neeharc··on Take Alcohol to Drink on Your Flight
I'm going to have to try this next time. I'm just surprised that I never heard about something like this till today
neeharc··on [dead]
Let me delete this one. Thanks for pointing that out.
neeharc··on A Personal API
As you suggested, I think this is a great way to expose your data to apps that may be built on top of you.

Also, a stalker would love this :P

neeharc··on Show HN: My seven minute workout timer evening project
This looks awesome. I'm going to start using it from tomorrow. I'd love to see more intervals like 10 min, 15 min, 20 min.
neeharc··on Why you should never ever ever have Managers in your class name
The point that is being made is to make sure that the name of the class makes its responsibilities clear. The problem with the term "manager" or "handler" is that it leaves things ambiguous.
neeharc··on Screw live chat, I'm calling customer service
In today's day and age I think its reasonable. Even when I bought it, I knew I could download it online and use the same license key. That was an option until Adobe released the new CS6. Further, this download is still available to you if you bought the digital download. What I couldn't understand is why they would not provide the same service to a customer who buys via DVD.
neeharc··on Screw live chat, I'm calling customer service
They don't have the trial version of CS 5 on the website. Only CS 6.
neeharc··on Screw live chat, I'm calling customer service
Because I don't see the need to use one, except in the extreme rare case like this one. I find it annoying that they expect me to buy one.
neeharc··on Screw live chat, I'm calling customer service
You should call their customer service. It's just their live chat you should avoid.
neeharc··on How to get awesome graphics within your budget
If you can afford it, then I would recommend spending more on a designer as well. My circumstance puts in me a position in which I can't afford to spend more than $20-$25. I assume that there are more people in such a circumstance. These are tips and tricks where you are trading your time to lower your expense on graphics.

However, I do believe that there are enough people around the world who can communicate easily and can understand what you are trying to do. I have worked with people all over the world and have been very happy with the outcomes.

neeharc··on How to get awesome graphics within your budget
Yeah . That's something we are aware of and plan to fix. We still haven't optimized our site for mobile or tablet .
neeharc··on How to get awesome graphics within your budget
Yup. Feedback plays an important role in iterating over your designs. You want to get a designer who is open to taking feedback. You also want to make sure that they have a strong vision and are not afraid to put their foot down if needed
neeharc··on How to get awesome graphics within your budget
Yeah . I always make sure to get all the assets back from my designers and repurpose them multiple times, sometimes across projects altogether.
neeharc··on Ask HN: How long to learn and build a standard social iPhone app?
To build a client is relatively straight-forward. It should take you between 4 - 8 weeks of development work depending on the number of screens you will be need. You need to add some time for Graphics but you could do this in parallel.

Or you could buy a template and work on top of it which should save you some time http://www.binpress.com/app/social-iphone-app-design-templat... http://www.binpress.com/app/social-share-iphone-app-template...

neeharc··on Does anyone want to play tennis? How our startup was born
There are many flavors of location based social apps. Unlike the other apps, shoutt aims to solve people's everyday problems by connecting people based on what they need. So it puts you first. With respect to the chicken and egg problem, we plan to start city by city.
neeharc··on Does anyone want to play tennis? How our startup was born
The point of Shoutt is to find what you need, not just to connect with people you don't know. Whether a person is a friend or a stranger is secondary. It's just that friends are always more likely to help.
neeharc··on Does anyone want to play tennis? How our startup was born
Unlike Jig, our objective is to connect you to the people around you.

People who share the same location often share a similar set of problems and that's precisely why they are the best people to connect with.

neeharc··on Does anyone want to play tennis? How our startup was born
Thanks for pointing that out. I thought I changed that earlier
neeharc··on Does anyone want to play tennis? How our startup was born
Tennis was an example of why you wanted to reach out to people around you. Expanding on that thought, we believe there is tremendous value is connecting with the people around us. Right from asking question, advice, recommendations and borrowing stuff to finding people who live/work around us and share a similar interest - like jamming or something else.
neeharc··on Does anyone want to play tennis? How our startup was born
Thanks for your feedback. We've thought of these issues before and we are tackling them . Shoutting for help or security is a great use case but one that can be easily abused. We want to make sure we take precautions from people crying wolf too many times.

Update: We just uploaded an introduction video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0LC54QaMf4
neeharc··on Does anyone want to play tennis? How our startup was born
Yes you see every shoutt around you. But we sort the shoutts by popularity. In addition to that, when someone shoutts, we find the people who are most likely to respond and send them a push notification.
neeharc··on Ask HN: How did your startup get its first 1,000 users?
Put up a good landing page about your startup and start promoting it using social media and/or ads.

Try using http://betali.st/. It's a good way to get the first 100 users or more. It's not the first 1000 but its a start.

Kissmetrics had put up a good article on how to go about doing this.

neeharc··on It's all who you know?
Your story reminds me of how I got my first job. I was about to head home and right before the elevator I saw an older gentleman trying to dismantle a stall, the kind you see at job fairs. I stopped and offered help. He took me up on my offer and we exchanged a brief conversation. Then I left. The next day I had a job interview. And guess who was the interviewer. My good friend who I had helped was the VP of recruitment. My interview went well and that's how I ended up out here in California.

Cheers to you mate. Good read.
