pie420··on EU signs $11B deal for sovereign satellite constellation to rival Starlink
what are you talking about? this is happening all the time in the US with Spacex+USGOV, Boeing+USGOV, etc.
pie420··on EU signs $11B deal for sovereign satellite constellation to rival Starlink
I don't see anything wrong here. here's what could also happen, but has not:

> EU does thing the US hasn't

HN: OH SHIT USA NEEDS TO HURRY UP AND DO THING TOO

EU just needs to stop being behind technologically.

pie420··on We all took the DVD boom era for granted
shot-for-shot recreations are a waste of time. a robot or algorithm could copy. we watch adaptations to see a new perspective on an old tale. if you want a copy, just read the original.
pie420··on We all took the DVD boom era for granted
The retelling of a story can never damage the integrity of the original, and it is very foolish of you to even suggest that it could. The original is always the original, and is unimpacted by anything that comes after...

This is as silly as suggesting that Tolkien's work somehow tarnishes or damages nordic/germanic mythology. utterly ridiculous.

pie420··on What we know about CEO shooting suspect
Usually illegal, not always wrong.
pie420··on What we know about CEO shooting suspect
Why? I'm not in a gang or a mob, so i am safe from their silly little squabbles. I don't care how many gang members kill each other. I also don't care how many people die in DRC civil wars, because I am not in the DRC. I don't care about people dying on other planets and in different galaxies.
pie420··on U.S. math scores drop on major international test
18th out of 50 is not excellent for a HEGEMON country that essentially rules europe, south america, and half of asia. I imagine Britain was better than 18th out of 50 during the height of the british empire.
pie420··on Kagi Teams
product made by monopoly company worth $2T is better than small startups with less than 30 employees. shocker. the reason people are supporting Kagi is because we see the trend with google quality and we want alternatives, even if they are currently worse. it's called activist consumerism. it's why we supported AMD when they were at the brink of bankruptcy, and now look at their CPUs and look at intel.
pie420··on Why America's economy is soaring ahead of its rivals
You're describing hypochondria
pie420··on ChatGPT Pro
ah yes, you must work at the company where you get paid per line of code. There's no way productivity is measured this accurately and you are rewarded directly in any job unless you are self-employed and get paid per website or something
pie420··on ChatGPT Pro
nothing chatgpt says is with maximum confidence. the EULA and terms of use are riddled with "no guarantee of accuracy" and "use at own risk"
pie420··on Stephen King to shut down his 3 radio stations in Maine
An institution of culture. something the new money tech elite dont seem to understand. modern society is desperately missing the concept of noblesse oblige
pie420··on Restaurant Menu Tricks (2020)
You must be a super-taster. Some percentage of the population is super sensitive to taste, and think everything is overseasoned. You must be one of those people. Other people need 2-3x the flavor to match what you taste.
pie420··on Intel announces retirement of Pat Gelsinger
AMD had Lisa Su, who does intel have?
pie420··on Facebook's Little Red Book
i'm sure there's lots of tech optimists in absolute numbers, but my personal experience in the bay area has been that a vast majority of my friends in tech and tech adjacent have become highly pessimistic of the current tech landscape, AI, VR, etc.
pie420··on Why are doctors wary of wearables?
the answer, as always, is hypochondria. i used to be a hypochondriac and it is crazy how much more im seeing my peers have hypochondria
pie420··on Google Plummets Nearly 6% as DOJ Targets Chrome, Android in Monopoly Crackdown

pie420··on To Cope with Extreme Heat, Paris Will Swap Parking Spaces for Trees
It was shocking to see China last month. Every city I visited (Shanghai, Suzhou, Changshu) had tons of trees recently planted everywhere, and it made the cities amazing to be in. Besides being clean, trees everywhere made the cities feel green and cozier than they had any right to feel. Western countries need to plant as many trees as possible in big cities, it's such an easy way to make cities cooler, quieter, cozier, and obviously nicer and greener.
pie420··on Bhutan, after prioritizing happiness, now faces an existential crisis
let he who hasn't engaged in some ethnic cleansing cast the first stone
pie420··on AMD now has more compute on the top 500 than Nvidia
layperson with no industry knowledge, but it seems like nvidia's CUDA moat will fall in the next 2-5 years. It seems impossible to sustain those margins without competition coming in and getting a decent slice of the pie
pie420··on Francois Chollet is leaving Google
Every company I've seen that has tried Holacracy abandoned it shortly after.
pie420··on Wonder is acquiring Grubhub
no, we don't. if we're not mindless little drones we stopped shopping there a long time ago, don't lump us in with yourself
pie420··on The death and life of prediction markets at Google
one of the craziest comments i've read on HN. google does a lot of internet things these days, idk if you've been out of the loop for a while
pie420··on Starship Flight 5: Launch and booster catch [video]
no, he says retarded and cringe things on twitter, which is embarrassing for such a titan of industry.
pie420··on Google Play killed my game and won't tell me why
"Why is it so hard to scam people on this platform????"
pie420··on Google Play killed my game and won't tell me why
what does it matter if F-Droid has 0.001% of the reach and audience of Google Play Store
pie420··on $2 H100s: How the GPU Rental Bubble Burst
in industrial manufacturing, recovering waste heat is a very common junior engineer task, usually a great first year project from recent grads to do a simple, $50-100k project that has a 1-2 year payback period.

Surely someone in the trillion dollar datacenter industry can figure out a way to take waste heat and use it in a profitable way, right?

pie420··on South Korean Author Han Kang Wins Nobel Prize
name a more prestigious/better guide (marketing tool) for restaurants?
pie420··on South Korean Author Han Kang Wins Nobel Prize
what did obama do that was considered nobel bait? he had no idea they were about to give it to him. And really, him getting the nobel is probably more for signifying the end of racism since america finally elected a black president, but we all know how that turned out.
pie420··on Germans decry influence of English as 'idiot's apostrophe' gets approval
