Question - What are good ways to deal with dead zones?
And what is a 'pragmatic scientist'? Someone who doesn't take interest in the reasons things are as they are, but only operatively that they are as they are?
The tool's been put together with the WHO:
She basically said, there's a massive backlog and underfunding of the service, and instead of her referring me to the adult ADHD and autism psychology services directly I should approach a more generic NHS Adult Mental Health service and try to get them to refer me for a diagnosis, or write a letter asking her to. Just seems like a bit of a ringmarole.
She also said that the NHS wouldn't recognise a private diagnosis as they have a financial incentive to lean towards positive diagnoses, and so the NHS wouldn't foot the bill for eg any ADHD meds that would ensue from it.
Is this the experience other people have had, especially in the UK?
Tried Okular?
> A better email app. Currently none can be said to work very well. I'm actually considering mutt at this point
Switching to Mu4e was the best thing I ever did to my emails. If someone doesn't know/doesn't want to pick up Emacs then I'd recommend Mutt all the way.
Whilst we're on the topic, lets also add that non-white men and women and transgendered people have it even worse.
Also, care to name one thinker from history who doesn't advocate discrimination of some sort? Seriously. Who is your model?

Problem: We have invested loads of money into our Irish, Indian, Australian/NZ offices, but we could increase our pool of workers from those countries. Solution: Make a website which specifically encourages kids from those countries to start their journey into CS and tech.
What is the problem?
This is exactly the problem. You've assumed that 'nerds' -- people who are skilled and passionate about tech things -- are male. It's that kind of assumption which enforces a massive mental barrier for women to be able to consider themselves legitimately passionate and skilled about tech, and also for men to recognise them as such too.
Until the association of nerds with masculinity is broken up, boys and men will dominate tech at the expense of others. And until that that point, programs like Google's which foster different ('minoritean') associations with being passionate and skilled with tech will be needed.
In regards to targeting young women, they're making an effort to redress the obvious gender imbalances and male dominance of the tech world. Why is that a problem?
Since moving to GNU/Linux I could really do with a hand maintaining the Windows and OSX branches. Anyone interested?
Also - anyone have contacts at Microsoft or Apple who might be able to help get a Yiddish keyboard map installed per default in their OSs?
Well I'm certainly not a conservative.
I think the second point is true. An at-will contract (or lack thereof) is essentially skewed towards the free will of the employer in a way that is massively to the detriment, as these cuts prove, to that of the employee.
At will might be the employment norm in America, but assuming a sizeable number of Nokia's workers are actually Finnish where they have far stronger employment laws, I would wonder whether this is all even legal.
18,000 people will have their jobs slashed just like that without any resistance?
Instead they're just meant to leave with a smile on their face knowing that it's in the supposed benefit of their former employer?
I'm sure Nadella finds the decision to send 18,000 people to the job market much more 'difficult' than they'll find it out there.
