odiroot··on Introducing Kwi, a new KDE terminal emulator
AFAIK Yakuake uses the Konsole part for the terminal. And it's lacking some of the newer fancy features that more modern terminals (Kitty, Ghostty) support.
odiroot··on Introducing Kwi, a new KDE terminal emulator
Really hope Yakuake would also benefit from this development.
odiroot··on Delta’s Biscoff cookies were supposed to be temporary
Really miss the airline peanuts. Was such a nice treat.
odiroot··on Cyberattack halts construction of tunnel between Denmark and Germany
Put a decoy Fritzbox in front of it. Defense in depth!
odiroot··on Apple HomeView
It's definitely going to be a hit among people locked in the Apple ecosystem.
odiroot··on Iranian campaign planted fake articles in real U.S. publications using ChatGPT
Time to take a look in the mirror. Especially before pointing out biases of others.
odiroot··on Yandex Takes a Second Data Center Hit in 48 Hours
Sounds like Snow Crash becoming slowly a reality.
odiroot··on Kolibri is an open-weight LLM from Aleph Alpha for German and English
And it's always waiting for the verb to arrive.
odiroot··on September 2026: The world today, as seen by one Polish guy
This is generally a great article. I just wish the author would also mention how Poland (among other EU countries) is also hyper focusing on populist policies that benefit the older generations while heavily burdening the younger generations with a cost of these policies. This is even a bigger problem than all these named external dependencies (which may or may not hurt us).
odiroot··on Does Reddit have an astroturfing problem? What the data suggests
And worldnews is still quite tame with it. Other news subs are much harsher in their moderation, especially the EU local ones.
odiroot··on Neal Stephenson responds with wit and humor (2004)
Tastes are interesting. I sprinted through Snow Crash and Cryptonomicon because they were so good. I struggled to get past the first few chapters of Reamde. Didn't engage me at all.
odiroot··on ASML says it sold 'absolutely nothing' in Europe in 2026
Our car industry (among others) showed we're quite capable of shooting ourselves in the foot. No need for external "big events".
odiroot··on It's time for Mark Zuckerberg to resign from Meta
One must imagine Mark happy, living in his metaverse.
odiroot··on Please don't rearrange our shoes when we turn up, paramedics in Japan urge
I always wondered what happens if police forcibly enter someone's flat in these places. Do they ram the doors and then politely take off their shoes before entering? I see a comedy potential.
odiroot··on Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Mythos 5.1
It's a great story teller. Not really a good expert though.
odiroot··on Review: Chuwi's $449 Unibook laptop is a funhouse-mirror MacBook Neo
It's the opposite feeling for me.

Not sure about other brands but pretty much any ThinkPad I use, the touchpad just feels right. Whereas on Macbooks it's just off, at least ever since the first Retina generation (my first contact with it).

Macbooks' touchpads are usually also way too big and, sadly, even Lenovo follows this bad trend in some of their models.

odiroot··on Civic Hygiene – avoid building technologies that could be used by a police state (2013)
Then again, EU citizens would find it questionable how in the UK recruiters are asking about your ethnicity, disability status etc.
odiroot··on Pixel Watch 5
For me, showing the time, calendar notifications and turn-by-turn navigation with Google Maps is all the smartwatch has to offer. Sleep tracking is a good extra. That's it.

Pebble was great at providing that, with crazy good battery life.

odiroot··on Codex in ChatGPT desktop app for Linux is now in preview
AppImage, yawn.
odiroot··on Nvidia's Risky Business
Or at least our public pension systems.
odiroot··on Advancing the price-performance frontier with GPT‑5.6
You just need a very strong frontier model to do triage of your tasks.

odiroot··on Who's afraid of Chinese models?

odiroot··on FAA lets Boeing sign off on 737 MAX, 787 airworthiness certificates again
There's more and better reasons than MAX to avoid Ryanair.

Sadly Polish national airlines (among others) also went hard on 737MAX8 so it's not only the budget ones.

odiroot··on Why skilled workers come to Germany and then leave again
And you believe Germany somehow avoided it? Nice one.

Don't worry, wealthy people manage fine in Germany and multiply their capital.

It's just a glass ceiling on a middle class.

odiroot··on China sentences official to death for taking $325M in bribes
They're not wrong. It's definitely spread throughout EU too.
odiroot··on The Vespa at 80
> Even when I am in pedestrian mode I find myself cursing those smaller electric moped riders who qualify to ride the bike lane

Well yeah but they're another league of recklessness. Especially the food delivery people.

I was talking more about an average bicycle commuter.

odiroot··on The Vespa at 80
TBQH from my experience people in Vienna are quite oblivious to single-track vehicles. No idea why but even cycling here is often scary.
odiroot··on The Vespa at 80
They're noisy, underpowered and way too expensive (also in maintenance). No wonder most of developing world rides Hondas.
odiroot··on The bottleneck might be the air in the room
Can it work with Zigbee network or is Matter/Thread required?
