Something wrong with your computer. My 11 year old XPS13 with touch screen has worked fine in Linux ever since I got it. And same with my Surface Pro 2 running Ubuntu.
Wow if you have blind panic because of a crack in your phone screen, you might have other problems. I can understand being pissed, but holy shit, you just bought it, they'll replace it. It'll be okay. Get your old phone... oh right you just traded it in and rolled it into your new payment plan. The fact that this is normalized in the article says something about our society.
I didn't know how bad TV looked in the 90s. We watched a low res 19 inch TV from across the room. Did moving to HD make any real difference in our lives? Do we really enjoy TV that much more? Once the excitement wears off about 20 minutes into watching it, its still the same thing. If the story is good, you get into it either way and forget what you're watching it on.
The older iMacs that were the same thickness all the way across, they still looked good. Except they were some of the best machines to service. Literally two screws in the bottom, the whole thing split in half, and your hard drive, memory and other components were right there. I worked on tons of them and they were fantastic. It saved people money in the long run when they needed an upgrade because it took less time. Even replacing the screen or logic board in them was a piece of cake.
Yeah except the PT cruiser is actually a good practical design, with a low floor entry height, and comfortable upright seating and pretty good cargo capacity and decent fuel economy. Its certainly more useful than today's crossovers. And was a sales success. They sold tons of them. The thing is, they thought it would appeal to young buyers, but it was mostly older people who flocked to them in droves. The PT Cruiser community also was massive, and their owners loved them. They were also mechanically simple and cheap to repair, being built on the Neon platform. It was a well thought out vehicle, and not just a gimmick. Even if you don't like the retro styling. I give Chrysler props for it.
Except this is an SUV with a sloped roof that loses tons of potential capacity. That said, I have seen toppers on Cybertrucks so if you need the enclosed capacity, you can get it like a regular trick. But the truth is, the Cybertruck and Rivian are not trucks first. They are lifestyle vehicles that can do some truck things.
The bigger the fan the better, IMO. I really love those cheap square box fans... It's hard to beat that deep, low hum that small speakers and small fans just can't replicate.
This is neat. I ended up having to buy one of those dummy HDMI dongles to keep my MacBook awake so that I could remote into it. If it thinks there's an external monitor attached, it won't sleep. Or at least you can set it up that way.
I put my list on the mirror in the bathroom, right in front of my face, to try to build a morning routine. I got sick of forgetting to brush my teeth, or put on deodorant, etc. That list sat on my mirror for 2 years, and every morning I would forget to use it. Fuck I hate it.
I had 3 therapists I went through. After the first few meetings where they tell you you have ADHD, they all eventually stopped being helpful. Mostly I needed them to tell me what I needed to do to to build good habits or what I can do to work around my ADHD... and all they wanted to do was listen to me talk and provide no helpful information. None of them told me about the side effects of the medication, how I should use it, or anything. Now I have no therapist, and I'm not really any worse off. The medication helped me way more. But that's just my experience.
Fuck this is so true. My first therapist I tried immediately told me she'd be annoyed if I missed appointments or was late. Half my goddamn problem was forgetting appointments and not being organized enough to use a calendar consistently. Decided fuck this, and took me a long time to try and find another one.
I think you're 100% correct. The only value that Facebook adds over a website is allowing people to write low quality comments for likes on every post. If people want to give feedback, they can write an e-mail, send a letter, or gasp go to a town hall meeting in person. That requires effort though, and so most Facebookers won't bother, which would be great. Writing snarky, uneducated comments is not engaging. Facebook is not needed AT ALL.
I live on a narrow-ish rural road with no fog line on the shoulder, and drove a 2024 Outback. It definitely did this constantly. It was fixed in the 2025 model (no idea if it got backported to the older cars), and does it less, but still does it.
It's terrible to drive a Subaru with all their safety shit. Turn on the adaptive cruise, and change lanes when approaching a slower car? The Subaru will slam on the brakes thinking you're going to hit the car, even though you're totally clear of it. Really safe to slam on the brakes when merging into a faster lane.
Also, it locks onto cars taking the offramp... and as they slow down, you'll be in an empty right lane going 45mph. I've driven a 2024, and a 2025, and the 2025 has way less false alarms, but it still drives me crazy.
Oh yeah, and my favorite thing about adaptive cruise, is how you come to a stop in traffic, and the cruise control just turns off, but only after you're stopped for more than 15 seconds of so. Then it beeps at you telling you the car in front of you is moving. Thanks dickhead, how about you just accelerate and follow the car then like you would do if you only stopped for 5 seconds?
And not to mention, with the steering on, and my hands on the wheel, it bitches at me to put my hands on the wheel. MY HANDS ARE ON THE WHEEL. The only way to get it to realize your hands are on the wheel is to turn the damn steering wheel just a tiny bit, and let it fight back against you the whole time.
Honestly, the fact that they are talking about this being a production car is what kills the cool. If they just said they were showcasing some cool technology that they could do, then I think it would at least be honest and people wouldn't shit on it so much. But with how many times they said the new Roadster would be on the market, can you really blame anybody for not believing it?
Remember concept cars? Companies have been doing gimmickey shit forever and nobody expected those things to make it to production.
Those of us who used Macs in the late PPC and early Intel days know what Apple is capable of. This current trend where your only fix is to reboot/reformat/reset preferences, or suffer, is trash. People these days are just used to everything being trash, so Apples current software quality seems OK to them.
Or maybe they could leave it alone, and take the developers working on this and have them fix all the glaring issues in the OS and all of their shit online services. With all the vibe coded apps coming out, I think we can find alternatives to MS Paint easily enough.
God WinME was such hot garbage. Windows 2000 Workstation ran everything that ME ran. I fucking gamed on it, and did everything. It was faster and more stable, than ME. I never understood why people I knew who were computer nerds ran that steaming pile of shit.
Yes because when you are struggling to take care of yourself, piling on vet bills and food and more responsibility, and less social time will really help.
You are not wrong about the laws, but people are working in factories doing 12 hour days 7 days a week. Yes they get overtime, but that's because you can't even afford to live with a roommate in run down company dorms on a standard 5 day work week. Its still slave labor over there. This amount of work nets workers about $1000USD per month, and this is in foreign owned factories which are much more regulated than the locally owned ones.
Are there any monitors that have a resolution somewhere between 1440 and 4k? I want more pixels than 1440p, but don't necessarily want to go to 4k and have to scale everything... I've tried looking and there doesn't seem to be much if anything.
This won't stop guys from lifting their trucks and blinding you anyways. The trucks are lifted after they are purchased. This also won't stop the swath of blinding cheap junk LED light bulbs from being sold on Amazon. This also won't force dealerships to aim the damn headlights properly after they take delivery of their cars from the factory. The police could already be enforcing existing headlight regulations and reduce a huge amount of this, but they don't. We could reduce a huge number of blinding lights without making new laws or regulations. It's already illegal to blind oncoming traffic with your headlights.
Are there any stories you have heard which things have improved notably for the citizens since data centers were put in place? I see a lot of negative articles, but have yet to see where a city has used the revenue to say build a hospital, increase transit, or build something for the citizens, or just improve existing services. This could be a result of my feed being biased, so I'm genuinely curious to hear some stories about the good that these datacenters bring to local areas.
