jazzythom··on How to Store an SSH Key on a Yubikey
Wait is generation on the host? Nonono you generate a GPG key on the key then export the public key and derive the SSH key. These instructions are wrong the host never should store the key even if airgapped
jazzythom··on Mini-review: The Clockwork Pi DevTerm R-01, or RISC-V on the go
And since when was RISC-V retro? Calling RISC-V fantasy might be accurate. I fail to see how everyone shifting to an open ISA benefits the people. Saves chip designers a dollar on licensing sure. But the RTL is still closed for most RISC-V that gets tape out. So you have no clue what it’s doing. “open”. Sure.
jazzythom··on Mini-review: The Clockwork Pi DevTerm R-01, or RISC-V on the go
No its history, it isn’t made up. And retro computers are still operational. Not as many sure but take them away and the lights go out.
jazzythom··on Mini-review: The Clockwork Pi DevTerm R-01, or RISC-V on the go
Is it retro? Sounds like some kind of fantasy game. The Tandy it was designed to mimic was actually made to help real people in real work

If you’re into the D1 get a $25 Mango Pi 1Gb from Alixexpress. They also have very nice minimalist metal cases if you search. Wifi and bluetooth onboard.

This Devterm product looks great largely because it copied the design of the Tandy. But, the reviews for the build quality are damning, the chip is underpowered for this task and some of the design choices make no sense. Who needs a thermal printer in 2022? Why are there two giant bezels on the sides that pop open the case?

But hey nice try. A few more revisions and I might buy one. I like that they’re trying something different, big points there. I wonder if they could put magnetic modules on the back like Motorola’s bricks (phoneblocks?) concept.

jazzythom··on Nobody Learned Anything from the Crypto Crash
Do you know why? A mania kills a segment of the stupid, but provides enough capital to the remaining lucky who cashed in early such that they can reproduce where they otherwise wouldn’t have. It’s evolution at work. In the short term.

You know if I was a state sponsored intelligence unit the very first software I would backdoor would be IDS and TOR and every type of pentest tool. These tools secure you from intrusion like a flare gun hides your location.

I emailed Tim Cook about that and got a lengthy printed response a few months back. Paraphrasing; ‘they do care and they’re working on it’.

> Rich powerful people don't accept that truth, and keep trying to get what they want. But you can't always get what you want.

Some people can’t stop trying, it’s involuntary. That 80’s tough love slogan “never, never give up” actually does work, and wealth follows but, made or born, people with that level of obsession are deeply flawed.

jazzythom··on I was forced to be a child star. It was never my dream or my idea
I think we need to predict what kids will become, what they actually want, and fully commit to giving them that outcome. It’s necessary to take some risk of an outcome like WW, but they were just being opportunistic. We need to pursue for children a narrative with intent.
jazzythom··on I was forced to be a child star. It was never my dream or my idea
They can’t consent to anything by your logic we should cut a hole in a cardboard box and put them in it until they’re 18. You have to be practical, that opportunity could generate millions for his future and build a career. I mean you can’t punish them for being unable to see the future. Judge them from the information available at the junction.
jazzythom··on I was forced to be a child star. It was never my dream or my idea
My parents pushed me hard, but sent me to a liberal arts school, and I’m hardwired for engineering. Hilarity ensued. The grinding of gears was a memory I would pay to erase. Deeply resent spending hours every day learning languages for countries I had no interest in visiting and how glaciers formed. What a waste of my finite precious time. If only I could go back I’d run out the gate and get on a train never to be seen again.

I feel his resentment, but not sure if airing that on TV is rational, although it’s his right.

jazzythom··on Logitech MX Mechanical Keyboard
Even though I use a mx master 2 I strongly dislike logitech product. It’s tacky and minimum acceptable quality. Like Dell laptops. Opening the box you cant tell where the shipping packaging ends and the product begins.
jazzythom··on Framework laptop alternative with trackpoint built from NUC by prime computer
Love how they take apart a nuc reassemble it in a Chinese clone laptop and then stamp a stupid logo everywhere. You brand what YOU make. They probably didn’t even design the logo
jazzythom··on Cryptocrash: ‘I was arrested for knocking on Luna boss's door'
So crypto built a lobby by permeating social networks. Those who owned it effectively received a kickback from promoting it to their peers and were heavily incentivized to silence dissent. On HN I remember Sam Altman promoting a ridiculous concept of a sphere that would scan a hash from your iris and then give you a shitcoin (worthless hyped token) in return. This shitcoin would, claimed ‘worldcoin’ be humanities future currency. Everyone called bullshit but HN censored the dissent where twitter did not - and that is valuable proof of the mechanism in play. It was a cash grab plain and simple.

The key to understanding cryptomania lies in the correct definition of scarcity. What, exactly, is scarce about cryptocurrency? Because even though the math guarantees a finite number of bitcoins, since almost anyone could in 20 minutes create a shitcoin and hype it on social media, and then exchange it for bitcoin, and the bitcoin for USD… it would appear that the true scarce resource backing the cryptocurrency markets is the collective expendable income and credit of a gullible demographic of the online population.

So you’re witnessing a transfer of resources very likely from one group with a genetic mutation that results in a series of specific behavioral traits, to a group without the defect. You’re actually witnessing evolution.

jazzythom··on Cryptocrash: ‘I was arrested for knocking on Luna boss's door'
You're wrong. Perhaps in denial. It certainly is a sign of low intelligence. Evolution has sorted the weak and is now drowning them. But I will agree it may be lack of a specific type of critical thinking. Perhaps religion bred a type of person vulnerable to bullshit and now that the environment has changed those with the mutation are no longer fit. There are many similarities between religious beliefs and the crypto-mania. Neither had a foundation in reality. Both appeared to be infectious and used peer groups to overrule an individuals critical cognitive processes. Both persecuted dissenters relentlessly. This is a similar phenomena

jazzythom··on Cryptocrash: ‘I was arrested for knocking on Luna boss's door'
How could they be surprised? It was so so so obvious crypto would crash. Did they think money pulled from the bright blue sky would get more and more valuable forever?. People that stupid can’t put on shoes. There must be some other dynamic. This is astounding to me. These people are so stupid. So stupid.
jazzythom··on The math prodigy whose hack upended DeFi won’t return funds
Code is law. He deserves every cent, because it’s all as worthless as the rest of the crypto sector will be in a few months. He deserves the money because he illuminated the true state of crypto by example in a sea of fraud.

‘He said he feels Mayweather and the other promoters “took their payouts and moved on while everybody who scraped by to invest in their futures got robbed.”’

Astounding. This moron borrowed $12k without the capacity to repay it and then spent it on a get rich quick scheme where he would buy a picture of a monkey and sell it to someone even stupider based on a youtube recommendation. It is really hard for me to feel any empathy at all here.
