trade implies choice. What are the phones with amazing battery life? There are some DROID phones (MAXX, etc.), but is that it?
isnotchicago··on Building advanced search on Imgur
But, 2 gifs is 100% of the gifs in the article...
isnotchicago··on Tower 2
A nice feature of the previous version of Tower (and even more previously, most SVN clients), is the ability to browse the entire repo and instantly see info about the last commit of each file (e.g., date, author).

That seems to be missing in this version. There is a Tree view of the repo for each commit, but it is cumbersome to both browse files AND see when files were (last) changed. Has anyone seen such a feature in Tower 2 or other GUIs?

Unrelated: the "Jobs" link in the footer results in a 404 error. It links to snips.net/jobs instead of snips.net/jobs.html.

isnotchicago··on Save more with Google Drive
Indeed. The announcement states, "If you already pay for storage, you’ll automatically move to a better plan at no additional cost," but that does not seem to cover people whose plans are simply becoming cheaper.
isnotchicago··on Why Infinite-Scrolling in Mobile Apps is Destroying Content Consumption
The column to the right of your feed (where birthdays and events show up) also includes the same links as the footer. Click "More" to get to the Developers page, etc.
isnotchicago··on Pencil
Well, that's fair; falling in love is not very easy.
isnotchicago··on Show HN: Site for musical artist recommendations (and anti-recommendations)
Subscribing for Google Play Music All Access (yeah, say that seven times fast) opens up the instant playlists ("radio stations") to include all of the music in Google's catalog. But I have found the selection of similar music to be pretty conservative; despite Google's large catalog, the same artists/songs come up every time I play a given radio.
isnotchicago··on Nexus 5
From what I have read, the radios in the HTC First lock you into AT&T. On T-Mobile, you will only get 2G speeds.
isnotchicago··on Unboxing and setting up the Firefox OS ZTE
You should look at the HTC First. It is discontinued, but runs 4.1, has good specs, and is available on eBay for $150-$200.
isnotchicago··on Appmaker
Using Chrome 30 on OS X, I am getting the following error when trying to play the video:

"[blocked] The page at https://appmaker.mozillalabs.com/ ran insecure content from http://www.youtube.com/embed/RaRIdLgZTPI?autoplay=1."

As far as getting into specifics, how have questions like "How often does that happen?" worked compared to questions like "when is the last time that happened?" In other words, having the user speak about a particular instance versus generalizing about a "typical" day.

Small typo on the "What's next?" page after you create a new app:

``They will be in your Dropbox folder under the followng path:``

Should be "following", not "followng".

isnotchicago··on Tutorial: How to build your own peer-to-peer chat app (like Couple)
Just an FYI, but the website is unusable on mobile (Android ICS). The sidebar navigation completely overlaps the text when zoomed in.
isnotchicago··on Scientific Communication As Sequential Art
Unrelated to the content of the article, but the light grey text is almost entirely illegible. The figure captions are particularly bad, and I am surprised Bret Victor chose such an awful color scheme. This page is basically a perfect case for http://contrastrebellion.com/
isnotchicago··on Airbnb Releases Infinity.js: A Javascript Library for Smoother Scrolling
On the right sidebar, under "Facebook (c) 2012" should be duplicates of all of the links at the bottom of the page. For the "Create a page" link, you have to click "More".

This is clearly unintuitive, but at least it exists.

isnotchicago··on WebRTC is almost here, and it will change the web
In the parent's defense, the rest of that paragraph and the chart below it downplay Microsoft's role in favor of Google's, which could be viewed as "not quite right".
