You know a guy called Donald Trump?

Oh yes, this happened on an episode of the simpsons.
nbajka··on French digital tax may kill VideoLan non-profit
What part of "Paying 0.055 EUR per GB of traffic sent to French residents" is well-intentioned? It's nothing but a nonsensical shakedown.

Also, left-wing governments are generally as corrupted and freedom-infringing as right-wing governments, at least in Europe.

An interesting quirk of how this works: https://devblogs.microsoft.com/oldnewthing/20100506-00/?p=14...

Yes. I’ve been against copyright my entire life.

> Spain's work culture tends to lean towards treating people like humans

You clearly have not worked for the average Spanish employer.

>Also take into account that retired people have paid for their retirement.

No, they have not. It's a pyramid scheme. Whatever they put into the system when they worked probably doesn't even cover 5 years of retirement.

In Spain, half a million more people depend on money they get from the government than work in the private sector: https://theobjective.com/economia/macroeconomia/2024-09-16/a...

They stole your data? Like, they took the text you wrote on the internet and removed it and kept it to themselves?
nbajka··on I went to Mexico to test-drive the cars Americans can’t buy
That’s exactly what I fear may happen in Europe.

I don’t want to give a cent to European manufacturers because of the prices they want to subject us to, but I’m sure Europe will eventually do something about the Chinese allowing poor people to own cars.

Would I want Firefox to include my personal email in the headers of my requests just because the website politely asked for it? No, absolutely no, never. This is bonkers.
nbajka··on StackOverflow now gets fewer than 1000 questions a month
Was it really a community of human communication? I only remember going there for answers, not to make friends. The only person I remember from there was that obnoxious Italian guy who was obsessed with the Chinese government.

You keep using it as normal and if it tells you to copy and paste commands into your terminal you DO NOT do it?

That would be mean.

> You're tacitly siding with whoever actually holds and wields the power.

No, I’m not doing that. I’m not even American. But I know that giving someone a weapon means they can eventually try to use it against you.

nbajka··on Evidence of a spying operation by ICE against left-wing social movements
State resources and armed officers are all part of a political stance. If you don't recognise it it's because they are on your side. But at a moment's notice their allegiance can switch.
nbajka··on I've used WordPress for 20 years, and I've stopped recommending it
I once copied the wordpress files onto a new domain and a few minutes later a bot had already accessed /wp-admin/install.php and it helpfully installed the site for me using a database of their own to get RCE.

There was no proof of lack of consent. But I wasn’t talking about this particular case anyway.
nbajka··on Microsoft offers mass buyouts for roughly a quarter of its workforce
Even then, women hold all the soft power in Spanish-speaking countries. For example, at home, whatever the woman says, that’s what’s done. That’s what a matriarchy is.

Also, convicting people without proof, that’s not something to be proud of. (This also proves they live in a matriarchy)

nbajka··on Microsoft offers mass buyouts for roughly a quarter of its workforce
Which is funny because the entire Spanish-speaking world has always been deeply matriarchal.
nbajka··on Europe's summer heat wave killed more han 50k people in urban areas
I live in the south of Spain and I have first-person experience with this - most of these deaths happened to old people who, despite their really good pensions, would rather die of heat stroke than install and turn on an air conditioner. Some really think they are going to be buried with their money.

You could cut these deaths to basically zero if the government installed the air conditioners and they didn’t have to pay for the electricity. Just to be clear I’m not advocating for this.

nbajka··on We should be more ambitious with the software we build
>Nobody wants to lay off an employee that is pleasant to be around, trustworthy, and good at what they do.

So if I hire a painter who is pleasant to be around, trustworthy, and good at what they do, I'm not going to "lay him off" the instant he's done painting my house?

nbajka··on We should be more ambitious with the software we build
>Burning down the backlog to zero doesn't mean the development team will be subsequently laid off. Quite the contrary. It will create a vacuum that the business will fill with new work

Will it? Are you willing to test this?

>No one is laying off the development team that just chewed through 50 items per day for 3 straight weeks.

If there are no remaining items, or the amount of items processed per day has increased well above the amount of items that need processing every day, someone's certainly getting laid off.

>Who would support all the potential bugs they just created?

We have long criticised management for not caring about this. Now we are supposed to trust their good judgement?
