You should turn on github pages so we can see it live. Seems cool but I’m not at my pc rn
lukew3··on Ask HN: How to be alone?
I think rock-climbing fills a similar void for me. It's social, physical, and mental, and has a progression to it where I feel like I've gained something after every session. Plus you can take your skills outside and enjoy nature and travel with friends
lukew3··on Claude becomes number one app on the U.S. App Store
I think their ads are better than chatgpt’s. I’ve seen them more recently encouraging people to “keep thinking” and use it to improve themselves
lukew3··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (December 2025)
https://wordcollector.netlify.app An offline dictionary in your browser. Dictionary is pulled from the open source wordnet dataset and cached in browser as a sqlite database. Installable as a PWA as well. Working on adding a study mode to review words that you’ve looked up in the past to help commit them to memory and adding synonyms and antonyms. Plans to add multiple languages in the future so you could use this as a language learning tool as well.
lukew3··on Show HN: Move to dodge the bullets. How long can you survive?
I think the current way is fine but showing position on the bell curve would help for those who struggle with interpretation
lukew3··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (July 2025)
I'm working on Paint Launcher (beta) – a minimalist Android home screen without icons, where you paint tappable zones onto your wallpaper instead. You can try it out now here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lukew3.pai...
lukew3··on Show HN: StackHound - Stop guessing repo's tech stack, analyze it in seconds
I tried it on https://github.com/monkeytypegame/monkeytype and it just said ESLint and Prettier which doesn't describe much. It probably would work properly if it worked recursively or at least checked the first directories. I like the website and api option though.
lukew3··on Show HN: I built a tool to find devs based on code, not LinkedIn titles
Kinda mad I didn't show up when I searched my skills and location. Seems like people with those skills in their bio showed up first even though others may have more commits and their profile/repos have more recognition.
lukew3··on Show HN: GitMCP is an automatic MCP server for every GitHub repo
Cool project! I would probably call it an MCP server for every Github repo though since project could be confused for Github Projects which is their work planning/tracking tool.
lukew3··on Show HN: I built a chatbot that lets you talk to any GitHub repository
Yes, I'd rather not share access to my private repos with an untrusted party. I would like to try it with public ones though
lukew3··on Putting Bounties on My Goals
Kinda obvious this was written last minute haha. Basically rewriting this idea we've all heard many times. Good luck though!
lukew3··on WebGL Fluid Simulation
Woah, that's pretty
lukew3··on The average American spent 2.5 months on their phone in 2024
Notice how gen Z is less anxious than Millennials and Gen x when it comes to losing their phone. I think that younger generations will have a better understanding of the addictive nature of phones from a young age and will learn that they will not go far if they are absorbed in their phones. My hope is that we will learn to use the easily available entertainment on our phones like we learn to use recreational drugs, with moderation and respect.
lukew3··on You Exist in the Long Context
Lighten up. Cheats exist in other games but if you want to have fun, you should probably play without them.

Hi, I'm Luke. I'm a CS student graduating from the Ohio State University this December. I've done 2 internships and 3 co-ops at JPMorgan Chase & Co. where I've worked on lease application services and done React.js and Java web development. Before that I worked for a little over a year at Ohio Supercomputer Center, developing Ruby on Rails applications for high performance computing. I'm highly curious and excited about new and useful work. I enjoy making experiences that people love and solving problems. Please reach out about whatever, I'm curious to see what you all are working on!

lukew3··on Show HN: Tiny Chrome extension to disable images to reduce distractions
It's an easily accessible toggle. It would be a pain to be on a website where you need to see an image and have to go find the setting toggle it, view you content , then find and toggle it again.
lukew3··on Show HN: ChatGPT UI for rabbit holes
There should be something a UI like this but it just sources data from Wikipedia. Could just be the Abstract and allow you to open a wikipedia iframe or something. You should add this as a mode to this app
lukew3··on Figma OSS Alternative
I switched to penpot for a little bit after the Adobe acquisition was announced because I figured Figma as we knew it would cease to exist. However, I found that there were little differences between the two that gave it a learning curve and I noticed that I missed little niceities in Figma. I went back to it after a few weeks and after the acquisition was revoked, I feel better about sticking with Figma. I love the company and the story behind it's creation, and plan on continuing supporting what I think is a better product. I'm happy that penpot exists though to keep Figma in check from excessively pricing their product.
lukew3··on US drug control agency will move to reclassify marijuana
If it has been illegal to sell cannabis commercially, how have cannabis companies been allowed to form and be publicly traded? I would think that federal regulation to be publicly traded would cause issues.
lukew3··on Guess my RGB
I made something similar a while ago. I opted for calculating a score based on the sum of distance between each of the channel values and gave users one guess. https://lukew3.github.io/color-code-tutor/
lukew3··on Show HN: Dropflow, a CSS layout engine for node or <canvas>
Lots of people are already really comfortable with html/css, so having the option to avoid learning an entirely new paradigm is helpful.
lukew3··on YC: Requests for Startups
What's the reason for this? Is this because of extensive regulation due to insurer/hospital lobbying and patient safety laws?
lukew3··on Oslo acquires ChatGPT for 110k students and teachers
Why are they buying licenses for it? To promote student equality?
lukew3··on U.S. National Park Service API
Love that this exists. I found that they also have a Github(1) with a public data archive. Any existing projects using this API in an interesting way?

lukew3··on Synctify – Sync a music drop with a time in the real world
Oh no, I didn't know about this. It looks like Spotify hasn't authorized anybody but me and I would have to add every user I want to add individually. I don't think that anybody has been able to use this app. If anybody really wants to try it out you can DM me on X https://twitter.com/thelukew3 or follow me there and I'll post an update when it's fixed. Maybe I'll relaunch next year. Thanks for the help.
lukew3··on Synctify – Sync a music drop with a time in the real world
Bizarre. The dropdown should show a list of devices Spotify is open on, and should throw an error if no devices found but activate is clicked. Does the rest of the metadata load right? Maybe the link you pasted wasn't what was expected. Your link has to come from clicking Share->Copy Song Link on Spotify.
lukew3··on Synctify – Sync a music drop with a time in the real world
The timestamp when the "drop" or target moment occurs is at 0:34. The duration of the song is 2:16
lukew3··on Synctify – Sync a music drop with a time in the real world
Thanks, that's helpful. I'll probably call it a moment instead of a drop in future descriptions.
lukew3··on Synctify – Sync a music drop with a time in the real world
Do you have javascript disabled?
lukew3··on Synctify – Sync a music drop with a time in the real world
Hello, I created Synctify to help you sync the drop in a song with the start of the new year or any other noteworthy or casual event. Enjoy and let me know what you think!
