The low-fidelity look of heavily filtered Instagram-photos that was trendy in the 2010s.
p0ppe··on When was '2 weeks ago' and did it come before or after '2 weeks ago'?
No need to do it in the backend and worry about caching. Just output iso-dates and have them converted in the frontend.
p0ppe··on The EU’s fight for user-replaceable smartphone batteries
Nope. 3G is being shut down in Finland as we speak. Should be finished by early 2024.

p0ppe··on Coq mulls new name for programming language
Telling people you like LaTeX might also get you some funny looks.
p0ppe··on The security content of iOS 10.3.3
But that should be up to the users to decide. I'll be much happier to use up 137 MB for a critical security update than 354 MB for the latest Facebook app update (version 132.0).
p0ppe··on The security content of iOS 10.3.3
I'm still perplexed that Apple doesn't offer over the air updates, especially for security updates. 137 MB shouldn't be that big a deal on a normal 4G connection.
p0ppe··on Babylon.js 3.0
Got it running in Safari with no problems. Impressive considering I tried it on a mid 2011 MBA.

p0ppe··on Show HN: Whosfiring
Should this be considered Fucked Company 2.0, nine years after the original site closed?

Edit: The original name was apparently also a pun (Fast Company).

p0ppe··on When Nintendo got rid of the headphone jack
Bluetooth Capable Headphone Sales Surpass Non-Bluetooth Sales (in dollars, not in units) - https://www.npd.com/wps/portal/npd/us/news/press-releases/20...
p0ppe··on Tesla offered $325M for Salton Sea startup
Serbia is an independent country currently negotiating an EU-memebership. In order to get to Serbia, Russia would have to go through at least one EU-contry or Turkey.
p0ppe··on Open Whisper Systems Partners with Google on End-To-end Encryption for Allo
Why didn't Google just develop this in house? It almost feels like they're admitting to having no credibility on privacy without an external partner.
p0ppe··on Phuc Dat Bich Is Beyond Tired of Getting Kicked Off Facebook
19 407 people named Gun in Sweden and more than 1 000 in Finland.
p0ppe··on Google Cloud Shell
> Use of the Cloud Shell is free through the end of 2015: you will not be charged for any resource utilization.

Would be nice if they could have stated how much it's going to cost later on. We're less than three months from 2016.

p0ppe··on Earn a Master of Information and Data Science Online
You don't seem to be getting a Berkeley degree; "datascience@berkeley’s technology service provider works with a different university to offer an online data science program that is unaffiliated with the University of California." (3rd page of the form). I wonder what that university would be.
p0ppe··on 20 Freescale Employees were Confirmed Missing on Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370
Isn't it pretty standard for groups to be traveling together? I'm fairly certain you'd find some kind of larger group on pretty much all flights. In this case it happened to be 20 passengers working for Freescale.
p0ppe··on Ask HN: Which computer/laptop do you use?
Macbook Air 13" (2011). All the power I need and small enough to carry everywhere.

p0ppe··on Lobsters
I would appreciate one too.
p0ppe··on Introducing non-technical people to LaTeX
The not so Short Introduction to LaTeX2e (http://tobi.oetiker.ch/lshort/lshort.pdf) has been my go-to source for a long time. Works both as a manual and for reference.
p0ppe··on Is it OK to steal “Downton Abbey”?
You would probably need a credit card tied to a us-based address as well.
p0ppe··on Tweeting about where to find pirated sheet music will lead to DMCA-takedown
The tweet in question; "Pasek and Paul's sheet music is $105 on their site...but it's free on http://piratebay.com > haha."
