locusm··on 192GB Framework Desktop open for pre-order
This is worth a read. https://frame.work/au/en/blog/what-192gb-changes-for-local-a...
locusm··on French firefighters face 'pyrocumulonimbus' for first time
We get these in the Australian bushfire season, the weather systems they create can flip a 10 tonne fire appliance. https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2019/dec/31/volun...
locusm··on Nvidia RTX Spark
Jensen Huang delivers the absolute worst keynotes - I wasnt ready for that level of cringe and stupidity.
locusm··on Age verification for social media, the beginning of the end for a free internet?
If you deleted all your social media and AI platform accounts today you would wake up tomorrow and be no worse off.
locusm··on Ferrari Luce
That interior is perfect and suggests Ferrari DNA. Externally with those wheels I'm looking at the proportions of a Pontiac Aztek. Would have loved to see Pininfarina involved instead.
locusm··on IDF killed Gaza aid workers at point blank range in 2025 massacre: Report
It just shows how degenerate the indoctrination really is, its just out in the open now.
locusm··on Decided to fly to the US to buy some hard drives
For some weird reason this story reminded me of Johnny Mnemonic.
locusm··on Australia has so much solar that it's offering everyone free electricity
The feed in tariff you refer to was 52c in the beginning and was limited to a 5kW inverter. I installed 6.25kW worth of panels with a 5kW inverter in 2011 and haven't paid a single power bill since. There's no slap in the face, sure I have to give up the FIT if I want the battery subsidy but I haven't paid a cent for power in 13 years (beyond initial investment).
locusm··on Ubiquiti SFP Wizard
You're not using DAC's ?
locusm··on Ubiquiti SFP Wizard
What nics are you using on the server end? Im looking at moving from 10Gbe copper to 25Gbe/100Gbe between Mikrotik switches and 14/15th gen Dell servers
locusm··on Ubiquiti SFP Wizard
Whats the best solution for short runs (rack) between Mikrotik switches and Dell servers. Will a DAC still work between different vendors or is it always best to buy individual transceivers?
locusm··on Ask HN: How to stop an AWS bot sending 2B requests/month?
If you run Google Ads for your customers or yourself and you through whatever means block the Google Adsbot it will come up as a "site unreachable" error and Google will suspend all your ads running. If you dig down further it will state some kind of DNS error as the problem. This is why blocking entire countries is problematic.
locusm··on Ask HN: How to stop an AWS bot sending 2B requests/month?
I am dealing with a similar situation and kinda screwed up as I managed to get Google Ads suspended due to blocking Singapore. I see a mix of traffic from AWS, Tencent and Huawei cloud at the moment. Currently Im just scanning server logs and blocking ip ranges.
locusm··on Framework Laptop 16
Any plan to bring 10Gb ethernet modules to market?
locusm··on Why Tesla’s cars keep crashing
Pretty sure if firefighters got there in time they could break the glass, unless they meant the battery fire was so fierce they couldn’t approach the vehicle.
locusm··on Framework Laptop 12 review
Exactly my thinking too with my FW16.
locusm··on Framework Laptop 12 review
Maybe you were an Intel user and couldn't be bothered upgrading to a new motherboard every CPU release?
locusm··on BYD's Five-Minute Charging Puts China in the Lead for EVs
It’s far better in the Seal and Sea Lion.
locusm··on Synology Lost the Plot with Hard Drive Locking Move
Synology have excellent backup apps for O365 / Google Suite - Ill have to see what latest Truenas has to offer.
locusm··on Synology Lost the Plot with Hard Drive Locking Move
The only moat Synology have is their software. How far is Truenas from catching up?
locusm··on Yale professor who studies fascism fleeing US to work in Canada
That headline makes it sound like he had to flee under the cover of darkness.
locusm··on Bambu Lab H2D Price and Release Date

locusm··on Framework's first desktop is a strange–but unique–mini ITX gaming PC
A 12 month warranty for a $3000 AUD motherboard is a bit rough.

Drove the Seal round a track recently - exceptional bang for buck.
locusm··on Framework (2nd Gen) Event is live on February 25th
I was thinking - Upgraded thunderbolt support - New dGPU for FW16 - Gaming handheld
locusm··on BYD to offer Tesla-like self-driving tech in all models for free
I went to an EV drive day here in Australia and drove around 25 models round a track for the day. The BYD Seal came out on top for me and many others. Interior styling is so much better than Tesla as is fit & finish. The driving dynamics were neck & neck with Tesla and a few other high end cars. BYD also make great batteries and use CATL I think in some models. I can see BYD being the dominant player in the not too distant future.
locusm··on The Economic and Fiscal Effects of the Trump Administration's Proposed Tariffs
"The Budget Lab modeled the economic and fiscal impact of the tariff proposal both with and without retaliation."

locusm··on Melbourne Train Control System is running on a hardware emulated PDP11
