izacus··on WTF Ubuntu?
Who demonstrated getting root with it? The last I've seen was "trust me bro".
izacus··on BioWare co-founder: game execs "have never made a game" and don't get it
Unfortunately "gameplay" wasn't why the franchise was popular or bought by their fans.
izacus··on Patrick Stewart taught us what good men do with power
What? Like his main character shtick is that he's a selfish asshole that will abuse his workers on a whim.

How do you watch that show and not notice that he's supposed to be the worlds worst, selfish, narcissist ?

izacus··on Patrick Stewart taught us what good men do with power
I believe you somehow managed to miss the basic idea and storytelling approach of Science Fiction as a genre.
izacus··on Patrick Stewart taught us what good men do with power
It suggests nothing of sort.
izacus··on Patrick Stewart taught us what good men do with power
Works of fiction are critical to understanding the society in which they're made and interpreted.
izacus··on Patrick Stewart taught us what good men do with power
Sir Stewart has also repeatedly shown his personal politics to be pretty in line with what the show shows. So it's fine either way.
izacus··on Zero click, silent, remote Android DoS
This has very little in common with Stagefright. Most importantly: Stagefright was vulnerable to arbitrary media being sent in arbitrary apps.

This requires carrier to cooperate.

izacus··on Zero click, silent, remote Android DoS
They could just... take down the mobile network without having to go through the hassle of bricking your phone individually.

And it's not that hard, bring down a VPN or some core routing service.

izacus··on Zero click, silent, remote Android DoS
The carrier? You mean the company that actually routes and controls the emergency calls and other calls this DDoSes? And routes and controls all your data transfer and owns the cell towers?

How do you make calls without trusting them?

izacus··on Valve Responds to Developers Fearing AI Slop and Clones
No, I think the problem is that the person writing that:

- Has grown up and doesn't actually want to play games anymore (without realizing it)

- Is severely depressed and needs other help than the one games can provide.

izacus··on Code-execution flaw in UEFI firmware threatens most servers on planet Earth
This is literally some security people crying wolf until everyone just stops listening to them.
izacus··on The Mythical Man-Month in the Age of AI
Funny how "maybe they work in different domain" doesn't come up here as well.

When y'all talk about these LLM programmers, what are they programming? The next startup Typescript website, a new OS, a C++ firmware for a fridge or a control system for cancer treatment machines?

izacus··on Lula wins election after final votes tallied
You're mixing up cause and effect - the short term limits cause a different, less people culty, governance.
izacus··on Microsoft offers mass buyouts for roughly a quarter of its workforce
I'm not dismissing people, I'm dismissing your poorly thought out opinion.

This is what a discussion is - and besides me not liking it, it's also flawed and dismissive of people.

izacus··on Microsoft offers mass buyouts for roughly a quarter of its workforce
Twitter lost 80% of the value for their shareholders so what the heck are you on about man?
izacus··on Microsoft offers mass buyouts for roughly a quarter of its workforce
You sound like you don't really know much about teams and leadership.

Getting rid of your best means you'll also make sure that the rest of them slowly, but surely leave and never come back. Good people will not work with average people which results in long term failure to compete for the company.

There's a reason why all tech industry leaders have focused on getting a *consistent* and *even* pool of good workers to establish themselves there (against wisdom of the MBA crowd you're repeating here).

izacus··on Lula wins election after final votes tallied
Exactly, this prevents personality cults and power hoarding.
izacus··on Serbia's Vucic concedes election defeat in historic win for student movement
Saying Hungary hasn't changed has to be the biggest lie I've seen in a while.
izacus··on C vs. C#: racing VLC's Gaussian blur
What glass effects would VLC render in the video?
izacus··on Danish Government silently drops plan to dump MS Office
Which doesn't change the fact that you need a corporate entity to be there to actually deploy and maintain the software you're pushing - and for a longer time than a few months before you get bored.
izacus··on Full Disk Encryption on Fedora with TPM2
Does this still prevent hibernation from working?
izacus··on Danish Government silently drops plan to dump MS Office
This. I've been around these kind of pushes in my part oif EU for a long time and the reality is: there's a lot of talk and demands and not many people signing up for tenders, development or maintenance work.

The opinion is that "the public workers don't need it" for every feature missing in Linux or LibreOffice. I can only imagine how a fight to upstream such features would look like even if someone took on a support contract.

With Microsoft at least the governments get shared fate with large corpos who also need enterprise features.

izacus··on Around a dozen banking apps began specifically permitting GrapheneOS
They might even subcontract the same while label app company for their banking app, meaning that you get the same app every time with different logos.
izacus··on Median product "lifespan" has fallen from ~4y down to ~1.5y
Wow, that makes Google products seem supported for ever.
izacus··on Disney Raising Prices Days After Confirming Ads Will Now Show Up on Every Tier
My government does it a lot.
izacus··on Investor-owned utilities charge 23% more for electricity than public providers
No, you misunderstood the point of the poster and decided to bloviate about unrelated things.
izacus··on Disney Raising Prices Days After Confirming Ads Will Now Show Up on Every Tier
This has nothing with perpetual growth and everything with training your population to defend these practices with "oh, they're just companies, don't use it if you don't like it!" instead of fighting back.
izacus··on Getting ready to operate GNU Taler in Germany
Right, expecting that any government would approve a channel for continental scale money laundering and tax evasion is not realistic, neither would any sane person prefer it.
izacus··on Getting ready to operate GNU Taler in Germany
A payment system that works in one out of 25 countries of EU isn't really a credible alternative to a world-wide spanning Visa/MC ecosystem.
