neffo··on Amiga Games Released in 2024 Index
Not a studio, this is development like it's the 90s. Though development is easier now with modern tools, but just like the 1990s it's something one person can write.
neffo··on Amiga Games Released in 2024 Index
A few hundred, maybe a thousand sales.

neffo··on ICQ will stop working from June 26
This was the 90s, so I guess reverse engineering the protocols was simple. There were even Amiga clients of it, like stricq.
neffo··on Stop Acting Like You're Famous
TFA: stop acting like you're famous

TFA (later): well, we made it to the front page of HN

neffo··on 'If anything happens, it's not suicide': Boeing whistleblower before death
This still has a chilling effect. If it happened...

...actually it has a chilling effect even if it didn't happen to be honest.

neffo··on Starship's Third Flight Test [video]
You need a second burn just to enter orbit. You burn at the top of the sub-orbital arc (opposite side of the earth) to enter orbit.
neffo··on Citra Nintendo 3DS/DS emulator is gone from GitHub
Yuzu repo has a few archives (mastodon link): https://pounced-on.me/@LMAOYEEN/112039467863754551

Haven't seen anything for Citra yet

the gallery site is amazing in and of itself. the gallery isn't PNGs or GIFs - it's generated in the browser from the emulator state. if you hover over an item it resumes the emulator.

> However the hackers also want to get paid, as soon as they go back on their word no one else will ever pay them.

The hackers are the real victims here

(o ) "Do you want to receive marketing emails from our partners?"

This is absolutely a dark pattern.

neffo··on The 1988 shooting down of Flight 655 as a user interface disaster
Posts aren't limited to an arbitrary length in activity pub, this is the same UI logic for showing a thread in the main feed. Twitter does something similar for bluecheck long posts.

And yet, no fart?
neffo··on BRICS gold-backed currency coming in August
I never mentioned anything about rich or poor. Workers can't work if nobody is hiring. Businesses can't borrow, and anyone who has borrowed faces a falling real asset value with a nominal debt accruing nominal interest. (See 2007 housing market crash for a very narrow example.)
neffo··on BRICS gold-backed currency coming in August
What do you think happens when the profit incentive over any length of time is to neither spend nor invest and simply hold cash? It doesn't end well for that currency or the associated economy.
neffo··on BRICS gold-backed currency coming in August
And a personal investment in gold is in no way equivalent to fixing the exchange value of your currency to it. If you think gold standards prevent manipulation of currencies, well the 1920s would like to have a word with you please.

And deflation is far more destructive than inflation.

neffo··on Was Starship’s Stage Zero a Bad Pad?
I believe it was acknowledged that the lean of the rocket immediately after launch was unintentional possibly due to the damage of the pad, and later (for possibly unrelated reasons) the thrust vectoring failed completely. Given it took more than 30 seconds for the flight termination to take effect there was definitely non-zero risk there for staff or potentially even the observers a half-dozen miles away.
neffo··on ChatGPT: Fear Litany
The way Bing Chat works is by providing a full copy of the GPT response whenever a new token is generated. It gets replaced when it produces something that's a no-no. Put Edge into dev mode and you can see the sequence of JSON responses, but possibly not the word that trips the filter.

I couldn't get it to acknowledge that Queen Elizabeth II had died. Apparently the natural death of a monarch (or probably any head of state) is censored, but that means it couldn't talk about Royal succession at all. (May be fixed now.)

neffo··on Tomb Raider
The first of the rebooted series is more of a gender-swapped Rick Dangerous. (Lots of deaths.)

neffo··on Tomb Raider
The character is mo-capped, you can't really maintain that consistency (which tbh, which I'm not sure existed to begin with) if you want to minimise jank in the character's facial animations.

I wish them luck, but won't hold my breath until this Fokker flies.
neffo··on The damage to lunar orbiting spacecraft caused by the ejecta of lunar landers
Interestingly, a researcher looking for probable impact sites found Apollo 11's ascent module could potentially still be in orbit. (Though, it's probably not.)

neffo··on Tesla cancels Model S and Model X deliveries in Australia and other RHD markets
6 of the 10 top manufacturers of cars in Australia are from Japan. That said I can't imagine Japan doing that, and to be honest it's not uncommon to see LHD cars on Japanese roads (American cars).

Australia doing that would weird, as I think it'd an eight jurisdictions to sign up to it. That said, I can see WA doing it absolutely.
