pravka··on GitHub responds to Dear GitHub letter
Absolutely. This feature is such an integral part of a repo that distributes releases that I'm surprised it hasn't gotten more attention from Github. I, for one, would love to see them provide the checksum for the archives that are published via Releases -- it's not currently available when you create a release and relies on the operator to implement a workaround that creates a digest and publishes it on an external endpoint.
pravka··on How Do You Beat iPhone?
Not even Force Touch is a good example; Android has had getPressure() API since v1.
pravka··on Can't sign in to Google calendar on my Samsung refrigerator
I thought this standard always existed.
pravka··on Lists
Next time you go grocery shopping, use Pinterest for your list . We'll see how long you stick by this statement. :)
pravka··on American parenting is killing the American marriage (2014)
This is extreme. I read this article when it made the rounds last year, and I hated it just as much this time around. Disclaimer: I'm a parent, and I love it. I also love being in a relationship with someone I trust and with whom I can talk about 'grown-up' shit.

Granted, there are definitely parents who hover, worry, or interfere with their kids', but, at least in the circles I run in, these are the exception more than the rule and most certainly don't represent parents (or marriages) at large.

pravka··on The road from atheism
Indeed, creativity is the inevitable conclusion I come to when I read diatribes like this. I could expend countless hours wondering, plotting, and diagramming any number of potential (non-scientific) explanations for life as we know it, as well as our eventual, mutual destination.

These explanations would also be creative; the primary reason I don't do this is because I have far more interesting and important things with which I choose to concern myself.

pravka··on OS X 10.11 El Capitan: Review
I remember using Linux on a laptop; <sarcasm>everything worked so well without any tweaking whatsoever.</sarcasm>
pravka··on Ask HN: First time working remote, what do I need to know?
I've spent the last two years working remotely. Everything that's been said here is great. I'd especially +1 the comments advising to keep up a daily routine (shower, get dressed, etc); there were days I forgot to brush my teeth because it was so easy to sit down, start coding...8 hours later and you get it.

Also, make sure you deduct the working space. Whether its in your own residence or pay for something like a co-working space, it's tax-deductible.

pravka··on Amazon Web Services in Plain English
Heroku's free tier is alive and well: https://www.heroku.com/pricing
pravka··on Bay Area Living in Shipping Containers
Exactly. I'm in the middle of a cross-country relocation because we decided that the bay area is just too damn expensive for its own good. Since I telecommute exclusively anyway, the move was a no-brainer once we sold ourselves on the idea of leaving the area.
pravka··on The Evolution of Profanity
Empathize? Perhaps. But in Carlin's defense, the point he's making doesn't require empathy; it demands attention and consideration.
pravka··on Show HN: Bocker – Docker implemented in 100 lines of bash
>The only reason that that is not obvious is that Docker is piggybacking on the relatively excellent and well-developed package management of distributions like Debian and Fedora.

s/well-developed/widely-used

Just because a package manager has a broad user base does not make it excellent nor well-developed. pacman[1] user base is far smaller, but (IMHO) it's a much more refined package manager than apt or rpm.

pravka··on Ask HN: Every time I register a new domain, I get spammed
Use Google Domains -- their WHOIS privacy is free.
pravka··on How to avoid the software salary ceiling
The latter certainly describes the impression I got from the references to his employment at Google.
pravka··on Google Says More Searches Now on Mobile Than on Desktop
No, he (like most of us) types `f` and the browser autocompletes.

No Campbell. Guess I'm too sticks for Google Fiber. :\
pravka··on Should App.net Accept Bitcoin?
If you did the same thing for Dogecoin, I can almost guarantee that it would be committed within a day.
pravka··on How Netflix Reverse Engineered Hollywood
That would be a good start on a site that doesn't require authentication. :)
pravka··on Dogecoin Paper Wallet

pravka··on Show HN: QR Codify, The Most Useful Snippet I've Ever Written
jailbreak + nitrous. problem solved. :)
pravka··on Show HN: The TV API - Free Comprehensive TV API and Episode Guide
Separating functionality between the two doesn't really make sense to me -- consider it akin to an actor's filmography on IMDb, which lists pretty much everything that they've had a role in.

I, for one, would find it fairly useful.

pravka··on Show HN: The TV API - Free Comprehensive TV API and Episode Guide
Nice work, really like this. Question, though -- any particular reason you're not serving the list of actors in an array?
pravka··on AWS OpsWorks - Flexible Application Management in the Cloud Using Chef
I've used t1.micros extensively with chef -- it's not as bad as you might think.
