maxencecornet··on Cloudflare acquires Astro
Very unexpected but it's a great match. I have been using Astro with Cloudflare Pages and the dev UX is fantastic
maxencecornet··on Show HN: I’ve made a cheaper SEO research tool
For OP: Would you say this is a drop-in replacement from ahref's lite plan ?

What would I miss from ahref ?

maxencecornet··on Ask HN: Any solo game developers here?
Your games looks really good. Do you handle art + programming by ourself ?

As someone that would like to create my own (basic) games, what would be the right tools and frameworks In your opinion to create art and game logic ?

The easier to learn the better haha

Cough cough...Strapi...
maxencecornet··on 10 Years of Meteor
I guess it's probably one of the reason that made Meteor not seen as "production-proof"
maxencecornet··on 10 Years of Meteor
Wow Sacha Greif, a name I haven't seen in a long time!

Thank you for the good memories, I know every thing and everyone you talked about in this post. BTW, back in the days I created 2 very popular Atmosphere packages

I wish Meteor succeeded in becoming more mainstream, and the MDG didn't abandon it so quickly to go after the new shiny tool that was GraphQL

Nowadays, there is still no equivalent framework in the JS world in terms of productivity

maxencecornet··on How can I get my boyfriend to stop digging his tunnel?
Reminds me of dwarves from Dwarf Fortress entering a "Strange Mood" (https://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2014:Strange_mood)

Basically becoming completely obsessed like this, stoping any other task

maxencecornet··on Ask HN: What is your “I don't care if this succeeds” project?
I am just using Next.js SSG mode: https://nextjs.org/docs/advanced-features/static-html-export to generate a lot of pages based on a template and data fetched from a thrid-party API
maxencecornet··on Ask HN: What is your “I don't care if this succeeds” project?
What is the tech stack behind a strategy game like this ?
maxencecornet··on Ask HN: What is your “I don't care if this succeeds” project?
https://marketcapvsmarketcap.com/ - it's a project I made to learn more about the static page generation (SSG) mode of Next.js

If it's useful to people that's just an added bonus, but it was just a way to learn the development and CI/CD aspect of SSG

The idea is that I pre-create hundred of thousands of pages at build time - all the pages can be seen here: https://marketcapvsmarketcap.com/sitemap.xml

maxencecornet··on Ask HN: Those making $500/month on side projects in 2022 – Show and tell
No it's mostly organic google traffic
maxencecornet··on Ask HN: Those making $500/month on side projects in 2022 – Show and tell
My side project https://playtoearn.one/ is not making $500/month yet, but it's getting there: a tiny bit more than $400 for this month

It's getting around 250-300 visitors a day, and in a high paying niche

I started using "classic" ads - which were/are making next to nothing - but just signed a deal with a direct client for 400$ for 3 weeks of displaying his game on the site, on the top banner

There are so many play-to-earn games popping up at the same time that projects are fighting for visibility, which playtoearn.one can bring

So now, I've hired a designer to make a great looking UI and I'm getting motivated to turn this side project into something more than this

EDIT: Traffic for the past month:

Is it me or the current stocks / housing / crypto markets are absolutely insane those days ?
maxencecornet··on We killed our end-to-end test suite
The scale of Nubank is insane
maxencecornet··on Miniflare – Simulator for developing and testing Cloudflare Workers
I find wrangler really decent to work with, it's pretty minimalist but does everything I need

What kind of issues did you have ?

maxencecornet··on Show HN: I built a comprehensive Ark ETF tracker
Really well made!
maxencecornet··on When Should You Not Use Rails?
>All of our "lightweight Sinatra(and similar) API" services eventually start to look more and more like Rails apps

Oh man, I've been working as a freelance/agency with a a team of 3 experts in nodejs for 5 years now - we've built API & products for many many clients

Our nodejs/express "lightweight" framework is looking exactly like a rails app now (migrations, controllers and models generator, some scaffolding generators)

maxencecornet··on Ask HN: What startup/technology is on your 'to watch' list?
At my company, we run 100% of our front-end React/Vue web apps on Cloudflare workers - We love it, deploys are really easy, performance/resilience is built-in
maxencecornet··on Binance to acquire CoinMarketCap for $400M
>do you honestly believe that without that rating system offered to the Institutional Investment crowd I mentioned earlier they'd be at even a fraction of their valuation/purchase price?

Standard license is $299/ mo, even with only 3000 paying customers, and there are likely way more than 3000 paying customers, that would be $10M a year in revenue

CMC is a good asset and a valuation/purchase price of $400M is a fair price for the API product only, let alone the ranking /rating aspect

maxencecornet··on Binance to acquire CoinMarketCap for $400M
I'm one of the paying client for the API, people in the comments fail to understand that CMC API has many paying customers
maxencecornet··on Cryptocurrencies Are Detrimental to Society
>and shutting down the "exchanges" like coinbase would tank the value for crypto

Sure it would, but you can't close decentralized on-chain exchanges like uniswap or Kyber

I'm pretty sure there will always be a fiat<->crypto bridge, you can't "shut them all down" IMO

maxencecornet··on Cryptocurrencies Are Detrimental to Society
>Therefore, I would propose to shut them all down.

OK the author clearly has no idea how a blockchain and a set of validators work

I would gladly hear his plan to "shut them all down"

maxencecornet··on Intel and Vivo join Sony and Amazon withdrawals from MWC due to coronavirus risk
I'm pretty sure the MWC won't happen this year

Packing +100k people from all over the world in a congress with 6% people coming from China would be insane with the coronavirus risk

maxencecornet··on Ask HN: Making a mobile app as a back-end developer?
I work as a back-end developer, I've built several apps using react native & expo and the experience was pretty good, I'm really happy with the results
maxencecornet··on Ask HN: How did you go nomad?
Remote clients are hard to find
maxencecornet··on Ask HN: How did you go nomad?
While in Paris working as a freelance nodejs developer, I built a website that was making me just enough to get by in South East Asia without having to work (a bit more than $1k/month)

So I left France, and while living on the money generated by this website, I tried to build a product

In the end, my website revenue dried up and I went back to France to work as a freelance developer, after a year of digital nomadism in SEA

It was one of my happiest time in life

It feels like it was decades ago, time flies

maxencecornet··on Ask HN: A client project is getting momentum, I need infrastructure advices
I forgot to add: All requests are behind Cloudflare DNS and CDN

No redis or anything like this for caching, HTTP requests are really simple

maxencecornet··on Ask HN: Do you know a regular Twitter user?
I am from France as well, I use Twitter every day

Twitter is the only way I have to get informed and mingle with people interested in solidity/Ethereum development (eg; Defi/makerDao/Kyber protocol...)

The only people I know that use Twitter every day are working within the blockchain dev community

maxencecornet··on Nearly 1 in 5 Millennial Renters Expect to Rent Forever in Some Metros
Gotcha, I am not a heavy spender, save most of my salary, this must be the reason why I don't see renting forever as a problem
maxencecornet··on Nearly 1 in 5 Millennial Renters Expect to Rent Forever in Some Metros
What's so bad about renting forever ?

I am a millennial, I am not planning on buying a house pretty much for ever, I don't see it be a problem
