luckydata··on Jobless tech workers are being left out of San Francisco's AI boom

luckydata··on Launch HN: Momentic (YC W24) – Agents that catch bugs by using your app
it's right there in the writeup, it costs more but finds more bugs.
luckydata··on Product Managers aren't safe either
so who's looking at the numbers, planning features and pushing for "them"? What are we calling that?
luckydata··on Gemini 4 Carbon
Carbon is discounted temporarily. It's twice as expensive as Argon. Google TPUs are more efficient than Nvidia hardware plus Google gets them at cost so they have both better margins and more pricing power compared to other frontier labs.
luckydata··on Gemini 4 Carbon
Carbon is Fable / Astra level. Argon is their Opus / Sol.
luckydata··on Gemini 4 Carbon
claude.md is not needed anymore btw, claude now reads agents.md if it doesn't find the other.
luckydata··on What Adobe v ArtCraft teaches us
Red herring. AIs can read an api spec and do just fine.
luckydata··on Investor-owned utilities charge 23% more for electricity than public providers
there is no consumer choice in a natural monopoly. that's why it's called natural monopoly.
luckydata··on Investor-owned utilities charge 23% more for electricity than public providers
then that's not a natural monopoly and not a good example of what is being discussed.
luckydata··on I no longer care to work on any Ruby gems so I've archived all my repositories
sounds like bullshit. I'm actually glad that the people that hold this view are getting out of the way, they are the people that gatekept open source and made it annoying to work with. Do I miss having to wait for months to fix a trivial bug because I first need to convince 15 people that the fix is even necessary?

No, not really.

luckydata··on Someone behind the software
yeah you got it. they really can't. I'm a product manager, I'm STRUGGLING to create a harness for product work, the llms models just can't model a user's mindset very well and make very obvious bad choices that seem to be consistent (and getting worse with the new generations). That doesn't bother me, the code is getting better, but the work to talk to users and understand what needs to be built is still far from being conquered by AI.
luckydata··on Show HN: Gemini 4 Argon plays StarCraft
general "agenticness"
luckydata··on Tesla Roadster
At this point this is some sort of IQ test right?
luckydata··on I designed a nose guard for my dog and gave it away. Now 500 dogs wear one
I wish AI solved the problem of writing like shit. It REALLY bothers me how bad AI writing is and I'm not at all negative about the technology itself. I love AI, I just don't like the side effect of all this garbage content being regurgitated on the internet right now.
luckydata··on Simons Foundation launches $15M effort to help mathematicians navigate AI era
how is that different than what's been happening forever? Mathematics has ALWAYS been a "charity". The only thing that changes over time is who gives the money, first it's the church, then it's princes, then government, it's been corporations for a while, this is nothing new.
luckydata··on Neckbeard – a DevOps/platform/SRE plugin for your agent
I doubt it, bad grammar is better than AI-speak.
luckydata··on Neckbeard – a DevOps/platform/SRE plugin for your agent
the readme is cringe and painful to read. please take a minute to tone the claudisms down.
luckydata··on How Tabasco Became the World's Hot Sauce
why everyone spells it "tobasco" when it's "tabasco"? Is that an american thing?
luckydata··on How tabasco became the hot sauce
if you live in a place where tomatoes still have some flavor try this: cut a couple tomatoes in small cubes / triangles, add a tablespoon of olive oil, a teaspoon of red wine vinegar, a dash of tabasco, crumble some good tuna in it (like Tonnino or Ortiz) and sprinkle some oregano and salt on top. Goes well with crusty bread, preferably toasted.

That was my fathers' go to summer meal in Italy and I can't think of anything else I'd rather eat when it's hot outside, preferably with a cold lager.

luckydata··on Hackers activate automatic defrosting accross European supermarket fridges
because the report code might have bugs
luckydata··on AI less regulated than milk, Microsoft president says in warning over safety
no he's completely insane though
luckydata··on AI less regulated than milk, Microsoft president says in warning over safety
it's humans all day long
luckydata··on Secret of Orange Cats Revealed After 60-Year Search
in italian we call them "red cats"
luckydata··on Terence Tao: Math 2.0 [pdf]
"our work has brought about enormous advancements to the field of mathematics and we don't like it"

it's pretty ironic that AI being just a group of mathematical techniques after all is making mathematicians uncomfortable because it works. Instead of reacting like this, mathematicians should be excited to figure out how to use the new tools available and push the frontier of what's possible in service of science.

Terrence is asking the stupidest question he could ask: how can math better serve me? They completely forgot the point of science is serving humanity.

luckydata··on Trump administration is suspending Microsoft from a green card program
google must be out of order in your neck of the woods uh?
luckydata··on ADHD as a circadian rhythm disorder: evidence and implications for chronotherapy (2025)
being a night owl is not good for your health for a lot of reasons (I am one).
luckydata··on ADHD as a circadian rhythm disorder: evidence and implications for chronotherapy (2025)
you are so utterly and completely wrong it's not worth engaging in anything you wrote.

please educate yourself: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8328933/

luckydata··on OpenAI annualised revenues $20B less than previously signalled
in this case nothing. they are not public, and they never lied to their actual investors that we know of, they were just being tongue in cheek with the press and never actually made any materially false statement. Being oblique does a lot of the heavy lifting here.
luckydata··on Trump administration is suspending Microsoft from a green card program
I'm sorry but even as an immigrant in the USA this is bs. The h1b program brought a lot of great talent but also depressed employment rates for american graduates in computer science that's just a fact (please don't bother asking for a link google works as well for you as it does for me).

the H1B program is mostly a wage control tool for american big tech. I'm no friend of the current administration btw, I think they are monsters, but there's no reason to lie about a program that has had incredibly damaging effects on the labor market in the US.

luckydata··on ArtCraft Apps – open-source Adobe compatible suite written in Rust
to make a complete copy of photoshop you just need computer use, which this clearly didn't do.
