kdaigle··on GitHub Copilot is now available for free
It didn't. If you had a complimentary Copilot Pro plan, you'll continue to have it so you're good!
kdaigle··on NPM Is Joining GitHub
I've been at GitHub for 7 years and we operate independently but have the support and resources of Microsoft when we need them. IMO, they've been amazing partners but day to day the GitHub team builds, prioritizes, and supports GitHub.
kdaigle··on NPM Is Joining GitHub
Today we've announced that we've signed an agreement to acquire NPM but we technically have not acquired them yet (referred to as "closed"). NPM is still their own company for now and that's why the language is future tense.
kdaigle··on GitHub Outage
Everything should be A-OK now. If not, hit up github.com/contact :)
kdaigle··on GitHub Outage
You shouldn't notice a webhook deluge because the site isn't generating events. I'm watching our webhook services though and will let you know if that changes.
kdaigle··on The New GitHub Issues
And we just shipped that via http://git.io/1hV9Ug and you can get the events through the API at https://developer.github.com/v3/issues/events/

:D

kdaigle··on The New GitHub Issues
Definitely a great idea. Keep an eye on webhooks...
kdaigle··on Ga.me – new 'online game console' now in open beta
I was really intrigued until I realized it was all IAP and copies of existing games.
kdaigle··on GitHub Zen API
technoweenie works at GitHub :)
kdaigle··on How Doers Do
Not ashamed to say I'm still working towards that ideal. My project is a start for me. It was too good of an example of doing that I couldn't point it out. It could have been anyone in my feed.
kdaigle··on Get Shit Done with Finish Up Weekend
It's a little unclear on the site if this is just for Austin folks?
kdaigle··on Pixels don’t care
Having worked on a lot of mainly (or entirely) remote teams, I think digital/chat interaction is just as good as face to face. Sometimes face to face personalities don't entirely match your chat persona but chat does a good job of passing along enough information to decide. I've worked with people for years while never having met them in-person. No need.

Regardless of remote/in-person, a piece of paper should never be the sole hiring decision.

kdaigle··on Ramit Sethi and Patrick McKenzie on Getting Your First Consulting Client
Extremely actionable advice in this. Compared to a lot of super fluff books, I used this immediately, and it made me more money. Great book and worth every penny.
kdaigle··on Call My Red Phone - A simple cheap business line with flexible options
And, for what its worth, we launched toll-free phone numbers this morning.
kdaigle··on Call My Red Phone - A simple cheap business line with flexible options
Yes, we use Twilio.

Our goal to start is to see how people are using the application in terms of minutes and call styles. After that, we'll probably tweak the plans to allow plans to have minutes built in. We figure most customers won't use the lines heavily as a main point of contact (like a Startup who uses us as a contact us line). This way we can build minutes into the plans and still turn a profit.

kdaigle··on Ask HN: How can I start my own bank? (Let's redesign banks)
Or simply join a Credit Union which has a much different approach than banks. Focuses on returning profits as services to the consumer via lower rates, more features, etc.

And, like others have said, if a big concern of yours are the overdraft fees call your bank and tell them you no longer want overdraft protection.
