If you have a clown car already, know how it works, and it's magically cheaper to drive than regular cars and car prices are high then I don't see the issue with this.
jqbd··on DeepSeek V4 Flash 0731
With those cheap models the idea is you're still in the loop anyway so the more expensive model is a waste of time and money. In this case, that means you're steering the game to look like you want not how AI wants.
jqbd··on How to Exist
Your brain is a prediction machine. I am afraid doing nothing is inhibiting that function. I think it's perfectly healthy to not want to be a vegetable. Maybe using that life force to focus on the things you're avoiding by rumination and escapism is good enough, and we don't have to be cosplaying the dead to get there?
jqbd··on Why is everyone trying to build a solid-state battery?
I think I've heard of sodium, lithium hybrids. But that's only 2, what's the fat? Gasoline, LPG hybrid? Shit gets expensive fast. Probably 2x cost of just a sodium or ion EV? The human body is too amazing.
jqbd··on Why is everyone trying to build a solid-state battery?
I would wager charging time is basically solved, adoption is only thing that's left.
jqbd··on Claude Code uses Bun written in Rust now
Isn't it just: "while true {refactorIdiomatically(); fixErrors()}"
jqbd··on Claude Code uses Bun written in Rust now
It works well because they had tests, they could compare before and after. Likelihood of issues especially if you transpile to a safer language should be minimal.
jqbd··on Claude Code uses Bun written in Rust now
but it's written in Rust too /s

I don't think AI or humans are trained well on it.
jqbd··on Blender 5.2 LTS
Maybe you're biased by children's ease of learning - neural plasticity?
jqbd··on Kimi K3: Open Frontier Intelligence
Not for any you. But there exists a you for which you can host it yourself.
jqbd··on Ask HN: Add flag for AI-generated articles
I store all prompts as docs, but I doubt I can rerun the whole prompt history with a better model and get sizable return for the cost, personally. EDIT: I'm referring to a small codebase not articles tho

This assumes they had a deficit of engineers pre-AI. What if they had as much as they needed?

Same as with nuclear...
jqbd··on Cal.com is going closed source
I think cal.com is assuming LLMs are only good at hacking with the source code of the target, whether that's true I don't know

jqbd··on I hate: Programming Wayland applications
I switched to Brave cause switching applications caused pages to reload. I hit that on Brave too now, so might be just old phone too little RAM or sth
jqbd··on Go hard on agents, not on your filesystem
Would like to see something more comprehensive built on zfs and freebsd jails. Namely snapshot/checkpoint before each prompt, quick undo for changes made by agent, auto delete old snapshots etc
jqbd··on Professional video editing, right in the browser with WebGPU and WASM
I'd love some developer love for Blender's editor instead

I want to like it, it's much snappier than vim, but:

I hate selecting lines up. Down xxx is fine. But to go up I have to do x alt; v k. This would be shift+v k in vim.

I often use } { to navigate the file in vim. In hx it's ] p which is very awkward for the fingers. The auto selection makes it hard to read once I use ] p.

Pasting does not behave like vim, often have to click o first then p.

I have to often press ; to unselect just to be able to insert after I navigate to a character with F f t T.

Can't copy from documentation. Can't create files in the explorer.

It feels like much more work to use hx keybindings than vim.

What I love:

Hints whenever you press a key allow you to learn keybinds quickly.

Very quick.

Built in search, file picker, lsp rust out of the box.
